The Space

Come experience the charm of the Old South at The Farmhouse. This destination has been in the same family since 1956, and has undergone many additions and changes through the years, but has always been a place in which one will find peace and quiet, security, and now, a community of other fascinating and enthusiastic travelers.

The Farmhouse is in older neighborhood of Memphis, on a residential, mid-city, semi-busy street. The property is within walking distance of a library, a bus stop, the Greenline biking/walking trail, varied restaurants, and a shopping center. It is about 8 miles from downtown Memphis.

You will find the accommodations at The Farmhouse will fit just about anyone's needs and budget.
All 5 spaces at the Farmhouse are private, and all guests have access to the public areas in the main house
The property includes:

THE FARMHOUSE COTTAGE- a separate building behind the main house, which provides complete privacy and includes a standard bed, full private bath, kitchenette, and wifi connection.

THE FARMHOUSE FUTON BUNK- a private room with a queen bed, a single bed and shared bath.

THE FARMHOUSE SUN ROOM TWIN- a room with two twin beds, and shared bath.

THE FARMHOUSE BLUE ROOM is a sunny room on the west side of the second floor with a queen bed. It includes a deck in the treetops, full bath, full kitchen, washer/dryer, and wifi connection.

You will feel like you are in the country when you enjoy the back garden, the front porch or the upper deck. When I am able, I love to visit with guests, with coffee in the morning and/or a cocktail in the evening.

My house is located two blocks from a bus stop that goes straight to Downtown Memphis. Also, a library, a shopping center, a post office. and various restaurants are within walking distance.

Please leave the inside front door open, do not push it closed as it is tricky to open even if it is unlocked

Other Things to Note

During the Winter months, the Cottage can be difficult to keep warm because it is made of concrete. Many others have stayed comfortably, but if you are cold natured, you may want to consider the Blue Room on the second floor.

Also, please do not flush anything down the toilets that doesn't either come from your body or the toilet paper roll...My house has old plumbing. That's why public restrooms have those signs everywhere.

  • This cottage was just what we needed for a night -- simple, clean accommodations with convenient parking, fluffy towels, and coffee in the cupboard. We jogged a few laps around the block (Tutwiler to Graham, to Summer, and back up on Isabelle) for our morning workout, which made a good start to our day. Thanks, Patty!

  • I chose to stay in Patty's Farmhouse Cottage and found it just fine for my needs one night while on the way to Chattanooga and also for two nights on the return trip. In addition, I had some very enjoyable conversations with Patty who is one of the most laid-back, easy-going people I've met. I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

  • Patty's response time was great within minutes of me making a last minute request. Cottage room was simple and cozy and perfect for the night in between traveling. Overall very good experience.

  • The Farmhouse Cottage is AWESOME! Inside is very clean and tidy, had all the basics anyone would need for a weekend getaway. Comfy bed, plenty of privacy if you want it!

Oh yeah, Patty is awesome! We visited on our last day over delicious coffee and pleasant conversation. She is very knowledgeable about her city, wish I asked before we explored!

No doubt about it, I'll be coming back again.

  • Had a wonderful time staying in the cottage!! Everything was beautifully prepared when we arrived, Patty was sweet, and her property is lovely. She was very communicative & accommodating. This was my first airbnb experience & now I can't wait to seek out more!

  • We rolled into the Farmhouse Cottage for a long weekend in Memphis, and were nothing short of impressed! The cottage is quaint and cozy, well heated, and well furnished. It's settled nicely back behind the house and the girlfriend and I enjoyed the quiet, secure surroundings behind the Farmhouse. The neighborhood was a short, quick drive from a thoroughfare leading straight to both the Downtown and Midtown districts.

Patty was a wonderful, engaging host who seemed to truly enjoy having people share her property with her. We will certainly visit the Cottage again next time we're in Memphis!

  • Patty's house felt safe and secure, as it sits on the back of her leafy green, spacious property. Parking was ample. It was also very thoughtful of Patty to turn on the heat before we arrived, making the cottage cozy. Nice spot to serve as our two day home base.

A couple of things could have made the stay just a bit better. [1] The kitchenette lacked glasses or cups of any kind, and only a couple of paper plates and plastic utensils. While it was nice to have the microwave, coffee maker, and fridge, a few real cups/glasses and dining supplies would make the kitchenette actually useful. [2] A closer eye to cleaning up after the previous tenants would have been welcome. I found a used vaginal suppository medicine packet right near the bedside table. It was yucky having to pick it up.

  • Patty was fantastic -- extremely flexible and accommodating to our slightly crazy schedule. The cottage is simple but pleasant, my only complaint might be that we found the shower very difficult to use; dialing in a setting between freezing and boiling took us each quite a bit of time. All things considered, this is a very minor complaint about a great experience.

  • Patty is such a great host!!! She was very accomomading. Her place was in the perfect location for all we wanted to do. We booked the cottage but ended up saying in the upstairs apartment. The deck was so nice to sit out on and sip some wine. Thanks Patty :)

Hello!..I am a life-long Memphian, and mother of a wonderful daughter, and a fabulous son who grew up and left me with an empty nest.. : ( When I learned about Airbnb, I posted my accommodations immediately, and my life has been blooming ever since. It's a little intimidating at the very beginning, but I knew it would just take time to get used to it... and I was right. Now, I look forward to every new guest. Some guests like to relax around the house, and some are out and about most of their time here, but everybody is interesting. I can't believe how lovely it has been to be able to host young people who remind me of my children. My mothering instincts just come out. In addition, I make new friendships with folks closer to my age and get to do stuff together. Stuff like dining out, sharing my favorite places with others, and sitting with coffee/wine/beer on the front porch, or enjoying a fire in the back garden. My guests have taught me so much about where they come from, and many internationals seem to know more about my country than I do. I'm learning a lot. Airbnb is great... spread the word! As much as I would like to give discounts, I assure you that we are all on a similar budget, and this is how I make my living, a conservative one. Please keep that in mind when you are looking for a deal... I believe my rates are very reasonable. In the same vein, my rates are based on the number of people, for the most part, and most rooms accommodate two people. I charge an extra $10 for a third person. Always message me on the Airbnb site, rather than sending me an email. It's easier to keep up with what's going on when all the correspondence is in one place... thanks.
