Come experience the charm of the Old South at The Farmhouse. This destination has been in the same family since 1956, and has undergone many additions and changes through the years, but has always been a place in which one will find peace and quiet, security, and now, a community of other fascinating and enthusiastic travelers…. Oh, and great coffee!
The Farmhouse is in older neighborhood of Memphis, on a residential, mid-city, semi-busy street. The property is within walking distance of a library, a bus stop, many varied restaurants, and a shopping center. It is about 8 miles from downtown Memphis.
You will find the accommodations at The Farmhouse will fit just about anyone's needs and budget.
The property includes:
THE FARMHOUSE COTTAGE- a separate building behind the main house, which provides complete privacy and includes a standard bed, full private bath, kitchenette, and wifi connection.
THE FARMHOUSE FUTON BUNK- a private room on the first floor, with shared bath, kitchen, and public areas, with lots of room to move around in and enjoy the company of other guests.
THE FARMHOUSE SUN ROOM TWIN- a private room with two twin beds. Guests will share a bath and have access to the downstairs, and the upstairs, unless it is rented out as a whole.
THE FARMHOUSE BLUE ROOM is a sunny room on the west side of the second floor with a queen bed. It includes a deck in the treetops, full bath, full kitchen, washer/dryer, and wifi connection.
You will feel like you are in the country when you enjoy the back garden, the front porch or the upper deck. When I am able, I love to visit with guests, with coffee in the morning and/or a cocktail in the evening.
My house is located two blocks from a bus stop that goes straight to Downtown Memphis. Also, a library, a shopping center, a post office. and various restaurants are within walking distance.
Please leave the inside front door open, do not push it closed as it is tricky to open even if it is unlocked
During the Winter months, the Cottage can be difficult to keep warm because it is made of concrete. Many others have stayed comfortably, but if you are cold natured, you may want to consider the Blue Room on the second floor.
Patty was fantastic -- extremely flexible and accommodating to our slightly crazy schedule. The cottage is simple but pleasant, my only complaint might be that we found the shower very difficult to use; dialing in a setting between freezing and boiling took us each quite a bit of time. All things considered, this is a very minor complaint about a great experience.
Patty is such a great host!!! She was very accomomading. Her place was in the perfect location for all we wanted to do. We booked the cottage but ended up saying in the upstairs apartment. The deck was so nice to sit out on and sip some wine. Thanks Patty :)
We had a wonderful time staying with Patty in Memphis. We arrived late at night because of bad weather (freezing rain with icy roads) and she had the cottage ready with the heaters on for us and we were lucky enough to be able to stay an extra night with her. In the morning we enjoyed visiting with Patty over pancakes and coffee. She is very welcoming and made us feel at home. Her house is also only 15-20 min away from Graceland, the Pink Palace Museum and Beuler Street.
My friend and I stayed in the cottage for 3 nights. It was very pleasant and comfortable. Patty was a sweet hostess and we enjoyed having coffee with her one morning and sharing wine one evening.
Her place was 10 minutes away from my conference and near the botanical gardens and Dixon Museum. We had a great trip.
Nous ne sommes restés qu'une seule nuit dans le logement individuel. Agréable, silencieux et commode. À recommander !
We had a wonderful stay in the cottage behind the house. It was an unusually cold evening in Memphis, but we opened the door into a warm cozy little space preheated by our thoughtful host. Patty herself was just as warm, opening up her main house and kitchen for our use.
I had had reservations in the past, being a gay couple, of the type of reception we may get in the south. At Patty's home those fears were completely unwarranted. The farmhouse is a bastion of creativity, openness to individuality, and good ol southern hospitality. They treat you right!
The location worked well for us as it was a 15 minute drive to Beale street and sun studio, 10 minute drive to the best comic book store in the south, to whole foods (yes!), to soul fish restaurant, and 25 to Graceland. So yes it would be more difficult if you were car-less, so then it'd probably be better if you stayed downtown.
Overall I believe we had a most wonderful stay in Memphis because we had stayed with Patty.
We had a great stay in the Farmhouse Cottage in Memphis. Even though we didn't get to meet Patty until we were on our way out, she made sure we had everything we needed and that the Cottage was warm enough (because it was a very cold couple of days in Memphis). The space heaters warm up the room well. There isn't a stove in the kitchenette, but this wasn't an issue for us.
Patty was wonderfully welcoming and accommodating. We had initially booked to stay in the Cottage, but she contacted us before we arrived to forewarn us of the unusually cold weather in Memphis and to offer us a warmer room inside. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in her big house. Private and charming, a perfect airbnb experience!
Wonderful home, wonderful host. Patty could not have made my stay (business trip) more comfortable. I had engaging company when I needed it and privacy when working. I stayed in the cottage which was a snug little oasis but the house is unbelievable - homey yet eclectic and filled with fascinating art. Will be back!
Patty is an awesome host! The farmhouse is a fantastic deal and great if you desire your own space. Easy to find and close to grocery stores and several restaurants. I would highly recommend staying here if you are in Memphis.
