A secluded and private stand-alone shack, nestled on the bluff, overlooking Duxbury reef. No street address, and reached only by walking a path along the bluff, this little hideout offers up a most romantic stay, rustic, yet with luxurious details.
Secluded, rustic and private cottage, at Agate Beach area of Bolinas. Oceanfront deck, and outdoor shower in a little nook below, looking to the sea.
Cottage is brick-floored, two leveled- with the bathroom attached to cottage, a few steps away from main entrance. Deck entrance level has a sitting area, with a couch/daybed that can be converted to a cushy and comfortable extra single bed, if needed; and a dining area, with antique wooden table and chairs.
Though without a "true" kitchen (no stove), cottage has a small fridge, microwave, toaster, electric water kettle, several types of coffee makers, and is stocked with kitchen basics, gourmet coffee & teas, etc. Also a BBQ for guests to use. Perfect for a long weekend stay.
Upper area, with full sea view, has an antique queen -size sleigh bed, with luxurious linens, down duvets.
Hibiscus, jasmine and bouganvilla grow indoors, in planters. Honeysuckle entwines its way from the tree outside, blooming around the canopied bed. General aesthetic is Caribbean Bungalow.
A beautiful wood stove fireplace keeps the place cozy, warm and romantic. There are also a couple of small radiant oil burning heaters that work well, and can move around, should guests not need/want the fire. There is also an electric blanket on the bed, so you can stay cozy.
I should add that the place gets quite warm in the day, even with a bit of sun -it's like a greenhouse that way- only late at night or early morning it can be chilly. The cottage does rent year-round, and guests have always been comfortable.
Outdoors is a deck, large lawn, gardens, and private path to Agate beach. Absolute privacy, seclusion, and sublime oceanfront setting. Yet cottage is only minutes from downtown Bolinas, with shops, restaurant, museum/gallery, organic grocery, and beautiful hiking trails right outside your door.
Perfect for writers and romantics, this little pirate shack sits on one of the most glorious and romantic spots, in the Gulf of the Farallones. Take walks in fresh ocean air, fall asleep to the sounds of the sea. Feel a million miles away from it all.
Weekend (Friday-Sunday) stays require a two night minimum booking.
Other Things to Note
PLEASE READ!! FINDING THE PIRATE SHACK:
There is no street address; the shack sits on the bluff, above Agate Beach/Duxbury reef, up a private path, just off the Agate Beach parking lot. SO, to get here, go to Agate Beach Parking lot ( at bottom of Elm Road, in Bolinas). Park at the 'far' end of the lot. Take the path just off to the right. See a "No Beach Access' sign, then come to a fence/barricade. Walk around , up flagstone path (not far) and you'll come to the cottage.
Other helpful info- For restaurant /eating:
Downtown Bolinas has the Coast Cafe (our only restaurant!), closed on Mondays. There is also the Bolinas Market, with a deli, and the People's Store, organic grocery, both close early- 7PM and 6:30, respectively...good to know if you need provisions!
Nearby Stinson Beach (five miles from Bolinas, along the lagoon) has more dining options- I like the Parkside Cafe and the Sand Dollar. Venturing to Pt. Reyes, up highway One, there are many restaurants, -it's nice to get gourmet goodies from Cowgirl Creamery for a picnic or bring back to the cottage to enjoy.
Other ideas: Continuing up highway One, for hiking and beach jaunts, past the town of Pt. Reyes, it's also nice to sit overlooking Tomales Bay and enjoy fresh oysters, (bring a nice bottle of wine), from any of the little spots you'll drive right by, along the road, like Tamales Bay Oyster Co. or Hog Island, in Marshall, or the best, Drake's Bay Oyster Co.
This is a non-smoking place..Guests can smoke outside.
Please be mindful of noise level/music, etc. that carries to neighbors' homes.
The cottage is a quiet, retreat-like spot.
Cottage is not suitable for large groups or parties, (3 people max), since our septic system (like many out here in the area) simply cannot handle a lot of (website hidden): Pets. Always welcome, but it's appreciated if you bring a dog bed or blanket for your pet to sleep on, since there is a white couch (well, used to be white!) that's difficult to keep clean.
Guests MUST clean up after their dogs, and please double check to not leave any ..little 'presents' from your dog behind (or dog's behind!) on the lawn or area around (website hidden): The BBQ and woodstove/fireplace: .. Guests may need to bring along some coals /lighter fluid and extra kindling /wood (though I try to keep these replenished..but just in case!)
The woodstove is best suited for heating the cottage and should not be used for cooking.
The Pirate Shack is an oasis! It was late when we arrived and the lights were on for us with the fireplace ready to be lit. The bed was like a cloud with soft comforters and warm heating blankets (such an awesome touch!). Everything was beautifully decorated and clean. The double chaise lounger facing the ocean view was amazing! Anna was a great host, she answered many of my questions before our arrival and kindly arranged a later checkout for us. It was an awesome birthday celebration and would recommend the Pirate shack to anyone in need of serenity.
Anna's place is just magical! We couldn't have imagined a better place to stay for our escape from the busy city. So romantic and peaceful! I can't wait to come back.
The Pirate Shack is an incredible getaway. The place has so much character and charm. The ocean views are spectacular, and the cottage and yard have beautiful flowers and shrubbery. We loved spending the weekend here and are already planning our next trip back!
Staying at the Pirate Shack was the most fantastic start to our holiday in California! Such a romantic and wonderfully secluded place. Thank you Ana! We really hope to come back some day soon.
Beautiful, peaceful, mesmerizing...one could go on describing an experience at the Pirate Shack. There's nothing like waking up to the sound of waves, sipping tea on the lovely deck, taking a walk to nearby Agate Beach to watch the sunset, or cozying up next to the log fireplace. This place has it all! And an outdoor shower if you're feeling adventurous ;-)
Wonderful place. The wood-burning stove was a nice touch. Also being able to see the stars at night and being mesmerized by the waves
The pirate shack was an incredible stay and we really felt at home when spending the weekend here. The property is perfectly described and easy to get to. It was truly an incredible weekend.
