Pets, horses welcome.

The space

Enjoy your comfortable stay in Rathcam, a 19th Century traditional farmhouse located in the idyllic lake county of Westmeath. Surrounded by maturing oak, beech and other broadleaved forestry, with a long tree-lined avenue, it makes the ideal place to get away from it all and unwind. Peace in the Heart of Ireland!

In this Bed and Breakfast, set on an Organic working farm, expect to be greeted by a friendly, hospitable host and her family, many animals including dogs, cats, horses, sheep and even a donkey! Here one can experience life on the farm, with free range and organic breakfast in the conservatory, weather permitting, and comfortable eclectic rooms.

We can cater for most dietary requirements including Gluten free, sugar free and vegetarian/ vegan, as my daughter is a soon to be qualified Nutritional Therapist and we all live by a healthy ethos. Evening meals and packed lunches can normally be arranged at an extra cost with a minimum of a day's notice.

Enjoy farm walks and indoor and outdoor games. Stables available for horses and dogs.

Between N4 and N6, Rathcam is 6 miles from Mullingar with its art centre, many shops, pubs, music and bowling. Riding, golf, fishing and Uisneach, the mystical centre of Ireland, are all within 15km.

We have a variety of rooms available, single/family/double. All rooms include breakfast and the advertised rate is per person. We welcome you at all times of the year, warming you in the cold weather with electric blankets and log fires. There is however a surcharge for heating in the winter.

Guest access

Guests can rent bicycles, play pingpong, feed the hens, watch DVDs, walk in the woods and fields or just sit and read in the garden, WIFI available

Interaction with guests

This is a shared house between guests, volunteers and family and someone is usually around to answer questions

Other things to note

As there are pets here Rathcam is not suitable for guests with allergies to animals.

Great place to stay and great conversation. Not at all Diana's fault, but AirBnB sends you to the wrong place if you use (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps. Her directions are correct though. I wish I had more time to spend on the farm and hear more about her experiences.

Diana's house and farm are an absolute delight. Days later we are still talking about her simple easy going and honest approach to life. We were made so welcome it made our hearts glow. The breakfast with fresh fruit from the garden free range eggs home made jam and vegan friendly fare would be hard to top. Charging our hybrid car was no problem.

Diana and her entire family made our stay a wonderful experience and lovely end to the 2 week trip round Ireland . The bedroom is comfortable , large and light . The location , surrounded by grazing sheep , green meadows , dogs and cats and peaceful woodland is idyllic ! It was a real treat to relax round the mansion like home , browse amongst the books , sit and chat in Diana's amazing kitchen and enjoy the shade in the courtyard during the 3 hot days we were there . Lovely , lovely , lovely ! Many thanks to you all for your welcome .... Highly recommended by Verena and Mick .

Staying at Diana's was a wonderful experience. She is full of life and generosity, as is her home. The house has loads of personality, and the sunroom she serves breakfast in was unbeatable with gorgeous roses blooming right by the table. You can't see the house from the road and must gain entrance through a gate at the end of the driveway, so be sure to coordinate your arrival with her. Oh, and don't leave without feeding her donkey Leo a carrot - there is a little bucket of them for him by the front door. It was a joy to meet Diana and her spacious, wonderfully eclectic home. Thanks for a lovely visit Diana! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend it!

Diana was a wonderful host who made us feel most welcome and added to our great weekend. She really did go out of her way to make things a lot easier for us. Everything was as described and it really was perfect for our needs for the weekend. It is a beautiful and peaceful setting and we were blessed with the weather. Would highly recommend to anyone who is looking to stay in a relaxed environment slightly off the beaten track.
