Enjoy your comfortable stay in Rathcam, a 19th Century traditional farmhouse located in the idyllic lake county of Westmeath. Surrounded by maturing oak, beech and other broadleaved forestry, with a long tree-lined avenue, it makes the ideal place to get away from it all and unwind. Peace in the Heart of Ireland!
In this Bed and Breakfast, set on an Organic working farm, expect to be greeted by a friendly, hospitable host and her family, many animals including dogs, cats, horses, sheep and even a donkey! Here one can experience life on the farm, with free range and organic breakfast in the conservatory, weather permitting, and comfortable eclectic rooms.
We can cater for most dietary requirements including Gluten free, sugar free and vegetarian/ vegan, as my daughter is a soon to be qualified Nutritional Therapist and we all live by a healthy ethos. Evening meals and packed lunches can normally be arranged at an extra cost with a minimum of a day's notice.

Between N4 and N6, Rathcam is 6 miles from Mullingar with its art centre, many shops, pubs, music and bowling. Riding, golf, fishing and Uisneach, the mystical centre of Ireland, are all within 15km.
We have a variety of rooms available, single/family/double. All rooms include breakfast and the advertised rate is per person. We welcome you at all times of the year, warming you in the cold weather with electric blankets and log fires. There is however a surcharge for heating in the winter.
Guests can rent bicycles, play pingpong, feed the hens, watch DVDs, walk in the woods and fields or just sit and read in the garden, WIFI available
Interaction with Guests
This is a shared house between guests, volunteers and family and someone is usually around to answer questions
This is a peaceful secure neighbourhood and Mullingar provides for all needs whilst being small enough to easily find one's way.
The lakes, Royal canal and hills provide excellent walking and fishing.
The nearest bus stop is 3kms away in MILTOWNPASS on the Dublin-Galway bus route and I can meet you there.
Other Things to Note
As there are pets here Rathcam is not suitable for guests with allergies to animals.
I should like 24 hours advance booking, no smoking in the house but the conservatory is a possibility.
You are welcome to walk on the farm but all gates must be closed and animals not disturbed.
Diana gave us a wonderful welcome and changed her plans to meet us after there had been a slight mix up with arrangements. The breakfast was plentiful, delicious and catered for an unusual diet. After breakfast we went for a lovely walk around the farm. Her house and grounds are an idyll, a working farm with mature trees and a walled garden. We had some lovely chats with Diana and her hospitality was exemplary. Thank you.
Such a wonderful experience, the farm and house are beautiful, and Diana is the most delightful host! She went above and beyond to help me out. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting her and staying in her lovely home. It is well worth the trip off the main road to stay on this peaceful farm.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the lodging and hospitality given to us at Rathcam by Diana and her family. We were looking for a tranquil, rustic experience on an organic farm in the Irish countryside and we certainly found it at Rathcam. The accommodations included breakfasts outside in the gardens and the use of bicycles for a countryside ride. We loved those experiences very much as they really allowed us to experience the uniqueness of Rathcam and its surroundings. As an agricultural extension agent in the USA, I was particularly pleased to learn about their organic husbandry and marketing of Jacob sheep. We walked their well managed pastures which I hope the farm always keeps all of them intact because they are essential to the viability of their sheep enterprises, as well as create the special ambience that is Rathcam. We recommend Rathcam wholeheartedly to everyone ...
Diana'a Tranquil Farm was just what it said in her description. Quite the most beautiful and idyllic place to stay. The house is magnificent, full of character and charm with comfy beds, beautiful lace pillowcases fresh flowers and water jugs with pretty little fabric covers.
It was a real treat to stay at a working farm surrounded by rolling fields of sheep and horses we could see from all the rooms which made for fabulous views. Wonderful fields with large old shady trees, bearing witness to the generations that have gone before.
There was a walled back yard of chickens and geese with a star character called Ryan Gosling whom Diana had hand reared because his mummy left him. Diana has the sweetest dogs and cats that complete the setting.
What made our stay so special was that Diana's family farm supports itself through a variety of organic practices on the surrounding 90 acres providing quite a rural experience for her guests. Everything we ate was from the farm and its gardens. All delicious and flavoursome as only organic, homegrown fruits and vegetables can be.
We had a magnificent dinner in the beautiful conservatory, all draped inside with luscious vines and made cosy with beds of edible flowers. Breakfast was quite an adventure in Diana's stunning and huge walled garden where we sat under an apple tree, surrounded by growing fruits and vegetables and ate from pretty blue and white china. The fresh fruit from the garden was delicious and picked only moments before eating which was an experience in delight for the taste buds.
The house is friendly with a history of loving care and restoration. Decorated with paintings and pictures of Diana's parents and family. The bathrooms are recently modernised in the most tasteful way to provide access to fabulous baths and great showers. There is a large sitting room with big comfortable sofas and interesting books on every table. The dining room has a magnificent large, polished table for formal dining. The kitchen is huge and the perfect country house kitchen complete with feline and canine members of the family.
Diana and her family made us very welcome and we felt very at home with them. When we are next in Ireland, we will be coming back to share some more of their delicious food, great company and amazing setting.
If you are looking for a quiet place in the countryside, not far from Dublin, and you love animals, nature and good company, Rathcam is definitely your place! I stayed one weekend there with my boyfriend. We had never been in County Westmeath and we wanted to spend our first weekend of June outside of the city. We found our little paradise in Diana's beautiful farm. We had a very warm welcome. Diana and her family are wonderful people. We learnt how an organic farm works, we had the chance to meet some friendly animals that are also part of the family and we shared a barbecue all together in the house. What a great moment!
Breakfast was delicious: good coffee, handmade raspberry jam and bread...all you need to start your journey with energy!
The farm is very close to Belvedere gardens where we spent a whole afternoon walking next to the lake and in the forest. There are also numerous paths around the farm and it's 10 minutes drive from Mullingar for shopping and dining.
I strongly recommend that place!
Diane's Organic Farm is beautifully situated and close to Mullingar. I very much enjoyed the peace and tranquillity. I could take a stroll over the farm(close the gates!) and saw her beautiful cattle, sheep, ducks and hens. The bedroom, as the whole house was spacious and breakfast very good. Diane is a very kind and generous host and made me feel welcome. It was a special stay, I can recommend.
Diana and her family welcomed us right into their lives on the farm. We were able to walk around, enjoy the fresh air and the animals. The evening was a bit rainy and cold, but we snuggled right up to the fire---and then went up to electric blankets on the beds. This is ideal if you want to experience "real life in Ireland" in the setting of a charming farmhouse. Diana was very attentive to our needs, including dietary restrictions of wheat and dairy. Breakfast was delicious!
We had a little trouble finding the farm, but Diana was available to help lead us from the city of Mullingar. She is also finishing up a nice sign for the outer gate. :-)
