The Space

My Cottage is situated in the heart of the Sea Port Village of Kinvara, located in the glorious surrounds of Galway Bay, with the sea just a 2 minute stroll from the front door the majestic West Coast of Ireland stretches out in either direction with the Cliffs of Moher a 40 min drive through one of the most spectacular scenic routes in Ireland.
The Burren, a truly unique landscape, part of which has been designated as Burren National Park, is practically on my doorstep, ideal for those who love to ramble, hill walk, rock-climbing or indeed caving! While the village and surrounds has a variety of activities going on including Boat Trips, Fishing, Horse riding, Kayaking & lest I forget, many local pubs where there is always a traditional Irish music session !There are also Guided tours of the Burren, Hiking routes, Yoga retreats & Painting courses.
Heading north you have the region of Connemara less than an hour’s drive into another spectacular region of Ireland, or take in a wander around Galway City where you will be amazed at the delights that "The City of The Tribes" has to offer!
This small Sea Port Village is home to the renowned Festivals "Fleadh Na gCuach ("the cuckoo festival") an Irish music festival at the start of May and the Cruinniú Na mBád ("gathering of the boats") in mid August" And a third, The Turkey Fleadh!!! This is being launched this year, Dec 28th to 30th, featuring great music, Craic agas Ceol!

Food wise, the village of Kinvara caters to all tastes and indeed pockets where food is concerned with Cafes, restaurants, coffee shops & many of the pubs catering for the hungry travelers, you won't be disappointed! There are also two very good supermarkets & a health food shop for supplies should you prefer to self (email hidden)d for those who would like to dine like Medieval Royalty there are Traditional Banquets during the high season held in Dunguire Castle which is a 5 min stroll from the Cottage.........
Kinvara has an excellent bus service from Galway City & equally regular service to Ballyvaughan, Lisdoonvarna, Doolin, the Cliffs of Moher & Lahinch. (Bus Eireann # 50 & # 423)
So, a car is not totally essential for your visit…
Doolin Ferries operate a service to the Aran Islands.

  • The neighborhood is just as described, close to the water in up-beat area. Blaithin was the perfect host, easy and comfortable to spend time with, respectful and responsive to our needs and very helpful with travel ideas and guidance. The room and home were delightful and artistically decorated. Homemade scones were the perfect final touch! Little dog Ella also a delight.

  • Blaithin showed us wonderful Irish hospitality. We felt very comfortable and enjoyed our stay. It was a bonus to see her artistic creations The little village of Kinvarra on Galway Bay is a great place to stay if you prefer to be out of the city. There are great pubs and restaurants and it is a good base for visiting iconic sights like the Cliffs of Moher.

  • Blaithin was a wonderful host, warm, welcoming, and a treasure trove of information about the surrounding area! I stayed for two nights, but whishes it could have been more. Kinvara is a gorgeous village, thankfully without spaces for coach parking, so it isn't as overrun with tourists as some of the other villages in this area. Blaitihn's house is stunning, and the room was delightful, with some very thoughtful touches for a weary traveller. I would love to return!

  • We only stayed one night, but we were warmly welcomed nevertheless. Blaithin gave us helpful advice regarding where to eat out in the village of Kinvarra, and what to visit in the Burren

  • What can we say! An amazing woman! An amazing place! An amazing dog! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Jackdaw Cottage and would gladly have spent much more time there. From the moment we made first contact, and to the time we reluctantly departed, Blaithin was an exceptional host. Nothing was too much trouble and she knows very well how to cater for gluten free. She has the kindest and most caring of spirits making us feel totally at home in her beautiful home. We enjoyed immensely being able to share with Blaithin (and Ella the cute dog) breakfasts, a dinner and a car trip to a nearby beach overlooking Galway. A stay in the village of Kinvara at Jackdaw cottage is a special experience. Thank you so much Blaithin! (P.S. thanks also for introducing us to the radio station lyric fm!)

Ceramic Artist
I enjoy being busy Designing & Creating Ceramic Art works, along with doing other crafts, sewing/stitch work, crochet, knitting, painting, drawing, mixed media, etc, which as an Artist I am passionate about. I love the process of making also the tactile qualities of working with clay and of the handmade ceramic object. I love meeting likeminded people to interact with and perhaps to be inspired by or indeed to inspire......... Being by the sea is important to me as I find it both invigorating and inspiring, I love to go kayaking and walking on the nearby beaches, collecting shells, driftwood, seaglass and other found objects for use in my artwork.....I am never without my camera, taking shots of this and that and everything in-between !...... I also have a passion for cooking/baking and love entertaining friends and family around the table, enjoying great company while sharing great food and a little wine! Although not fluent in French I do love to practice speaking it when I have the opportunity...........
