**** VIDEO of Our Place, a MUST see *****
airbnb will not let me post a link to the video, but if you go to YouTube and type " Our Vacation Rental La Fortuna Costa Rica" it should come up.
This is NOT an apartment, nor a condo in a complex, a villa etc, it is a private, kick-ass house next to the Arenal Volcano, and I'm so excited to make my home (the Mountain House) yours for as many days as you'd like, so when you're there, it's yours so to speak. You are renting the house while you're down here... I nor anyone else do not live on the premises. However, I can be reached if you need anything while staying there, but for the most part you're on your own.
The Mountain House is atop a big hill per se, it got its name when my friends would call and ask if I was at my apartment in La Fortuna or at my house on the mountain, hence, the Mountain House. Like I mentioned, we are NOT a B&B, a condo or an apartment, this is a very cute, 2-steps above a cabin, house, at the base (seriously... the very base) of the Arenal Volcano. Let's just JUMP to why it's GREAT. It's only 9 minutes (2 minutes on a bumpy dirt road) from the center of town in La Fortuna, but private and secluded, yet 5 minutes (1.9km) from one of the larges stocked grocery stores in the area. Go figure.
You want birds, we GOT them - hummingbirds, toucans, Montezuma Oropendolas, Honey Creepers and many, MANY, many more. Trust me, your camera will be working OVERTIME. You want a Volcano view, you could pretty much reach out and touch it. Want a river... a real river, untamed, ready to explore... walk for 3 minutes away from the house towards the National Park property line and you're there, off the beaten path, ready, no guide required. You want monkeys? The Howler monkeys can frequently be heard passing just 100 yards away. If you're lucky you'll get to see them climb from tree to tree as they lounge around eating and enjoying the day.
Did I mention the birds... maybe you'll need 2 cameras. I am constantly landscaping so there are a LOT of plants, trees and flowers for you to enjoy. You'll LOVE eating out on the porch as the beauty that IS Costa Rica moves around you. I feed the hummingbirds and they'll be enjoying their breakfast as you enjoy yours- fun to watch - SO TERRITORIAL. And at night when the sky is dark and there's nothing to see but black. You can see the hundreds of fireflies roaming around in the distance.
They say, 'words don't describe the BEST of things', we made a video,,, check it out, it will have you convinced. ******************************************* =)
There is internet, being tethered from a smart phone. It is on a Pay-As-You-Go plan. There will be $10 added to the account which should be plenty of minutes to check emails or social networking sites. However, it will be slow and eat up a lot of minutes if you watch video or high bandwidth sites.
just watch the video........ and then you'll understand why I live here and moreover, want to share it with YOU.
* there is a small storage room off limits to guest.
Interaction with Guests
other than checking you in there wont be much interaction.
The house is located in a typical Tico neighborhood. It is the last house in it's section of the neighborhood, and is about 150 yards to the nearest house.
There is no public transportation near the house. You will need to rent a car or hire a driver. I can help you with either one.
you brake or damage it... you buy it.
D'Angelo is very nice, responding to emails even though I had tons of questions. The house is awesome, and if you like birds you are in for a treat. Would recommend this place!
This house is one of the best Vacation rentals my family and I have had the pleasure of staying at. It has great views of the Volcano and overall layout feels very airy, open to nature. From the inside the house is very cozy, clean and well equipped. However, the best part is Angelo provided us with papaya’s and nectar to feed the birds and there were always a variety of humming birds, Toucans and other birds to watch while you sip a beverage of choice or read a book. Angelo was a courteous host and also hooked up with Eric a local tourist operator who we booked all out trips with.
One thing to note (which Angelo had informed us about) is that we needed a rental car (a 4-wheel recommended for some unpaved roads) to get back and forth from town and the house.
Sidenote: Well worth renting a car when in Costa Rica. I did the first part of my journey to Drake Bay with costaricadrivers and then rented an SUV. Roads are safe and in good condition so having a car made it very beneficial in Arenal and Tamarindo
I would definitely rent this house again because its comfortable, yet away from the main city but just a hope away from all the restaurants, stores and tourist attractions
The pictures do not do this location justice. The house was pristine and well organized. D'angelo was extremely nice and helpful and easy to get in touch with. The house is close to the city center but is set back in the forest, quiet and serene. We woke up to hummingbirds and toucans right outside. Would 100% stay here again. We were sad to leave.
D'Angelo was a great host, gave us some tips about the area and even booked an activity in the area. The place was just as advertised and was very comfortable.
This was my second experience with Airbnb, and first time using it outside the country. I cannot say enough positive things about my experience; modern convenience without compromising location and scenery, but you should WATCH THE YOUTUBE VIDEO, it shows/explains everything. My friends and I had a truly fantastic time and will be returning in the future!
D'Angelo was great from start to finish, with quick responses to questions and even helped coordinate some fantastic activities such as visiting the Baldi Hot Springs, and Sky Trek zip line. If you are planning a trip to this area these are also not to be missed! They are among some of our best highlights of our entire trip.
The house itself is beautiful, extremely well maintained with spectacular Arenal Volcano views and a gorgeous yard, beautiful plants and a TON of birds and butterflies. We spent much of our time on the big porch (where there is also a great hot tub!). We also enjoyed the full kitchen to prepare some of our meals with groceries from a store about five minutes away.
This property is also extremely convenient to La Fortuna and many activities in the area. Walking around this quant little town, while grabbing a cocktail or browsing through the shops was wonderful and less than ten minutes away! There is also wireless internet, local cell phone available and satellite TV in case you want to relax at the house.
Perhaps one of the greatest aspects of this experience, was when our initial travel plans got interrupted at the last minute due to lost luggage and missed connecting flights, D'Angelo not only allowed us to come to the house a day early with 12 hours notice, but helped arrange a driver to pick us up from San Jose (whose name is Mario and is also highly recommended) a 2.5 hour drive!
We had an absoluely fantastic time and will definitely be returning to La Fortuna, hopefully to this house again.
The cabin in La Fortuna was amazing and D'Angelo was a great host. I stayed in the cabin with my two kids (7 and 10) and they loved it. The bird watching was constant entertainment while we were there. We never worried about security, it's tucked back at the end of a dirt road and we felt perfectly safe leaving windows and doors open at night. There is no AC, but this didn't bother us since we were out exploring during the warmer parts of the day. Night time temperatures in June were very comfortable.
We really enjoyed the Arenal area and didn't stay long enough to explore all of the different adventures. I already want to go back!
D'Angelo provided a wi-fi hotspot and a mobile phone which was very helpful. He was also very understanding about us being an hour late to our initial meeting. We were new to Costa Rica and didn't realize how easy it is to get lost while going from city to city.
I would definitely stay here again.
D'Angelo was a great host, we loved his place so much we decided to cancel our reservations at a resort and stay 2 more nights at his cute little house. The birding was great: red legged honeycreeper, several hummers including the white necked Jacobin, toucans, guans, parrots n more. The location is excellent, only 9 min from La Fortuna and yet quiet countryside w howler monkey alarm clocks. The kitchen is well supplied for cooking n coffee making. The porch is nice; 2 bathrooms is a plus. We plan to stay there next year for sure.
My names D'Angelo. I've lived in Costa Rica for 8 years and love every moment of it. I work in the travel industry and get to visit a lot of places around the country. From my travels I've seen what tourist and hotel owners expect while traveling, and have put together this lovely home as a result.
