**** VIDEO of Our Place, a MUST see *****
airbnb will not let me post a link to the video, but if you go to YouTube and type " Our Vacation Rental La Fortuna Costa Rica" it should come up.
This is NOT an apartment, nor a condo in a complex, a villa etc, it is a private, kick-ass house next to the Arenal Volcano, and I'm so excited to make my home (the Mountain House) yours for as many days as you'd like, so when you're there, it's yours so to speak. You are renting the house while you're down here... I nor anyone else do not live on the premises. However, I can be reached if you need anything while staying there, but for the most part you're on your own.
The Mountain House is atop a big hill per se, it got its name when my friends would call and ask if I was at my apartment in La Fortuna or at my house on the mountain, hence, the Mountain House. Like I mentioned, we are NOT a B&B, a condo or an apartment, this is a very cute, 2-steps above a cabin, house, at the base (seriously... the very base) of the Arenal Volcano. Let's just JUMP to why it's GREAT. It's only 9 minutes (2 minutes on a bumpy dirt road) from the center of town in La Fortuna, but private and secluded, yet 5 minutes (1.9km) from one of the larges stocked grocery stores in the area. Go figure.
You want birds, we GOT them - hummingbirds, toucans, Montezuma Oropendolas, Honey Creepers and many, MANY, many more. Trust me, your camera will be working OVERTIME. You want a Volcano view, you could pretty much reach out and touch it. Want a river... a real river, untamed, ready to explore... walk for 3 minutes away from the house towards the National Park property line and you're there, off the beaten path, ready, no guide required. You want monkeys? The Howler monkeys can frequently be heard passing just 100 yards away. If you're lucky you'll get to see them climb from tree to tree as they lounge around eating and enjoying the day.
Did I mention the birds... maybe you'll need 2 cameras. I am constantly landscaping so there are a LOT of plants, trees and flowers for you to enjoy. You'll LOVE eating out on the porch as the beauty that IS Costa Rica moves around you. I feed the hummingbirds and they'll be enjoying their breakfast as you enjoy yours- fun to watch - SO TERRITORIAL. And at night when the sky is dark and there's nothing to see but black. You can see the hundreds of fireflies roaming around in the distance.
They say, 'words don't describe the BEST of things', we made a video,,, check it out, it will have you convinced. ******************************************* =)
There is internet, being tethered from a smart phone. It is on a Pay-As-You-Go plan. There will be $10 added to the account which should be plenty of minutes to check emails or social networking sites. However, it will be slow and eat up a lot of minutes if you watch video or high bandwidth sites.
just watch the video........ and then you'll understand why I live here and moreover, want to share it with YOU.
* there is a small storage room off limits to guest.
Interaction with Guests
other than checking you in there wont be much interaction.
The house is located in a typical Tico neighborhood. It is the last house in it's section of the neighborhood, and is about 150 yards to the nearest house.
There is no public transportation near the house. You will need to rent a car or hire a driver. I can help you with either one.
you brake or damage it... you buy it.
D'Angleo's place was the first place we stayed in Costa Rica and could possibly be our favourite. We sat out on the porch each night and couldnt help but stare at the Arenal volcano in awe and each morning on the porch we hung out with the hummingbirds. Such a cool experience. On top of that, the house was very comfortable. Thank you so much D'Angelo!!
D'Angelo was a fantastic host. His recommendations for attractions and restaurants were great. The rental was well kept and comfortable. We really enjoyed watching the birds eat the fruit from the back porch.
D'Angelo's House is always great - we had a restful, easy time there once again (we stayed there a year ago). It is well located, close to Fortuna yet secluded and quiet. The road going in was rough, but short enough to not be a deterrent. I love the birds there, the quiet, the comfort. And now there is the cool heated toilet seat in both bathrooms! What a nice addition! Plus a bidet in the one bathroom.
Absolutely fabulous house in a wonderful location with an amazing view. Close to town but feels miles away. Simple, but with all the amenities. The deck and yard are amazing, with lots of bird life. Hiking and other activities very close by. Perfect choice for our family. The beds are a bit small (for a tall person like me) but the couch is a good bailout option.
My wife and I stayed here for two nights as part of our honeymoon and had a wonderful time. There is a nice amount of seclusion being at the end of a bumpy dirt road, but neighboring homes aren’t very far away. The porch is an amazing place to sit and relax with constant coming and going of hummingbirds, toucans, and other various birds. The landscaping is beautiful and the view of the Arenal volcano is unbeatable (although it was shrouded in clouds most of the time we were there). D’Angelo met us in town and took us to the house, he was very patient and kind as our schedule had a couple unexpected changes. The house is located close to the primary grocery store in Fortuna and just a short drive from many of the various outdoor activities including La Fortuna waterfall, hot springs, and canopy tours. The house was clean and had a well-stocked kitchen that made preparing meals easy. We did not use the hot tub while we were there but the Japanese toilet seats were a unique experience. We would certainly stay in the house again if we had the trip to do over again.
My husband and I stayed at D'Angelo's lovely home for 3 nights during our week long trip. The house is off the main road and offers a getaway close to the town of LA fortuna. Very private and comfortable, we woke to bird sounds every morning. We are interested in birds and the garden did not disappoint, bringing a variety of species to the property (hummingbirds, tanagers, hawks, etc).
D'Angelo was a great host, he met us in town and we followed in our car to the house, which could have been hard to find without a guide or GPS, and showed us around and answered our questions. He left a phone with satellite internet connection and to use for local calls.
I would definitely recommend staying here if you're looking for a gorgeous view of the Arenal volcano, beautiful gardens and comfortable lodgings!
About the Host, D'Angelo
My names D'Angelo. I've lived in Costa Rica for 8 years and love every moment of it. I work in the travel industry and get to visit a lot of places around the country. From my travels I've seen what tourist and hotel owners expect while traveling, and have put together this lovely home as a result.
