Via Frangipane is a small and quite street in the ancient Rione Monti few metres far from Colosseo. The apartment is at third and last floor (without a lift) of a 17th century building. Because of the height and many windows, the apartment is full of light and very quiet. The inside has been fully renewed, keeping the original wooden beam ceiling. It is composed by a main living/bedroom where the original sofabed has been transformed into a real double bed by adding a regular mattress, wooden table and fire place and by a small low ceiling wardrobe room. The apartment has a small bathroom with shower and a small kitchen.
New extra heater for the winter has been added.
The apartment is situated in a famous Monti district which is full of charm and is considered one of the most authentic places in Rome. It has great traditional restaurants and is famous for its authentic shops. It is loved by locals.
The apartment is very well connected to public transportation. Metro stop Colosseum and Cavour is just 3 minutes walk away.
Portable 3G WIFI (you can take it out of the apartment and have a wifi spot around the city).
Towels and bedlinen provided.
No smoking allowed inside the apartment.
Everything is charming at Jane's place and you will feel like in a Little cozy coccon. The flat is extremely well equiped, everything you could need is there. The place is perfectly clean and the perfect size for a couple. You can see the colisseum from the street and it is Walking distance to the historical Center.
We stayed 3 days and were very sad to leave, We would definitely recommend this place!
We just came home from a lovely visit in Rome. The apartment was really nice and it is located in the best and most cozy part of Rome.
Rione Monti is a really nice and beautiful part of Rome with many small design shops, nice restaurants and bars.
We would definitely recommend Jane's place to friends and of course to you guys!!
4 days in Rome : a great pleasure !
We have been very welcomed by Jane and her friend. She was really responsive and helpfull when we needed it.
This apartment is very well located in a very quiet street although it is close to a main road and the Coliseum. We all visited on foot (we just went to the Vatican in metro but we went back walking). It is exactly like the pictures, charming, but with many elevation changes between rooms and doors very low : beware heads ! A tiny but well equipped kitchen.
Two major weak points:
- Heating: we had to ask an extra heater (which blew electricity ...)
- The bad smell of the bathroom : we had to leave the small window open. Moreover, it does not close ...
Well, a charming apartment but with significant disadvantages in winter ...
What a Roman experience! Wonderful small apartment which was SO well located. Very convenient. Both Jane and Flaviano were strong communicators. Flaviano pointed out and pretty much made our trip plans. Pretty great place. Not good internet, but take it as motivation to experience Rome!
unfortunately our experience was not as perfect as the other comments showed the flat.
Of course there are very good points :
- Very Very well located
- the flat is as nice as the pictures, (pay attention on the doors... very low... both of us have hurt our head 2 times)
- jane's friend who explained us the city, the "must see" points, is very welcoming, despite the fact that we had to wait for him in front of the door during 1 hour
but, there were big issues !
- The flat has a very bad thermic isolation... we had to put the air-conditioning to 27° to reach an acceptable temperature of 18-19° in the flat... (not measured, but feeling... always with a pullover, even during the night)
- the WIFI was not working at all, we were forced to used 3G from Belgium (you can imagine the extra costs)
- As we had read the previous comments about the sofa-bed, we were expecting to spend good nights, but it wasn't the case, very uncomfortable as an old sofa-bed => After 4 nights, we've put the mattress on the floor to sleep better
-last but not least : the smell from the bathroom : odor of dirt water so strong that we had to close the bathroom door all the time to breathe good smelling air... but the result was : A frozen bathroom... very uncomfortable... But as it's a pocket bathroom, it warmth very quickly when the shower is ON
We've contacted Jane, but as she was abroad and as it was Xmass time, no good solution to improve solution was found (she proposed an electric heater, but she explained that the electric system could be unable to manage it...)
to conclude, splendid city, good location for the flat, but definitely not a flat for winter time.... rent it on autumn or spring to avoid low t°.
Last word, it's only a flat for location
I have been in Jane's apartment in November, during a weekend-trip to Rome with my girlfriend.
It has been great: the location is just perfect, the flat is cosy and charming, and Jane has been a great host!
I would recommend this place and go back in case of a future visit to this beautiful city :)
Jane's attic apartment was a good price. When my boyfriend and I arrived (around 10pm) we were met by jane's friend who was very nice and helpful with sightseeing advice however the room had not been cleaned since the last guest. We had to wait about 40 minutes for the cleaner to finish changing the sheets and cleaning the apartment. The room had all living necessities but the internet was not strong enough to check email and even spotty with sending texts. We were pretty disappointed with this. Internet is very useful when traveling to a new city. Overall we we had a good stay at the attic. Location is great.
We had an overall nice experience staying at Janes attic. The location is absolutely fantastic, you could easily walk through the old city and there's a metro stop close by. Don't forget to check out the Colloseum!
Jane was very helpful though email, unfortunately she couldn't welcome us to the apartment, but we were taken care of by a friend!
The apartment is very cute and authentic. Really small, but that has its charm. Also, the shower was surprisingly warm and comfortable!
I'd say it's an ideal apartment for 2 nights or so. We stayed for 4 nights, and it's not really a place you can kick back and relax in after al long day of exploring Rome.
Shame that the wifi doesn't work well (practically doesn't work at all), this would have come in handy on occasion.
We were expecting that the apartment belonged to somebody, we reckon that's the the coolest thing about airbnb (getting the local experience). But it seemed like it's being used for rental purposes only.
