We give a big discount to guests for a 2 & 1/2 hr trip Need at least 2 people or a $100 minimum. We can also take you rock jumping & swimming from the boat for a small fee eg $10. Can include a meal on the boat too.
Around this area you can swim, fish or hike. Bikes & kayaks for guests to use. Awake to bird song. This is a renowned area for native birds. The Fat Pigeon is a wonderful hidden gem in the quite to relax and enjoy the nature around Rotorua. Liz and Mike are warm and very welcoming people who went the extra mile to make our stay a special one. We can highly recommend the boat tour with swimming in hot pools and a BBQ on the lake - simply so much fun! Thanks for everything guys, you are true stars.
Excellent stay. Great value for money. Very nice hosts. We loved the boat ride and hot pool dip.
I loved my stay and Liz and Mike's Fat Pigeon. The area around Lake Tarawera is absolutely stunning! Liz and Mike took us to their nearby community garden for tea and I met a lovely Australian couple during my stay there.
This was our first Airbnb and we couldn't have chosen more welcoming and friendly people. Liz and Mike included us on a boat trip on the lake as well as home made pasta for supper along with lively conversation. We felt more like family than guests. We can't recommend this beautiful retreat highly enough.
Thanks Liz and Mike.

Our stay with Liz and Mike exceeded our expectations! The room and shared spaces were simple and clean, but the "extras" really made the trip for us. As hosts, these two are engaging, welcoming, and ready to answer questions about the area. We used their kayaks for a lovely morning on Lake Tarawera (wear bug spray! Sand flies got to me). We also went out on their pontoon boat for dinner and hot pools exploring across the lake with the hosts and the other guests. What a unique and meaningful evening- Liz is great cook and Mike a knowledgable captain. At first we weren't sure if we wanted to do the boat trip but take my advice- DO IT! It was one of the highlights of our entire trip to New Zealand. Thanks again, Liz and Mike!
The Fat Pigeon is lovely - right across the street from a great little swimming/trout fishing spot on the lake. Liz and Mike made us feel very welcome and we'll definitely be back on our next trip to Tarawera!
Liz was very welcoming when we arrived at Lake Terawera. The Fat Pigeon is in a spectacular location and we had a lovely 2-night stay.

Come and explore the Bay of Plenty. We live locally and enjoy meeting the different guests we have come to stay. We have hosted people for many years; we have travellers on a cultural exchange as well as own & run holiday homes. We travel extensively & just this year we used Airbnb in Europe & loved it. Cant wait to use it again. It also gives us an insight to what travellers need & like.
