  • Our stay with Melissa was great. We came to New Orleans for a wedding at the Pitot House which is a very short walk from this apartment. Melissa was extremely helpful and easygoing, especially accommodating our early arrival and late checkout. The room is exactly as pictured (although there is a different bed, but the bed in there now is perfectly fine). It is nothing fancy, but definitley a safe and comfortable place to rest and leave your belongings while enjoying the great city of New Orleans. Our only complaint was that the room had a bit of a litter box smell. We opened the door and aired out the room and it was not a huge deal. We really appreciated the bottled water and coffee in the room. It was also nice to have a private entrance so we could come and go without worrying about disturbing anyone. The neighborhood is really cute, with cafes and restaurants within walking distance, Melissa provided some good recommendations as well. Make sure you eat lunch at Parkway - great Po-boys and a fun atmosphere. The cab ride from the french quarter was about $10. We even walked it one day which was fun and only took about 45 minutes down Esplanade which was lovely. Just wear comfortable shoes! Overall a very nice stay, nothing fancy, but comfortable, safe, and convenient.

  • Melissa was my first encounter (email hidden).
    Se was delicious and helpful.
    Certainly a very nice person.
The room was comfortable. If you don't have a car, check when the bus comes because it's a rather long walk to French Quarter.
There some nice little restaurants and shops around and the city park for those who want to make exercises

  • The room was great and Melissa (email hidden)om had everything I needed and Melissa was able to give some great advice on how to get around, where to go to dinner and what to steer clear of. I can recommend the local bar Pals and there are a couple of great restaurants on the main street. It is close to downtown and it was less than $10 to get a taxi.

  • Great host! Made me feel welcome in her home. She was very flexible with my arrival time which helped me out a lot. She had a lot of information to share about NOLA. She also updated me on events I might want to check out during my stay. The free coffee made all the difference!

  • Staying with Melissa was great! Her neighborhood is very cute. It is very easy to get to all the must see places by car or public transportation. She recommended the best places to stroll and recommended scenic street car lines. We liked it so much we stayed and extra night, and it was no problem!

  • Melissa could not have (email hidden)! She graciously offered lots of tips for getting around, parking, and the best places to visit before I even arrived. Unfortunately, because I was in town so short and just for Jazz Fest, I wasn't able to make use of many of them, but Melissa was very understanding, available, and sweet. The room is perfect - coffee maker, fridge, private entrance, back yard, lovely shared bathroom. The location is great for accessing the fairgrounds, a 10 minute walk, and very close to great restaurants, the grocery store, and others. Thank you for a wonderful stay Melissa!

  • I couldn't have asked for a better location or host for my New Orleans experience! Would I stay here again or recommend Melissa's home to a friend?....absolutely! Thanks again :)

  • My boyfriend and I stayed for two nights in Melissa's lovely home. Originally we had planned on staying just one night , but after letting her know my boyfriend was very interested in jazz, she told us about a local festival. I loved the private entrance and security (safe neighborhood and several locks). She also offered use of her backyard, including firepit. I thought the decor was very homey, and she gave us a tour of her shotgun style house along with a bit of history about the style. As with other guests, the cat warning is accurate, but if you love them it's not a problem, and Melissa's very good about keeping them from guest areas. Personally, I found them adorable and friendly, not the mean kind. Melissa herself was beyond hospitable and great to talk to.

As far as location, it's a 15 min walk to a streetcar stop. The festival made it difficult to get on one, but a local helped us flag down a bus to the end of Canal, after which it's not far to the French Quarter. There are several bars and dining in walking distance to the room. Overall I think it's a cozy room (email hidden) at a good location.

  • Melissa's house is in a lovely area: we felt very safe and there were (email hidden) around the corner! It was easy to get to the French Quarter by streetcar, which was only about a 15 min walk through midtown.

The room was great and Melissa responded quickly to our Airbnb request. We'd happily stay there again!

  • The place was great, very private and charming, right by a lovely canal in a quiet neighborhood. I only left 3 stars because I spent the whole night having an allergic reaction to the cats and did not sleep. IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO CATS DO NOT STAY HERE. The cats weren't in the room while I was there, but they had definitely sleeping on the pillow itself, so if you're allergic to cats, you won't be able to breathe. In fact, you might die. I thought I was going to. If you're not allergic, it's a great little spot. If you like cats, even better.

I am a single mother of a college student who attends Reed College in Portland OR. In New Orleans, I have a big family consisting of several cats, a sweet girlfriend and many rich friendships. I am close to my father who lives in CA and have 2 brothers out west. I am a reader, writer, knitter, and general crafter. I keep busy as a bookkeeper for some small businesses and also as an energy/lightworker. I have a regular practice of (a little bit of) meditation and yoga. I love to catch the sunrise on Bayou St. John. But I also love live music and may occasionally enjoy a late night on Frenchman Street. The beauty of New Orleans is that I can catch live local music almost any time of the day! I love to converse with people about their spiritual views. I love people and their stories. Natural health and avoiding the AMA is very important to me. I am mostly vegetarian (seafood) and eat generally a simple natural diet.
