About this listing
Rum Jungle has the same wonderful views, though lower on the hillside and settings of all of our cottages. However the name is a clue to the living here in Antigua, if you get what we mean!
There is a small, adequate kitchen and a bathroom as well. The lounge is similar to the rest of our cottages, comfy and cozy, but open and airy in a very tropical fashion and architecture.
Anyone staying in Rum Jungle is always invited up to the Main House to meet the rest of the yachting crew staying here. We encourage all of our guests to mingle and meet each other.
Shops, night clubs, bars are all within a 5 minute walk to the Antigua Yacht Club Marina. The beach is also just down the road as well.
Here at Rum Jungle the name speaks for itself....Safety third!!!!
Looking up from the front gate at Rum Jungle's verandah. This cottage is the closest to the gate and is the most social of all the cottages.
My stay at pineapple house: brilliant!!! Wonderful!!! Paradise!!!
I am so sad that this wonderful time is over. Libby: thanks for all: your love, your laughing, your deeply hospitality.
The first days I stayed in rum jungle. Little paradise. The open windows the cosy bed. And the rainwater shower was so refreshing!!!
Above rum jungle is the main house. If you are interested in a calm stay rum jungle is not perfect because of the gatherings of other guests there (But there are some calmer rooms). But me: I loved rum jungle. You are not alone if you want to (everywhere in pineapple house). some days later Libby asked me to move to hibiscus. Wonderful.on the top of the hill the view was wonderful.the big bed soooo cosy. Thank you Libby!!! That is a little paradise on earth. The whole pineapple house: you come as friends you go as a kind of family. The guys I met at pineapple where all so nice and thats also because of libby and her wonderful stuff. Everytime one hallo one rum punch and lots of smiling:)
During my stay the antigua sailing week took place. Everyday there was a party a lot of sailors and wonderful boats.
All in all: perfect!!!
If you want to stay on antigua then stay at pineapple house! Everything you need is there. The beach 7 minutes per foot. The marina with bars, restaurants, a supermarket, car rental. Everything you can reach in a few minutes.
Libby, I am sorry, we missed to take a picture of Jan in the Red apron:( next time!
I will send you some pictures.
Lots of love. Julez
Amazing hosts, amazing room, amazing location, we loved it all. Libby, Jo, Neil and Rumdog were so welcoming (rum punches helped), and so helpful. The surroundings are beautiful and Hibiscus is comfortable, cosy and private. We were invited to join in the goings on at Pineapple House if we fancied or left to do our own thing when we wanted. Very easygoing and relaxing vibe. If you go to Antigua, stay with Libby at Pineapple House.
Awe...thank you SO much Emilia...I'm here with Neil, and he is looking forward to making you your Rum Punch on your return to Pineapple House in Antigua! Lots and lots of love to you and thank you so much for staying with us at Rum Jungle and Hibiscus...We Really enjoyed your company, and please come again and send our love on to Helen! Cheers....Cricket anyone? xxx
SO incredibly wonderful!!!!!
Libby was an incredible hostess and from minute one made us feel like we were family!! I'm a travel photographer and writer and have fairly high standards, and Libby's congeniality, warmth, and excitement about Antigua was inspirational. Her sens of stle is the perfect Caribbean feel. Rooms and cottages are decorated with the laid-back style of the West-Indies. Chic touches of shells, intricate lanterns and painting from exotic locals make Pineapple House and the additional cottages feel like a romantic set from a beach movie. Rustic romantic elegance, fresh breezes, rum drinks, an amazing staff, and a wonderful house dog make Pineapple and unforgettable experience. We didn't want to leave!!!
(as for the unhappy reviewer below - the only one- I just don't know what to say. Some people just don't appreciate beauty, warmth, and fun!).
Libby knows everyone on Antigua it seems and she is so generous in introducing, making connections, and planning excursions for you. She is the ideal hostess - there when you want company- and magically elsewhere when you want your quiet/private time.
Each cottage and room has it's own unique look and feel. My favorite is Hybiscus. Poised atop the hill, Hybiscus has an unobstructed view (all rooms have this view) of the harbor with twinkling lights and SuperYachts below. Second favorite was Frangiopani, with its romantic Colonial style bed, private balcony, and view.
Every cottage is spectacular and has its own kitchen and bath, and the main house on the property has a social open-air room with a kitchen, a bathroom, and a lounge, People gather there in the evenings for sunset and a rum toast, or linger in the warmth of the late afternoon. Often visitors prepare shared meals, but If you really get lucky, Lucky the house helper will cook you a curry like you've never had before. Suggestion is to ask nicely, and bring her extra food from the store. I've never had a better curry in my life!!
Rum dog will greet you upon arrival and will always wag his tale and escort you to your room.
Sometimes guests gather in the evenings after dinner and tell travel stories, play music or incite you out on the town. It's really all at your own speed.
Yes, the showers are tepid, but I'm not one for the cold and was never bothered by the temperature after a long day in the warm sun.
It's very easy to make new friends at Pineapple House, and I've certainly left feeling like a part of me will always be there. It is a magical place and Libby is a magical hostess. Pineapple House is well worth a trip to Antigua :).
Honestly, Liza, I can't thank you enough for such a wonderful review...I didn't want you to leave either! You are the kind of guest EVERYONE would want, as you are so grateful and appreciative. I had a lot of fun too...Loved our trip to Jackie O's Love Beach, and watching your creativity come to life with all those gorgeous beachy blues, great table settings and the gorgeous lunch...Nancy's pottery studio was a blast as well...you are most creative, and so inspiring! I love your description of Rum Dog, as I've watched him walk people up to their rooms and it gives me a chuckle...I can see him in a little suit and neck tie...the new butler!!! lol...Also, enjoyed meeting Mary so much as well...please give her our love too....we'll look out for you both again...Lots of love...Libby x
Libby is the best host, we were given a really warm welcome to Rum Jungle and encouraged to meet all the other guests. It really is an enchanted little cottage with great views, ocean breezes, it is filled with brightly coloured lizards and birds - we even had hummingbirds feeding from the many vases of hibiscus placed around! At first we really thought we were in paradise.
However, we encountered a couple of issues, that we wished we had known before-hand, I'll list them here so as to help you better choose if this is the place for you.
This one came as a bit of a surprise - there is no hot water in Rum Jungle, or any of the little cottages or main house - whilst being basic is good fun, this is a lot of money to be boiling your own hot water in a saucepan on the stove for a shave, and having cold showers, and I wish this had been a choice rather than a surprise.
Secondly we had little to no privacy, on 4 out of 7 days unknown men walked in on us, down from the house and in through the curtained off back entrance which is directly next to the loo which only has a glass door, resulting in me face to face with a stranger whilst I was using the toilet. I think and hope that Libby is sorting out the door so as to better close Rum Jungle off so that you feel safe. But we got to a stage where we dreaded using the loo in case someone barged in on us.
It turns out that Libby is famous for her great parties, but having a surprise party at 4.30 directly on the ceiling above us, involving people shouting through our window (I say that but there is no glass in the windows) at 2.30am and a drunk man blundered down into our kitchen at 3.30am which made me scream myself awake, is not really what I wanted from my holiday.
BUT, this is only because we go to bed early and get up before dawn. If you are a night-bird then Rum Jungle is the place for you.
It really is beautiful, it's situated in such a great part of town, Libby is an amazing, lovely host, so....
make sure you don't mind cold showers, don't mind steep steps up and down from the road, love late night socialising and parties - then this will be paradise for you. Don't hesitate, book now. But if you are an early riser, fancying a warm shower then this may not be the best place for you.
Libby is a very welcoming and generous host. She ensures all her guests are well looked after. No one is excluded from the social side of Pineapple House. The place feels like one big happy family. It was a pleasure meeting Libby and all the other guests and sailors who were staying there.
Rum Jungle is its own comfortable, self-contained unit. It was lovely to share the place with the visiting birds in the morning, as well as Libby's friendly dog, Rumdog when he popped his head around the corner!
The location is very convenient. It’s pretty much opposite Antigua Yacht Club/marina. The shops are just a few minutes’ walk away and Nelson’s Dockyard is in the next harbour (only about a 10-minute walk). If you want to explore further, you can rent a car just down the road from there for about USD 60 per day. Overall, a great place to stay.
The Pineapple House Property is a very nice and special place to stay on Antigua. Located on a hill with a great view over the harbour with lots of huge sailing yachts.
Rum Jungle is one of the cottages in the property. It is a very nice, tastefully decorated, and comfy cottage for 2 and has everything you need: Great view, nice porch, small kitchen! The only small drawback is, that Rum Jungle is located right next to the entrance of the property and it is at the foot of the hill (thats why we started to call it the "basement" :) ) - so it is the closest one to the street (but not much traffic) and if you want a better view and a bit more quiet go for the Bird House or the other cottages Libby is offering.
Libby is a really great, welcoming and caring host and does everything, that you feel comfortable and welcome - always a Rum Punch ready for you if you want. There is always something going on at the Pineapple House - so if you want you can have fun with all those other people staying there (many sailing people) - so just go to the main house and interesting and fun conversations are granted! But if you want some more privacy that is also absolutely respected.
We can absolutely recommend to stay with Libby at the Pinapple House! If we ever come back to Antigua, one of the cottages at the Pineapple House would be our first choice!
Libby is the best host ever, she makes you feel so welcome, like you are home. The room was beautiful, much better than the pictures, so cozy and tasteful decorated, it is located right in front of the Barbour with amazing views to the big boats from the bedroom and 5 minutes walking distance from the beach.
Libby is able to create a great atmosphere with her guests, everybody loves her and the main house allows plenty of room for everybody to interact and share experiences. My best moments in the beautiful Antigua were spent in Libby's house. We are so glad we stayed there and have the chance to meet Libby and all her guests. She recommended us places to eat, shop..., she arranged everything for our perfect tour to Barbuda.... Thanks Libby for such a great experience in your place and making us part of your family ;)
If we ever go back to Antigua, we will definitely stay at
Libby's! We will never forget such a great experience!
Maribel...You are so very kind...Such a LOVELY review! I loved the evening that we all spent at home with the Italian's team cooking, Spanish team doing the dishes and the British team drying them....I had SUCH a great time with you and Carla....Not long enough stay with you was my only complaint....LOL...Please come for longer than just the weekend next time....Hope you made it home safely...we will always think of you fondly!
