Four acres of tranquility enables you to enjoy a small farm experience with native birds, bush & ponds. A beautiful wood fired hot tub overlooking the bay is available for guests to enjoy (weather permitting). If you like animals, this is perfect for you - alpacas, ducks, chickens and of course Ragdoll cats (and kittens during the season). Come share my little piece of paradise.

There are other accommodation options on the property, search Tumbleweed Downs.

The space

This comfortable farmhouse style home in a park like setting with plenty of areas to relax inside and out has a wrap around veranda giving many nooks to sit in or out of the sun. It's about enjoying it for what it is - a natural environment with the pleasures that animals bring. My aim is to promote a warm, friendly, stress free environment that all will feel at home in. There could be a bit of fluff or a leaf on the carpet - it is a farmlet after all. The home has two guest rooms available - this room with one queen bed and a single; the bathroom is shared with the other guest room (if occupied). Also available on the property, a studio unit (sleeps 4) and a camper (sleeps 2).

Home cooked farm style dinner and/or breakfast available by prior arrangement. Dinner (main and desert) $25 per person, cooked breakfast (bacon, fresh free range eggs and toast) $15, continental (cereal and toast) $10.

Guest access

Enjoy the entire property including the hot tub, walk through the beautiful gardens, native bush or farm paddocks with alpacas, chickens, ducks and ragdoll cats.

Interaction with guests

I love people, and enjoy interacting and sharing my beautiful property, but equally there is plenty of room for my guests to have their own space, including a separate lounge/living area.

Other things to note

Please understand this is my home, which includes my cats and animals. I vacuum and clean daily, but bear in mind it is a shared space, and is 'lived in'. I make every effort to keep it tidy during the day and would appreciate the same consideration from my guests.

Earlier check in possible by prior arrangement.

Laundry facilities (including iron) available - NZ$10 per wash and dry.

Dawns place is awesome! This is he second time we've stayed. If you love nature and animals its especially great! Her cats are so fun to play with, we probably spent more time with them than we did in Nelson since it was raining so hard. Thanks for having us again Dawn! Lovely stay as usual.

Dawn's home is situated on a beautiful property. The home is very nice and accommodation very comfortable. She was very generous with letting us share her space in the kitchen and around the house. Highly recommend this place if you have a vehicle. My favorite part was playing with the kitty's and kittens! I wish I could've taken a kitten with me!!

Dawn and her home are truly magical. The location is at the top of a hill, so you can see the ocean, the mountains, pretty much everything as you are sitting in her wood-fire hot tub! She has all the brochures about what to do in the area and can tell you all the must-visit places. While we were there, she had a litter of rag dolls that were about to go to their new homes, and a litter that had just been born. They were soooo cute and had the most wonderful little personalities. As for Dawn, she was the best! Super nice and funny, with the cutest laugh! She stayed up and drank wine with us, brought out her collection of onesies when it got cold, and was a pleasure to be around. If we ever make it back to New Zealand, our trip wouldn't be complete without another visit to Dawn!

Dawn's place is peaceful and secluded, a perfect combo for anyone who just wants to relax a bit. Conveniently it is also a quick drive from the charming nearby village of Mapua which is a great place to grab a meal if you are too lazy to cook. Also, her cats (and kittens!) were absolutely adorable.

Our stay at Dawn's was amazing! She was an excellent host--so warm, generous, and fun to talk to. During our stay, we took advantage of the spectacular wood fired hot tub, Dawn's bikes, and the spacious kitchen. The view was beautiful and the room clean and cozy. We were lucky enough to be there during kitten season, and spent tons of time petting and playing with Dawn's sweet kittens. We loved her property, and had fun seeing her sheep, chickens, and alpacas. The location is wonderful--an easy bike ride to wineries, and a quick drive to Mapua Wharf, with lovely cafes and a brewery. Dawn was a hoot, and regaled us with many stories. It was great to drink wine and laugh with her. Ask her about her time living on a sailboat! Thank you so much Dawn for a wonderful stay--we had the best time, and will really miss the kittens and your warmth!
