About this listing
Romantic guesthouse in the center/ the Provence Room.
A beautiful and romantic colonial guesthouse in Cartagena de Indias, in the vibrant and traditional Getsemani area, one of the last truly exotic places in the Caribbean, the most dynamic downtown location where new luxury boutique hotels, bars and restaurants sprawl. Positioned in a quiet street, away from traffic and commercial activities, and just a few feet from the Arsenal and the booming Calle del Guerrero night spots and at walking distance from all the best restaurants.
The house is a mix of colonial and mediterranean style designed by award winning architect and decorated with african elements and maps brought back by the owner in his African journeys. All rooms are customed designed and fully equipped. The cotto floors with spanish ceramic accents help you cool down and unwind surrounded by an abundant tropical vegetation with adult mango and palm trees.
Guests can relax in the patios and enjoy an open air tile jacuzzi on the terrace and a mirador/solarium with view on the Cathedral, the churches of San Pedro and La Trinidad and the Castillo San Felipe. The house is on a north-south axis and enjoys plenty of natural ventilation.

"...as part of a broader Colombian reawakening, the city is resurfacing with boutique hotels, fusion-seeking restaurants and new fashion labels that turn sleepy towns into global destinations. Tourists are descending on its galleries, strolling idly down its byways, reveling with locals at New Year’s Eve parties in public plazas. Travelers now call it Latin America’s hippest secret." The New York Times May 2, 2010
"Take a dash of faded colonial grandeur, then add a dose of sultry nightlife and an influx of cosmopolitan travelers seeking the next great Caribbean hot spot. Oliver Schwaner-Albright sets his sights on an emerging Colombian getaway that delivers all this and more." Travel + Leisure April 2008
"...recently, the Colombian port town of Cartagena has become an unlikely food destination, attracting the kind of culinary travelers who spend their vacations in Rome and Paris. And what they find is a city far more exotic, but no less adroit at catering to sophisticated palates...200-year-old Spanish colonial mansions refurbished with crisp interiors, trendy bistros that elevate plantains to haute fare, and theatrical rooms buzzing with dignitaries in starched collars and Windsor knots sipping minty rum drinks..." The New York Times October 26, 2008
"David Ebershoff visits this dreamy city by the sea, a place that wears its rich history as lightly as it does its languorous charm." Conde Nast Traveller March 2007

Marcus was a very good host before during and after my experience staying at his guest home. It is more like a bed-and-breakfast and the people who work there are very nice. The food was good and the room was very comfortable. The air-conditioner works well, which is a blessing, because Cartagena is very hot and humid. Make sure you bring a big hat! The shower was open to the sky which was cool. I liked my small room which was perfect for one person. It might be a little small for two, however they have larger rooms. Luis, the man who works there was very helpful with directions and other issues. Everything in the room worked well. It is centrally located in only a mile walk from the downtown area where all of the beautiful buildings are. It's nice to be away from all of that and to go to the quiet neighborhood of Gethsemane to rest for the evening.
Marcus provided transportation to the place, we arrived to a quaint, tasteful, warm little boutique hotel. We loved the grounds, filled with character and friendly staff. Our room was lovely, and our oasis along with the jacuzzi after our long warm days. We would recommend this romantic little place to anyone traveling to cartagena. The service was really just perfect and the breakfast, superb!! Fresh exotic juices a bonus!! Thank you Marcus and team, we loved our stay.
The rooms are well laid out, thoughtfully decorated, and comfortable. Breakfast was scrumptious. Marcus and Lluis were delightful and thoughtful hosts. The location was great. I look forward to returning!
An amazing stay!!! Marcus, Luis, and the other staff members at Les Lézards went out of their way to make us comfortable in Cartagena. My partner and I do not speak Spanish, but it was not a problem at all. Upon arrival, Luis met us, gave us a full orientation to the city and helped us book tickets to visit Tayrona National Park. This was by far the most beautiful air BnB room I have ever stayed in. Marcus has a wonderful eye for design, and the entire place is lush, romantic, and beautiful to look out. We were trying to decide between staying here or at one of the cheaper hostels, and I am SOO glad we spent the extra $. It was more than worth it, and to be honest, I think we had better service and a more beautiful space than some of our friends who stayed at more expensive hotels. The breakfast was delicious and filling, and the jacuzzi was perfect after a hot day exploring the Old City on foot. Love this spot, and would recommend it to anyone.
I really enjoyed my stay at Marcus's property. The guest house is a very cool structure with great rooms, several courtyards, lots of vegetation, and a nice roof area. The staff were very helpful and welcoming, and the breakfast and airport pick up were really convenient. I also cannot say enough for the location. The neighborhood is very interesting. It felt safe and is surrounded by great restaurants and bars, but still feels like an actual part of the city. I stayed in centro a few days after this, but greatly preferred the Getsemani area. It was a lot of fun wandering around at night and seeing all the people hanging out outside their homes or in the squares.
Wow. This was by far the best lodging experience I have ever had. I like that an airport pickup was included: nice touch. Luis, who greeted me upon arrival, was amazing! A most friendly and helpful individual. My room was nice too! I loved the open air shower and the Apple TV to watch Netflix. Great location and a great host. I highly recommend this place!
