The Space

Romantic guesthouse in the center/ the Provence Room.

A beautiful and romantic colonial guesthouse in Cartagena de Indias, in the vibrant and traditional Getsemani area, one of the last truly exotic places in the Caribbean, the most dynamic downtown location where new luxury boutique hotels, bars and restaurants sprawl. Positioned in a quiet street, away from traffic and commercial activities, and just a few feet from the Arsenal and the booming Calle del Guerrero night spots and at walking distance from all the best restaurants.

The house is a mix of colonial and mediterranean style designed by award winning architect and decorated with african elements and maps brought back by the owner in his African journeys. All rooms are customed designed and fully equipped. The cotto floors with spanish ceramic accents help you cool down and unwind surrounded by an abundant tropical vegetation with adult mango and palm trees.

Guests can relax in the patios and enjoy an open air tile jacuzzi on the terrace and a mirador/solarium with view on the Cathedral, the churches of San Pedro and La Trinidad and the Castillo San Felipe. The house is on a north-south axis and enjoys plenty of natural ventilation.

The Provence room.
Very cozy and romantic standard double room inspired from the houses of Provence. 1 queen and 1 sofa or 1 queen and 1 twin bed. The private bathroom has a ceramic tiled open roof shower. Minibar, wifi. 400 count sheets, hard and soft pillows. The white and lila tones will inspire your long Cartagena nights.

"...as part of a broader Colombian reawakening, the city is resurfacing with boutique hotels, fusion-seeking restaurants and new fashion labels that turn sleepy towns into global destinations. Tourists are descending on its galleries, strolling idly down its byways, reveling with locals at New Year’s Eve parties in public plazas. Travelers now call it Latin America’s hippest secret." The New York Times May 2, 2010

"Take a dash of faded colonial grandeur, then add a dose of sultry nightlife and an influx of cosmopolitan travelers seeking the next great Caribbean hot spot. Oliver Schwaner-Albright sets his sights on an emerging Colombian getaway that delivers all this and more." Travel + Leisure April 2008

"...recently, the Colombian port town of Cartagena has become an unlikely food destination, attracting the kind of culinary travelers who spend their vacations in Rome and Paris. And what they find is a city far more exotic, but no less adroit at catering to sophisticated palates...200-year-old Spanish colonial mansions refurbished with crisp interiors, trendy bistros that elevate plantains to haute fare, and theatrical rooms buzzing with dignitaries in starched collars and Windsor knots sipping minty rum drinks..." The New York Times October 26, 2008

"David Ebershoff visits this dreamy city by the sea, a place that wears its rich history as lightly as it does its languorous charm." Conde Nast Traveller March 2007

Les Lezards B&B a romantic gem in old Cartegena and Marcus is truly a saint - you won’t find a nicer or more accommodating host.

A+++ SERVICE: Upon arrival, Marcus arranged for an airport pick-up and personally greeted us to say hello and ensure we were happy with our room and knew EVERYTHING about the city of Cartegena before we began exploring the beautiful city. He provided a detailed map and cited all the worthwhile areas, restaurants and shops to visit in old Cartegena. Marcus has lived in Cartegena for over twenty years, so his insider knowledge is far superior than any guide book recommendation or online suggestions you’ll find. Additionally, he was available 24/7 in case we needed any help or had any questions – and of course - we did many times … His shining moment as a gracious and committed host actually occurred after we had departed Les Lezards – if you can believe - he personally tracked down our misplaced cell phone and shipped it to us at home! You will not find a nicer or more accommodating host than Marcus.

A+++ PROPERTY: Les Lezards B&B is romantic, charming and seductive. The chic Mediterranean aesthetic is reflective of Marcus’ European roots and nods to his design savvy as a professional photographer. With winding brick and tile staircases leading to secluded bedrooms, open showers and – of course – the plant-laden lounge patio with a private Jacuzzi, your humanly troubles fade away and you’re transported to a simpler and more mindful state of mind.

If you’re going to stay in the old city of Cartegena, there is only one place – Les Lezards!

  • My fiancé and I very much enjoyed our stay with Marcus and his staff in his guesthouse in Getsemani. The room was cute, spotlessly clean, had a comfortable bed, small bathroom with very cool open air shower and super strong a/c. We especially liked spending time in the close by Plazuela Trinidad and the day trip Marcus recommended to us. The staff was incredibly patient and kind even though our Spanish is practically non-existent. Breakfast was great too!

  • My experience was completely flawless. This place is what I like to call a hidden gem. It was not only chic, but the service and cleanliness was impeccable. His staff Manuela and Epifania are amazing. I would totally recommend for anyone that wants a real experience, in a magical city. He is a host that has total attention to detail, and whoever stays will be mesmerized. I will stay with him in the future when visiting Cartagena.
    Highly recommend it!

  • A friend and I stayed for six nights at Marcus' exceptional guesthouse. It was a little oasis away from the streets - filled with plants, the smell of sun-dried sheets and lovely people to help you out. Close to everything you want to see and do in Cartagena. We had long days outside and then soaked the foot pain away in the rooftop jacuzzi (beers in hand). Marcus went above and beyond helpful - gave us directions, booked us on buses and even made us soup when we fell ill. This guesthouse is a treasure. If you can get a room, book it now.

  • Wonderfully personal, intimate and friendly little guesthouse offering everything you need: welcoming staff, carefully designed and decorated rooms, tasty breakfast, roof deck jacuzzi, a nearby parrot whistling classic tunes, two turtles strolling by your feet... Perfect location for those seeking a more quiet, authentic experience, yet close enough to all tourist attraction and night life.

  • Delightful place! My room (les amis) was comfortable and nicely appointed, and Marcus and his staff were very friendly and helpful. I especially appreciated that his staff arranged for the lady that lives next door (who will meet you at the airport) to take me to the airport when my taxi didn't show, and for the same price. The neighborhood has a great vibe -- relaxed, safe and friendly.

  • This was a real surprise. I (email hidden), but Marcus (with Maribella, Eppi, and Jean Mark) have made this a tranquil and charming sanctuary. Can't beat the location, and every one of the other guests were very interesting and appreciative of the warm and flexible service of Marcus' team. Especially noteworthy, Marcus was able to come up with acceptable solutions and suggestion on the fly when plans changed and new conditions appeared. He was very helpful to connect to local options, and was open with his history and love for Cartagena. I will definitely return, and hopefully for a longer stay!

  • A little gem! We loved this place, our room was lovely with a super comfy bed and cute entrance area where we'd plot our route for the day. There is a great terrace with jacuzzi perfect for catching some sun or cooling off and breakfast in the courtyard was spent watching the two tortoises play around our feet. The location in Getsemani is fantastic. The b&b is on a quiet road but only 5 mins walk to plaza de la Trinidad which has some great bars and restaurants (definitely check out Demente and la Trattoria) . However what makes this place amazing is Marcus. He (email hidden). Super friendly, full of local recommendations and so helpful. He really made our trip to Cartagena! Thank you again Marcus
