I've traveled a lot and know how much it means to have a cozy welcoming and comfortable place to stay. And whether it's been a ger (yurt) in Mongolia, a round thatched roof house by the seaside on the coast of Senegal, a hotel in Istanbul or an apartment in Paris, I like to know that there will be a pot of good coffee waiting when I wake up in the morning. I'll make sure you have coffee & tea in the morning and at the very least, a continental breakfast--with waffles or pancakes on the weekend!
We are close to transportation into the city (a 5-minute walk to the commuter rail--one stop into Boston), and are on several bus lines that lead to Davis Square and other subway lines. If you are from out of town and have family in one of the area hospitals and are looking for a comfortable place to stay with easy access to the city, this is very convenient, Boston is a great city to visit and I have lots of tips for fun and interesting outings--walks in the city, museums, boat rides to the Boston Harbor Islands in the summertime, restaurants, music and theater.
West Medford is a nice neighborhood for walking--with lots of green space and a lake just down the street (great for a swim in the summer, and nice for a brisk walk in winter). You will find just about all you need within walking distance: banks, post office, dry cleaner, drugstore, coffee shops, pizza and sandwich places. Whole Foods is nearby, as are a number of wine stores. And West Medford is home to award winning Bistro 5 restaurant.
Guests have access to the study/office space and private bathroom on the third floor--where the bedrooms are--as well as to a sitting room on the second floor.
Interaction with Guests
Depends on the guests and on my schedule. Generally, I follow my guests' lead. My aim is to make people feel at home and to respect their privacy.
This is a very friendly neighborhood, safe and great for walking. There is just about everything you need within walking distance--restaurants, banks, dry cleaner, post office, drug store, coffee shops, and more. And we are close to public transportation--buses and commuter rail (1 stop into the city). It's pleasant for walking or going for a run--the Mystic River is just down the street, as are the Mystic Lakes.
Buses to Davis Square (red line subway) and to Lechmere (green line subway) within a minute or two walk; commuter rail 5-7 minute walk.
Guests are welcome to use the microwave and the kitchen for making tea or reheating food. No full use of the kitchen without making special arrangements, however. There is a washer and dryer in the house; for those staying a week or more, arrangements can be made for their use. We don't allow pets, but do sometimes have a visiting dog here, so let us know if you are allergic.
This is a non-smoking house.
About the Host, Jennifer
I've lived in Medford for twenty years, so I know the ins and outs of the area. I'll be happy to show you some of the cool spots in town or leave you to your own devices. Having traveled extensively, I understand what a difference it makes to have a nice, cozy space to come back to after a day's adventures--my aim is to provide just that--a place where you can relax and feel at home.
Our house is in a safe, friendly and easily accessible neighborhood. It's a wonderful old house with a nice garden. We raised our daughter in this house and have shared it with many friends over the years. I look forward to sharing it with you when you come to visit Boston!
