Charming 1900-era Victorian rowhouse centrally-located in the Shaw neighborhood, right in the middle of DC. Please make yourself at home here - a really convenient location for exploring the city, and a desirable neighborhood in the city.
On the opposite end of the house from my room is your private room (with private bath), located on the quiet back side of the house, and overlooking the back yard. It features a very comfortable queen-sized bed with soft cotton sheets, down duvet, ceiling fan, ceiling lights on dimmers, and bedside lighting. This attractive and relaxing room has a large window allowing in natural light (North), as well as a huge closet to accommodate all your belongings and keepsakes from traveling. There is a twin-sized trundle bed that can be pulled out from under the bed at night, and rolled back under during the day, if there is a third guest. Your private, skylighted bath is a single step from your door, and features a shower/tub combo with great water pressure, as well as towels, a hair dryer, and various toiletries for your use.
The house is comfortable, homey, and well-appointed, with hardwood floors throughout, lots of natural light, and comfortable furnishings. Guests have full access to the common areas of the house - living room with TV, dining room, kitchen with all appliances and wares, washer/dryer, and backyard. This should feel like your home away from home!
***There is a resident cat and dog, both rather amiable rescues. I’m convinced the cat is part dog, and the dog is all snuggles once she gets to know you. You must be a dog-lover to stay here!***
The kitchen is fully-equipped with gas stove, microwave, dishwasher, French press pot, electric kettle, toaster oven, large fridge -- as well as ample pantry supplies for making abundant coffee, tea, and breakfasts (I tend to always have oatmeal and bagels on hand for quick breakfasts, as well as fruit of some kind). Whole Foods and other food outlets (including the Bloomingdale Farmers Market on Sundays) are not far, if you care to shop and cook other meals while in town.
Other house facilities include wireless internet, a washer and dryer (I have detergent for your use), tv and dvd player for movies (no cable), and a backyard with patio and seating.
I'm happy to interact as little or as much as my guests would like! I share the house with guests, so I (and my pets) are present, but I also work a full-time job outside the home, and keep a schedule busy with friends and activities, so am not over-present in your space in the house.
I'm a former Airbnb employee, and ask that you fill out a profile prior to booking with me, and tell me a little about your planned stay; I can best determine if my place is a good fit for you, as well as provide more custom travel information with this bit of detail. If you're unsure of airbnb in general, I'm a great host for first-timers who'd like to learn more about the business, and feel comfortable as first-time guests!
Shaw is an awesome neighborhood, and so convenient to exploring the city! You can walk to many things - whether the downtown Mall where the museums and Capitol are, or to great local restaurants - and what's not walkable (or when you need a break) can be reached by taxi or public transit easily.
The house is close to many public transit options: - Metro (a 5 minute walk to the Shaw/Howard stop that is fine to do at night; yellow/green lines; this is an easy way to arrive to/from Reagan National airport);
- bus (numerous options on several close by main streets);
- Capital Bikeshare (1 block away, with stations all across the city);
- taxi (head to a main street to hail, or I can call one for you).
If you are driving into town, I can offer use of a permit for street parking at a rate of $15/day (Sundays and holidays are exempted from charge).
If you like walking, the house is a 15 walk to the Convention Center and Logan Circle; a hop to the Bloomingdale/LeDroit Park neighborhoods and the Big Bear Coffeeshop featuring food, drinks, and events; a 10-15 minute walk to the U Street corridor's food and music clubs (including the 9:30 Club); H Street and 14th Street and the nightlife in those spots is just a bit further afield. The house is about 1 mile / 25 min walk to the National Mall, Capitol, Monuments and Smithsonian Museums, or a quick 8 minute metro ride.
OK, in our best English ;-) The location was just great. The pictures speak for themselves and also correspond to the Reality. The house is designed with so much love! In every corner you can discover anything. We love it! Erin is great, and to sit with her on tea and exchange ideas was awesome and so funny. Thank you so much for this day/night. We hope we'll meet again, maybe in Germany? Nicoletta and Tobias
Erin is wonderful! This was my first Airbnb experience and it was exactly what I wanted. 2 minutes from the metro, clean and comfy.
Erin was an accommodating and friendly host with a great place and two gorgeous pets. The location is awesome and she had some tasty recommendations for dinner places nearby. She even managed to squeeze in an extra bed for our third member and it worked out great! I'd definitely recommend it!
Excellent experience - room was spotless and Erin was a fabulous host! Will definitely stay here again.
Erin has a very homy townhouse and very well located. She is a wonderful host and a great chef. The home is very clean and comfortable with a very nice setting in the leaving areas and private bed room. The bed has a very comfi mattress that is difficult to get up.
As for Erin from the beginning we had wonderful communication and was very kind and friendly, we had very nice chats and I was fortunate to meet some of her friends over a dinner.
i would have no second thoughts about staying with Erin again.
Erin's place is so wonderful - my boyfriend and I loved it. She was really really friendly, showed us some really nice local restaurants and bars and made our stay unforgetable. Whenever we needed anything she was available. She’s being helpful!
A couple of days before our arrival she checked with us if everything works out for us and if we need any help with the directions or the like. We are really spontaneous but she still was really willing to explain us the neighborhood and nice spots to go to. Finally we ended up three times in one of her favorite restaurants/bars because we also liked it a lot.
Actually I'm not into cats but I love her cat - really easy going and so funny! And my boyfriend might be a little bit reserved according to dogs but he immediately made friends with Erin's dog when she laid down on her back to get some stroke on her belly. So lovely!
Furthermore, it is a really nice neighborhood with nice, individual restaurants and which is great to have a walk before you go to bed. It is also really close to the subway (less than 5 minutes).
It almost sounds too perfect, but it really is!
If we come back we will book her room again! It’s like home!
We were at Erin her beautiful home for just one night. Due to bad weather our train was delayed for a few hours so we arrived very late. Erin was very nice and friendly and so are her cat and dog. Everything was very clean and the bed was very nice. We would highly recommend staying at Erin's home when visiting Washington! We would love to come again!
My wife, our 18 year daughter and I stay at Erin's house for 6 nights. This is a wonderful experience and we feel just as a home. Erin is a very nice person. The communication is very effective. Thanks Erin for your 5 star cookies - we love it so much. and also the Metro Maps which is very useful for our trip. The cat and dog are so lovely and they are our good friends. The house is very clean and well maintained. The facilities such as kitchen, washing machine, dry machine are well maintained. The bed is comfortable. The room is very quiet for good sleep. The location of the house is very good. It is very convenient to take bus to Union Station and Georgetown. The Shaw Metro Station is only 6 min by walk. It takes around 25 min to Capitol Hill or White House. The Thai restaurant recommended by Erin is only 1 min and the food is very good. The Giant Grocery is only 5 min away. The neighborhood is friendly and the area is safe. Highly recommend Erin's house.
This was my first experience with airbnb, needless to say I was quite skeptical having been used to staying in hotels for so long. Erin was the perfect host and made my airbnb experience a pleasant one. She's so friendly and makes you feel right at home the moment you walk in. Both her cat and dog, Beija are rather friendly and get used to you in no time. I'd highly recommend Erin's home for anyone planning to visit Washington. It is right in the middle of everything. I even got to a few meetings on walk and the National Mall and all the other good stuff are just a couple of metro stops away.
I am so grateful to have found this warm, comfortable haven on an uncharacteristically cold and snowy weekend in DC. Erin's home is a delight. She has taken care with the smallest of details, to ensure that her guests have a relaxed, enjoyable stay. The bed is unbelievably comfortable. I strongly recommend her as an airbnb host!
