Our home is clean, quiet, immersed in nature, 10 minutes to historic downtown Flagstaff, has most amenities needed by Grand Canyon travelers, and provides easy access to outdoor activities. We live onsite and are available to help our guests feel comfortable and safe during their stay. We have extensive knowledge of the area as we are guides and outdoor enthusiasts. We run a small, sustainability, education center onsite that works with students of all ages and donates produce to our community.

The space
If you are planning on visiting the Grand Canyon, exploring northern Arizona, skiing at the Arizona Snowbowl, or just looking to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city and spend time immersed in nature, a few nights at the Flagstaff Grand Canyon Mountain Chalet is just what you need. We are located 7 miles (10 minutes) from historic downtown Flagstaff, 1.25 hours from the Grand Canyon, 15 minutes from Arizona Snowbowl, and surrounded by thousands of acres of the Coconino National Forest.

You will stay in the lower level of our home with a private entrance that gives you easy access to come and go as you please. There are two bedrooms (one room has a king bed and the other has two twin beds), and a private kitchenette, dining area, and bathroom. Enjoy sunsets and views of the mountains from your own outdoor sitting area with bistro table and chairs in order to get the peace and quiet you need. We are kid friendly and have games, puzzles, toys, books, a highchair, and movies to help keep the family entertained. We have two kids of our own, Journey (4) and Quest (2) that you will most likely see sometime during your visit as we love spending as much time together outdoors as possible.

The surrounding neighborhood is quiet with gorgeous views of the San Francisco Peaks (a sacred area to numerous Tribes), the occasional herd of elk, or a fly by from a red-tailed hawk. Within minutes from our home, you can enjoy hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, sledding, snowshoeing, or cross-country skiing depending on the season.

Not sure where to go or what to see on your trip? No problem! We have an online guidebook, an entertainment binder full of local and statewide activities, maps, and menus, and, because we live upstairs, we are generally available to share our local knowledge.

We have also, historically, run a nonprofit sustainability education center onsite called The Flagstaff EcoRanch which is dedicated to education and sustainable living. We focus on and teach about water and energy conservation techniques, sustainable gardening, raising chickens and bees, and supporting our local community through food donations. We attribute the success of the EcoRanch to our visiting college and high school classes, volunteers, and interns. On a typically year we have had over 2,000 hours of volunteer work to help develop projects and contribute to the Flagstaff community. and the Eco Ranch activities have earned a Green Building Certification in the Community Model category. Your stay helps fund the EcoRanch and the sustainable education we provide to the community. (Please note: we will be scaling back the EcoRanch activities in 2022 due to COVID and Jeff's decision to pursue a PhD!).

We look forward to hosting you and are happy to answer any questions you may have.

Where you’ll be

Flagstaff, Arizona, United States

Our neighborhood is unique because of the breathtaking views of the San Francisco peaks, its peacefulness, distance from the hustle and bustle of downtown, and proximity to national forest. It is also closer to the Grand Canyon than the rest of downtown, making catching a sunrise there even more feasible!

Hello, our names are Jeff and Julie and we are co-hosting this listing for our neighbors Todd and Dorothy Ann. We look forward to having you stay here and experiencing all the beauty northern Arizona has to offer.

Jeff is a professional educator originally from Chesterland, OH who currently works for Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ teaching biology and anatomy/physiology. Julie currently works for the Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals (ITEP) as a Senior Program Coordinator. ITEP strengthens tribal capacity and sovereignty through culturally relevant education, research, partnerships and policy-based services. In her part time, Julie works as a backpacking guide for the Wildland Trekking Company running multi-day trips into the Grand Canyon.

Together, using our passion for the outdoors and grassroots organization, we run the Flagstaff EcoRanch. It is our goal to further integrate the EcoRanch into the Flagstaff community in order to raise awareness about environmental and sustainable issues. We are highly motivated individuals who love being in the outdoors hiking and exploring with our two young boys, Journey and Quest.

The money received through our own Airbnb listing has funded the Flagstaff EcoRanch and supported our student led projects like water catchment systems, greywater and irrigation projects, setting up a local CSA, and designing educational programs for local schools and organizations. Although we are taking a break from the EcoRanch this year, we will (of course) be growing as much of our own food as possible and continue to experiment with new systems for sustainable agriculture and indoor sustainability projects.

We look forward to having you stay nearby and hope that while here, not only will you be able to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the area, but learn more about the Flagstaff community.

Have a great day and we hope to see you soon!
