The master bedroom in the clock tower apartment at St Pancras Station, with its own en suite bathroom and use of the main kitchen and dining room and the clock tower itself. It sits in Scott's gothic revival railway hotel building from 1868.
This flat above St Pancras International is in the famous clock tower. A ten metre high room in the tower looks out on many of London's landmarks such as St Paul's Cathedral. A large kitchen on the top floor looks out over Kings Cross Station.
It is within walking distance of many of London's sights, from the British Library next door to the British Museum and the West End 20-25 minutes away. There are lots of shops in St Pancras Station and the best grocery store nearby is Waitrose in the Brunswick Centre.
As the flat is on the 5th floor and fully equipped with secondary glazing, the road and railway noise is very low and almost nobody notices it but I would advise delicate sleepers to be aware of it before booking.
Although I have increased the price a bit recently due to the high level of demand, I am willing to be flexible, particularly for longer stays.
The bed is a double futon which means it is fairly firm (NB scheduled to being changed in mid-March 2014). If this is not to your taste, please book the other listing (if available). There is additional bedding available by prior arrangement if you want an extra bed or mattress in the room. Clean towels and soap/shampoo are provided as standard.
Little things are provided in the flat, such as London Oyster cards for public transport (electronic cards for you to use and top up), a UK SIM loaded cellphone, a hairdryer, international plug adaptors, umbrella.
The clock tower's height lends itself to some extraordinary events. See YouTube for a video of an aerialist on a rope (Gisele Edwards).
The clock tower was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott like an Italian bell tower but never held bells. The clock never has and does not ring.
This listing is for the master double bedroom and en suite bathroom (plus the main Clock Tower room and kitchen). There is central hi-fi throughout the house and a hifi jack in a wall in the room.
The principal guest room in the apartment has its own bathroom and is on a separate listing, and both rooms may be occupied by Airbnb guests. So you will likely be sharing the flat with others.
Occasionally the flat is used for day functions, evening pop-up restaurants or photo shoots but I shall try to inform you of any such appointments. Both bedrooms have en suite bathrooms and lockable doors for security. It is also sometimes used by local community groups but I will let you know if it is.
I am as flexible as I can be on arrival and departure but it is essential that visitors consult me on and keep to their plans, so that I can manage my cleaner and bed changing and make sure there aren't two couples competing for the same bedroom at the same time of day.
I am willing to accept the business of one night bookings but reserve the right to ask you to change the bedding for the following visitor if time is tight.
Interaction with Guests
I am not always at St Pancras because I spend a lot of time up in Cambridge where I am finishing the restoration and conversion of some buildings going back to the 16th century. I try to diary to meet my guests if I can but if I am not there when you arrive, the concierge will supply you with the key to the apartment.
If you want to hold a celebration party, please discuss it with me. Any events going beyond 2230 normally require a booking to be made for the whole apartment as it is otherwise unfair on other guests. A 500 pound security deposit will normally be required for any groups in excess of 20. The main rules are that loud music does not go on beyond 2330, that guests do not mill out into the corridors of the building, that there is no glitter/confetti/paper string and that you agree to pay for any extra carpet cleaning required by large numbers.
It is within walking distance of many of London's sights, from the British Library next door to the British Museum and the West End 20-25 minutes away. There are lots of shops in St Pancras Station. The best mainstream grocery store nearby is Waitrose in the Brunswick Centre. There is more public transport within 100m than almost anywhere else on the planet (buses, metro, rail).
What is really exciting about Kings Cross now is its pace of development. New office buildings will house the European HQ of (website hidden) and many other businesses. As offices are completed, they are fully let such is the demand for space in this area.
The opening of new restaurants and shopping facilities now and over the coming years is transforming a former post-industrial desert to one of the most exciting parts of the metropolis.
The public transport is fantastic. There are 5 underground lines and dozens of bus routes as well as the mainline services to the north (St Pancras to Leicester, Sheffield, Derby), the north-east (Kings Cross to Edinburgh, York, Leeds, Cambridge), the south-east (St Pancras to Canterbury, Dover), the continent (St Pancras to Paris, Brussels) and the north-west (Euston to Liverpool, Birmingham, Manchester).
All London airports are easy (St Pancras to Luton or Gatwick), the Piccadilly Line to Heathrow), the Metropolitan and DLR to City), the Victoria and mainline train to Stansted) or Liverpool Street to Southend.
Other Things to Note
This is a great building to stay in. Please do respect the fact that the building is home to many other residents and be careful not to disturb them if you are taking photographs in the common areas.

Peter has an absolutely stunning home - it really has to be seen to be believed. It's a completely unique space and I think compares very favourably to staying in a high-end hotel in London. I'm thrilled that I was able to see the inside of the St. Pancras clock tower, and would highly recommend booking here to anybody who wants a fascinating insight into one of London's most iconic buildings.
I booked this wonderful apartment 2 days before arrival, and would like to thank Peter for so graciously hosting my friend and I on such short notice. Peter is truly a kind gentleman and he shared with us some history of the clock tower and he was also very accommodating to some friends who came to visit and marvel at every detail in this unique space. I had a lovely day browsing through the fine collection of books, and enjoyed using the hi-fi system to enjoy some classical music while reading. The apartment is a real gem, everything was perfect and I could not be happier with this magical experience. Thank you very much Peter, for sharing your paradise with us. I hope to be back soon :)
The st pancras bell tower is more like a wonderful boutique hotel than a bnb. The added benefit is that Peter is welcoming and helpful without being intrusive. I can not more highly recommend staying here.
Incredibly hospitable and a wonderful room. Would love to go back!
Peter was warm and welcoming and ensured we had a lovely stay at his amazing
Home had a lovely meal with peter and Tim with enjoyable conversation.
Would love to stay again one day.
Peter is a real gentleman and a very attentive host and the Clock Tower is truly a unique apartment. Despite some building work in progress (for which there was a discounted price), Peter made sure that everything worked. Check-in and check-out seamless and relaxed.
Had an amazing stay at the apartment. Such a great place and Peter was very hospitable and accommodating, making it all the better. Definitely recommend.
endroit d exception par son originalité
hôte attentionné et disponible pour partager avec ses convives
c était un tres beau moment et un joli souvenir
Had a lovely stay at the clock tower. Amazing setting and unique room. Peter was very helpful and even allowed my boyfriend to play on his grand piano!
The history of this building is incredible, and you really can't beat the location. This was my second time staying at the clock tower, this time with two friends. Peter was so accommodating, and had the room perfectly set up for the three of us when we arrived. Being above Kings Cross/St Pancras means it could not be easier to get anywhere in London, and to surrounding cities or over to Paris on Eurostar. Would definitely recommend staying in the clock tower, guest suite or master!
