Guest room w/private bath with family in lovely house; walk to hiking trails in Tilden Park (near the golf course, merry-go-round, Lake Anza, Botanical Gardens), a quick ride to campus, restaurants and shops, San Francisco, Marin, Wine Country, etc.

The space

Cozy guest room w/private bath in lovely house in the Berkeley Hills; walking distance to hiking trails and other attractions in Tilden Park (the golf course, merry-go-round, Lake Anza, Steam Trains, Botanical Gardens), two blocks to the bus stop (#65 & 67 bus from Grizzly Peak and Muir way, 15 minutes to UC Berkeley, 20 minutes to downtown Berkeley/BART), ample parking, and a quick (5 minute) car ride to the University of California campus, San Francisco (20 minutes), Marin County, Wine Country, Oakland, and great restaurants (the Gourmet Ghetto, made famous by Chez Panisse and other fine ethnic eateries in North Berkeley, are only 6 minutes by car), cultural attractions, etc. Perfect for individuals or couples who want to explore the Bay Area.

The room is fully furnished with two comfy twin beds, built in bookshelves/desk and Bay windows overseeing the garden.

It has its own beautifully-renovated bathroom with a nice shower, and private entrance from the side of the house. It faces our garden of roses, azaleas and ferns, and with frequent visits by the hummingbird. The guest space is fully equipped with its own microwave, mini-fridge, hotplate/stove top, toaster oven, coffee maker, hot water kettle, pots and pans, plates, cups and utensils, towels, linen, home entertainment system (large flat screen TV with surround sound, DVD, stereo unit), with free wi-fi and cable TV, and access to washer/ dryer.

The room is a little small for two people once the trundle bed (second twin mattress) is pulled out (given the built-in desk and home entertainment system), but perfect for one!

This is a very peaceful and verdant environment to relax, yet close to so many fun things to do.

Interaction with guests

We are friendly people who love to make recommendations to our favorite restaurants or hikes, and often invite our guests to join us for brunch on the weekends (make great chocolate crepes ;) We have made new friends as Airbnb hosts. Be warned--our 8 year-old twin boys are very chatty! :-) Must like kids (you will hear them playing! But we do provide ear plugs for sleep and studying for our guests who are more sensitive to those sounds :)

Other things to note

Sorry, no same day reservations (we need a little time to get the room ready for our guests so cannot take last minute requests).

As of September 1, 2017, short-term rental hosts are required by the City of Berkeley to collect from guests a 14% transit occupancy tax, similar to what guests at hotels must pay. Unfortunately this tax is collected after the guest requests to book the room (AirBnB doesn't currently collect this tax in Berkeley automatically as they do in San Francisco and Oakland, so we will have to submit a special offer for the dates you request and include the tax in the new total). We apologize for this inconvenience and hope AirBnB will include this Occupancy Tax in the Request to Book total for Berkeley listings soon to make this easier for our guests.

Morry and Sandhya were excellent hosts. The private room and bathroom were comfortable and just the right size for my wife and I. Morry cooked for us on several occasions and provided helpful recommendations regarding the area. We had fun hiking around their neighborhood, seeing the Berkeley rose gardens, and wandering through the botanic garden nearby. Their twin boys were very polite and enjoyable and were not an inconvenience at all. For my wife and I, this was our first Airbnb experience (and our first time in the bay area) and things could not have gone better. As a side note, the bus schedule running out to the house isn't the greatest, so I'd recommend just getting and Uber or Lyft into town. Despite being up in the hills and a little out of the way, I never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a ride. You're less than a 10 minute ride into downtown Berkeley, with access to BART and beyond.

I enjoyed my stay at Morry's and Sandhya's place. The room was cozy and comfortable, and located in a beautiful location up in the Berkeley Hills. Also, Morry and Sandhya were both very friendly and courteous.

The home is high in the Berkeley Hills, close to Tilden Park. The room looks out to the back garden, very serene. Loved the wood floor and cabinetry, and the small selection of books and movies. The daybed was fine for me, but might be short for a tall person (I am 5' 4"). I received a key to the separate side entrance, which is a few steps to the room and is also where the family gets ready to leave in the morning. There is a great parking space in front of the house. The location is not within walking distance to town, so if you want to be near restaurants and shops this spot won't be ideal. Great choice if you want to visit friends or family in the neighborhood, but want your own space at the end of the day. Morry and Sandhya are gracious hosts.

I stayed with Morry and Sandhya when visiting with my sister for my son's graduation. Morry and Sandhya were welcoming and accomodating hosts who answered our questions promptly and provided what we needed. Best part, Morry made delicious, organic blueberry pancakes and coffee for us on Mother's Day morning, and we loved the twins. This is a busy young family, that finds time for everything. The room is nicely furnished and comfortable, and if you hike, you will love the hills and the adjacent park.

Morry and Sandhya were very kind people. They provided me with a safe, clean environment and I would definitely stay here again! The neighborhood was beautiful and I drove through it for a good 10-20 minutes each time I left the house. I had plenty of privacy which is always appreciated :)

This was my second time utilizing AirBNB, and wow was it 100000% better than my first experience (not from this listing). I could not have been happier with my stay with Morry and Sandhya! The room was exactly like described and was incredibly well-priced for it's distance to UC Berkeley. They warn about their twins being a little loud, but I never once had a problem with that, as the room is relatively sound proof, so it worked out great. Would definitely stay here again!
