Quick to respond and help out with anything needed. Pleasant experience with Jennifer and strongly recommended!
Having enjoyed my last stay at Jennifer's pad, I put my big brother up in the place.
He's a bit higher maintenance than I so please bear with his commentary:
Check in was smooth and easy but we were not aware of the massive construction undertaking in Nguyen Hue, no direct route to the building by car and the incessant hammering during the day.
Cleanliness was a small issue albeit tolerable, a plugged shower drain was remedied the next day by maid (website hidden) cable box was non-functional but internet got working once he read the actual instructions on the table. (Not the house manual.)
Brother mostly complained about the lack of maid service, no water in the fridge and lack of microwave.
Other than that, I believe he survived.
The reservation was canceled 5 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
This is a charming apartment located along Nguyen Hue within walking distance of all of District 1's attractions. It is nicely decorated with high ceilings in the living areas and low ceilings in the sleeping loft and bathroom. You live with the local community in the building.
After some initial communication difficulties (which I think were due to my email) Jennifer proved to be an excellent host who cares about her guests.
There are two issues with the apartment. First, it is located in an old building which may suffer from some of the problems inherent in old buildings. (This was OK for me because I live in an old house.) More important, the building fronts large scale construction of a Metro line along Nguyen Hue. On occasion, noise would disturb sleep, particularly if heavy machinery was used in the early hours of the morning. However, when I left the construction seemed to be receding. Also, the website of one of the major hotels along Nguyen Hue reports that the construction in this area is scheduled for completion in February 2015.
Overall, this was a pleasant and interesting place to stay in HCMC.
My Stay at Jennifer's apartment was good. It's location is excellent and the peoples who live and work within the complex are very friendly. Unfortunately due to all the construction happening just outside of the apartment building there is much late night noise and vibrations from drilling which made sleep difficult at times.
Overall we were fairly disappointed. There were some good things, but the disappointing things were more pronounced.
The place was only "surface" clean. All the corners were filthy, including the hallway leading to the flat, corners in the living room, kitchen, bathroom.
Some positive points included clean towels, basic amenities being included (toilet paper, shampoo, soap). However, the drawbacks kept standing out.
We tried to ask the host before arriving about the best way to reach the apartment from the airport. She did not respond. We also tried to contact the host mid-stay because we were having a major ant infestation problem. There were ants all over the flat's only sofa, ants all over the kitchen, and so we tried emailing the host. No response.
After thinking about why she did not respond we realized it's possible she prefers communication via phone or apps like WhatsApp. However, we were traveling without a phone and this was the first time out of many times using Airbnb when we simply couldn't reach our host via email.
The location is very central, and this was a good point. The place is very old-fashioned, which has its charms and minor inconveniences. There were a few cockroaches, which is understandable considering that it seems to be a very old building. Having lived in NYC this was not shocking, although I did not expect it considering how clean the place appears to be in the photos.
I would not stay here again, despite the handful of good points it had.
Unfortunately, I did not receive the message until I logged onto my Airbnb account. I usually get a text message when a guest tries booking the apartment but in this case it was too late to respond to Andres and am truly sorry he stay was disappointing. My maid comes daily and rest assure I keep a tidy apartment and wouldn't want to disappoint any guests staying there and know that guest comments are taken seriously. If you read all of my previous guest comments they have never said it was filthy. I would have to strongly disagree with that statement. As for the cockroaches and ant problems thats just a problem in Vietnam in general, even if your place is spotless. I always have that problem even in my newly built apartment building, I have a raid bottle that stored under the kitchen counter that you could spray away.
I do have clear instructions to contact me through whatsapp or messengers if you need to contact me immediately. I have free wireless connection in the apartment and would have been responsive if you had a mobile phone.
As stated clearly in the description, it is in an old local building but my apartment is one of the renovated ones. With the price and location you are paying, I don't think you can ask for more unless you are staying in a proper 5 star hotel.
I am sorry that your stay was not memorable and have emailed Andres to tell him next time if he is ever in town, I would like to host him for free. Unfortunately, I cannot meet everyones expectations.
Communication and booking were relatively easy.
Jennifer was accessible and did her best to answer all questions.
The location has been handicapped by the massive construction work along all of Nguyen Hue.
The window leakage continues.
