  • Francesca and her mother Filomena were very gracious hosts. The night we arrived we had some plumbing issues with the toilet. At 11pm that same evening we were able to walk around the corner to speak with Filomena who stated that she would be able to come over the next day to check out the problem. She came at the exact time specified and did everything possible to resolve this and a few other issues in a timely manner. Although it took about 4 days of our 3 week stay for everything to get back in working order, it didn't affect our overall experience. Filomena even went so far as to provide us with a map of the area, and explained how all the different types of transportation worked and gave suggestions about what to see first. Francesca was also very responsive to all of our emails and questions even when we thought we may be bothering her too much! They are two wonderful people and I am happy to have rented from them.
I would recommend casa di Francy Apt for people that want to stay in an area with a slower pace. We were about a 10-15 minute walk from the Vatican and the same distance in a different direction to the Tiber River (from there you can easily walk to the Spanish Steps). The location was wonderful in regards to restaurants, supermarkets, etc. McDonalds was across the street and remained open until very late. There are two grocery stores in very close proximity, Chinese food, sushi places and lots of wonderful Italian eateries also! Anything you can think of is probably available and within a 5 minute walk in any direction. There is a park at the end of the street and many other nice places to sit as you begin to wander through the streets. I always felt safe walking around at night no matter how late or early in the morning it was.
There really was no downside to consider re: the area and the apartment. We found that a lot of the tour companies regard the area as too far away to schedule a pick up and so you will have to find your own way to their hub (which isn't an issue since there are lots of cab stands). Be aware that the apartment has no living room and each of the windows face an autobody shop that opens in the 6am hour, closes late and stays nice and busy (a little loud) most of the time. The pictures posted on AirBnB are completely accurate. I had never in my previous travels come across an apartment that was strictly a kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. On our lazy days we would end up spending a lot of time sitting in the kitchen and the chairs were not very comfortable for long periods of time (but hey, who goes to such a beautiful city to sit in the house all day!).
The only suggestion I would have for future short term renters like us is to arrange a specific date and time for the housekeeper to arrive. The first week we were told a certain time and date and she arrived much earlier than expected and we were not prepared to leave the house. We assumed she would arrive on this same day the following week. Instead she came one day earlier and at a different time again and so we were once again unprepared to leave the house. These issues were no big deal, but we did feel bad making the housekeeper wait for us to quickly get ourselves together so that she could clean.
Overall, if you are looking for attentive hosts, a great price, slower pace, and the possibility of having your neighbors serenade the building with fun Italian songs than this is the place for you!
