Sonia & Gordon provided an excellent & highly recommended experience during my first Airbnb stay ever!! I was mountain biking in the area so was not sure of my travel times & they were flexible with arrival time. The room was spacious & comfortable. All the guest amentities, towels etc were of high quality. Decor was inviting & homely. After settling in, it was nice to sit down for a chat about our travels for a while. Afterwards, I made the short walk to Hotel Canobolas which has great food, live music & a diverse range of patrons. The sleep in next morning was also greatly appreciated before more mountain biking.

We had a wonderful night staying with Sonia and Gordon. From the glass of red on arrival to lots of recommendations for our short stay in Orange, it was a lovely experience. The location was great too, easy to walk everywhere we wanted to go.

Gordon & Sonia have been the wonderful host. Other than giving us all sorts of recommendations and made us feel like home, they always make sure that we were warm enough in the cold winter. They have made us like Orange very much and will definitely come again to visit!

Sonia and Gordon were really warm and accommodating from the get go - thanks guys! They gave me heaps of local advice on what I could do in town and even called a couple of the pubs to try to hunt down some live music for me. Gordon was so nice and took a break from his studies to do a quick tour through the town centre to help orient me to the nightlife and then dropped me off at a bar. I really appreciated how flexible they were about when I arrived and departed. They were both really open and I genuinely felt like it was a home away from home. They were very prompt with messaging me back so I always felt that a helping hand was available if I needed it. Their house is cute, clean and (most importantly with the colder months) warm - there's even an electric blanket! It's really close to the town centre which was the real winner for me. Thanks again for your terrific hospitality and welcoming me into your home!

We took a year off to volunteer in Tonga from March 2013 to March 2014... But now we are back!

My husband Gordon and I have lived in Orange for over 25 years. We enjoy travelling and have been active members of the hospitality club and SERVAS so enjoy meeting people and opening our home to visitors. We are not a B&B or a hotel... but we like to think we are offering a cozy, friendly local homestay experience.
I used to be a secondary school art teacher (many moons ago) but now work within the rural community space that includes a rural women's network, a farmer resilience program and a young farmer business program run through the NSW Department of Primary Industries.
It is the most wonderful job which is probably why I have stayed for over 20 years!
Gordon, my husband used to be a chef but reclaimed his life over a decade ago and now works for a Federal government department.
Our house is within walking distance of the centre of town (10-15 minutes easy walk) and there is a lovely leafy indoor/outdoor cafe (Nile Street Cafe) only 5 doors up the street... and another excellent coffee haunt called Bills Beans on McLachlan Street which is a 5-6 minute easy walk. Zest restaurant is two blocks away and another restaurant called Charred is within walking distance too.
There is a small commercial gallery called The Corner Store on the way to Bills Beans so it is a lovely neighbourhood for a weekend stroll.
We only have one large bathroom (bath with shower over it) you will share with us... but there is a second toilet.
Our guest room is very comfortable. It has a double bed with electric blanket for those snowy evenings we sometimes get and there are books on the shelf if you get the urge as well as free WIFI.
Our wide street is very quiet (zero cost parking on the street in front of our house). We have a lovely backyard and outdoor sitting area.
There are a couple of living/sitting/reclining/lounging areas and I do enjoy a game of scrabble with anyone willing to play with me!
We spent a month volunteering in Peru in 2009 and after our year in Tonga hope to do more of this in the future.
We are both in our mid 50s enjoy art, theatre, music and the food/wine delights of the wonderful Orange region.
We hope to have you as our guest sometime soon!
Our house has central heating and we often light the wood fire so it is always warm and snug.
We can recommend the best cafes and restaurants for great regional produce and coffee among the many available in and around town... And of course the wonderful wineries where you can taste local wines if that is your interest!
The shopping is pretty good here too and our regional gallery has great exhibitions. There is also a lovely botanic gardens, a lake out of town, Mount Canobolas to go hiking and some good cycleways.
We don't really provide breakfast as we found most people like to try the local cafes but please know that there is always tea and coffee available to our guests as well as bread and spreads for toast if you care to help yourself.
