About this listing
We love our flat, which we’ve spent a lot of time renovating and decorating just the way we want it. We’re there as often as we can get over from London but when we’re not, it’s available as a perfect base for visitors to Prenzlauer Berg and Berlin.
The flat is in a beautiful late 19th Century Altbau whose exterior we fell in love with when we first saw it. Our friend, an interiors journalist and stylist (see the "yourhomeislovely" blog), helped us renovate it in what we think is the perfect mix of Berlin “Ostalgia” and a laid back modern style. We have all the amenities you could want including a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge/freezer, induction electric hob and cooker, but we hope you also enjoy the quirkier finds from our many trips to the local flohmarkts in Mauerpark and Arkonaplatz. The flat is lovely and warm in winter thanks to the building’s communal central heating, and in summer there is an outside balcony with tables and chairs where you can relax in the Berlin sun!
Transport links are fantastic. Eberswalder Strasse U-Bahn is 3 minutes walk, with the U2 connecting to Alexanderplatz in 3 stops. The M10 and M1 trams also run from outside the station and there’s a taxi rank around the corner from where you can get to Tegel Airport in about 20 minutes. We’re right opposite the beautiful Kulturbrauerei which offers everything from a large supermarket (REWE) for all your grocery essentials, to an art house cinema, 2 theatre groups, a dance company, music gig venues, bars and clubs. Kastanienallee and Oderberger Strasse with all their great independent design shops and cafés are a stones throw away. Sredzkistrasse across the road has some of our favourite cafés and restaurants. We’ll provide you with a full list of our favourite recommendations of things to see and do in the area. We hope you find the time to explore it; it really is wonderful!
Bert, a friend of ours (who helped us with a lot of the hard work, decorating and renovating the flat, and so knows it even better than we do!), will be your contact in Berlin. He lives around the corner and will be there for the simple stuff like handing over the keys, orientating you around the flat, answering any questions you may have, and dealing with any problems should they arise. He’s also been a local resident for many years and is a great source of information on many subjects, especially the hottest art exhibitions in Berlin.
Other Things to Note
Final prices including accommodation tax ("City Tax" since 1st January 2014).
Please enjoy the apartment as if it's your own, but please treat it with the same respect. Please don't smoke when in the apartment. We would prefer if you could leave the place clean as we also use it when we're in Berlin, and would really appreciate if you could not party too much and not party late. The rest of the residents in the block are my neighbours, some of whom are elderly, and they appreciate getting a good sleep! Please don't use the internet access to download anything illegally as this is monitored and penalised extremely harshly by the German authorities!
About the Host, Alun
Hi I'm Alun. My partner Sham and I live in London but love Berlin and spend as much time there as we can. I work in media advisory/investment and luckily that gives me excuses to spend time working in Berlin as well. Our biggest passion is music...so London and Berlin are perfect places to spend time! We're airbnb users ourselves so love to welcome you to our place.
