The space

Ours is a three-story condo in the Faubourg Marigny, voted one of the ten best neighborhoods in America. There are 3 coffee shops within a two-block area; Frenchmen St. (the locals' Bourbon) with clubs and restaurants is a ten-minute walk and the French Quarter five minutes further. Jazz Fest is a straight shot down Esplanade Avenue and an hour's walk if you don't want to deal with car or cab.

Our condo is over a hundred-years-old with 12-foot ceilings, balcony, hardwood floors, stone fireplaces and brick walls but was totally remodeled after Katrina. From the double-doored (total security) entry, the stairs lead to the main floor, consisting of a large living room with balcony, dining room which seats 6, kitchen, library with Pottery Barn queen sleeper sofa, and 1 1/2 baths. The huge Master Bedroom and bath are on the third floor with king-size brass bed, skylights, and a window with view of the city skyline. Washer/dryer and off-street parking.

Loved, loved, loved the townhouse. Beautifully decorated and perfectly located. Equidistant to the touristy charms of the French Quarter and the hipster-y charms of Bywater. This was a long-term rental (3 months), and it was important to us to have a place that felt homey and comfortable, and was conducive to working from home. I was a bit concerned that the elegant decor would preclude practicality and comfort, but the townhouse had the ideal combination for us. Janet was very responsive when we had questions and concerns. The master bedroom suite was amazing and the den with sofa bed made a lovely (and private) guest room with attached bath.

Janet was a great host. She set up the place fantastically and was very welcoming. Whenever I had an issue, she dealt with it quickly. The only issues with the place were: The internet was incredibly slow. I've heard this is an issue for most of New Orleans. Was a real pain as I did a lot of my work at night over a server connection and so video was slow. The TV in the downstairs library had cable that would go in and out. Again, I didn't watch that much TV, but the few times I did the quality wasn't great. The upstairs bedroom has no curtains on the large bay window. Several times I worked nights and so not having a way to black out the sun meant I didn't get a ton of sleep. These issues aside, it was a great place and I loved the location. A couple of cool places to walk to and close the Frenchman and the Quarter.

Janet's listing is absolutely fabulous and I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a genuine New Orleans experience. It's close enough to walk to the quarter, but just far enough away to be quiet in the evening. The neighborhood was filled with local coffee houses, restaurants and points of interest. Janet was a gracious host and promptly answered any questions we had in regards to the listing or neighborhood.

A flawless experience in a gorgeous home. Janet's place is beyond amazing: gorgeous, meticulously furnished and maintained, unique and artistic (and literary too - what a great book collection she has!). The Marigny location is wonderful - an easy walk to Frenchmen's St. (and our now-favorite place to see music, The Spotted Cat), a slightly further stroll to the Quarter. We fell in love with New Orleans, and especially adored exploring this off-the-beaten path, quiet neighborhood. We would not hesitate to stay here again the next time we visit NOLA: highly recommend this stunning townhouse!

Cannot begin to describe how great this property and the owners are. Met Janet ahead of time to pick up the key, and she showed me around the place - she was incredibly friendly and accomodating. Her husband was out buying supplies to stock the fridge for our arrival. The place is incredibly beautiful. We had 3 people and had more than enough space for everyone. Perfect location, especially for exploring the less touristy parts of Nola. Walk to Markey's and the Country Club in the Bywater, or walk to Frenchman Street, or hang out in the neighborhood bars all over Marigny. Still close enough to the FQ to walk though! Incredibly diverse area - all walks of life and accepting of everyone. Great for entertaining. Nothing beats morning coffee on the balcony. Cannot wait to stay again.

Had a lovely, seamless stay. The place is beautiful and conveniently located. Photos do not do it justice. We had 4 people stay very comfortably. The Marigny is my absolute favorite neighborhood in the whole city.

I am a Professor of English and my husband owns an employee-benefits firm. Our weekday/workaday world is in the northern part of the state while our weekend/wonderful world is in New Orleans, our favorite of all cities. The love must be contagious as two of our children, both lawyers, have relocated there. Seldom do we use the car as days consist of exercise along the river and strolling the French Quarter while nights feature a neighborhood restaurant, music on Frenchmen Street, theatre at Southern Rep, or movie at Canal Place.

Still, we love to travel, one of our favorite destinations having been Egypt before the turmoil. Since we met in NYC, we make regular pilgrimages and pretend to be tourists. It's that feeling of being local that we hope our New Orleans condo inspires in our guests.

Laissez les bon temps rouler!
