Interaction with Guests
I am here most days and we have a full time staff to take care of guests and help them to feel at home.
Don't leave Thailand without seeing the local lifestyle and natural beauty of the Thai country side, its the best part!.
If you are on a budget you can save a lot of money by renting a motor bike or scooter. The roads are good and you can check out the surrounding villages.
Elephants are powerful wild animals. In the interest of safety please only approach an elephant when accompanied by a mahout.
Smoking: is allowed in outdoor spaces but not inside the rooms. We ask that you help take care of our little slice of paradise by placing trash in the proper receptacles and cigarettes in designated ashtrays.
My partner and I stayed at chai Lai orchard for 4 days and we had the most amazing stay. A taxi from the airport to the accommodation can be pre arranged and so there is little hassle on arrival. The bungalow which we stayed in was basic but lovely. The fan was sufficient for the heat and the bed was comfortable. The staff here are wonderful and they can't do enough to help you! The volunteers are also wonderful and it's very nice to have English speaking people to be able to sort out activities. The grounds are amazing and it is such a beautiful and peaceful place to stay. The food served in the cafe is wonderful and we enjoyed trying lots of Thai dishes. We managed to organise a elephant experience day where we got to bathe a baby elephant and then ride an adult elephant through the jungle. The experience was reasonably priced and would highly recommend it. Amazing stay and would recommend to anyone looking to have a peaceful stay and to enjoy some elephants!
Un endroit magnifique et authentique au milieu des éléphants et de la forêt.
Un personnel souriant et attentionné. L'approche avec les éléphants est inoubliable.
Un guide au top pour le trek , merci à Sing !!
Gros bisous à toute l'équipe!

We loved absolutely everything about our stay! The staff, the elephants, all of the available activities, the food (really amazing) and the laid back attitude. We only regret not being able to stay longer!
What an amazing spot and what a great cause. Alexa helped us with questions and provided a terrific relaxing spot. The restaurant was yummy and watching the elephants was wonderful. There are excursions offered and things to do but the place is far from town so be ready to chill. I suggest changing money beforehand if you don't prefer credit as we learned money exchanges are not convenient. Alexa is truely doing a great thing helping women and her efforts show in her happy employees and lovely relaxing escape. Thank you Alexa!
The overall experience is pretty amazing. It is quite unique to be so close to elephants. The staff at the restaurant are all polite, friendly, and accommodating.
Alexa, though, was very disinterested and disengaged. She did not talk to the guests, and seemed like she did not care about your experience. I was having difficulty paying for my stay. While her staff worked very hard to assist, she was very cool to the point of being rude.
Since our contact with her was limited, her attitude only minimally impacted our stay.
Very charming place. First, the good: the staff was lovely and always ready to help. Our room was small but clean and the bug net was pretty efficient at keeping unwanted critters out of the bed. My friend and I went on a 6 hour hike through the surrounding area with Poe as our guide. It was a fun hike win great views and he was very amiable. The food was always good and it was peaceful to eat and read by the river while the dogs, chickens, and goats wandered about. We were also taken to feed and let some elephants without being charged (we felt uncomfortable riding the elephants for both moral and safety reasons). It was a highlight of the trip. The biggest issue we had was with miscommunication. We arranged our ride to the airport through Chai Lai and were surprised to be picked up in a open-back truck. The drive was over an hour long, on the freeway at night. We felt unsafe and ended up asking the driver to pull over so we could sit in front with him. It would have been helpful to know this was the kind of ride we had arranged. That being said, the staff happily arranged for a real taxi to drive us to our next destination. We were confused about the connection to the elephant camp nearby, which had terrible reviews online. It seemed many if not all elephant related activities involved this camp, which was not totally clear from the Chai Lai website in my opinion. Overall, though, we loved our stay and have already recommended Chai Lai to our friends.
We were not exactly sure what to expect considering we are not exactly the rugged type who do a lot of camping or staying outdoors. Staying here was the perfect blend or luxury and rustic.
Our hut was very clean and had an attached bathroom with a very comfortable bed. It was very quaint and had everything that we needed.
You likely found this place because of the Elephants... I know we did. WORTH EVERY PENNY!! They are cared for very well. We wanted to ensure that we got the elephant experience but also know that they are cared for properly. They are loved like pet owners love their animals and are cared for with lots of love. Very pleased to see that!
Do yourself a favor and take advantage of their activities. One thing to note is that this is not your typical hotel stay. It took us a bit of getting use to but to order anything (food, drinks, activities, etc.) simply let someone of the staff know. They keep a running tab of your orders in a book by room and you settle up in the end. It was really that simple. Prices maybe slightly higher here than anywhere else in Chiang Mai but still WAY cheaper than prices that you would pay anywhere else in the world for these type of activities. It is also important to consider what is being done here to help the people and animals of this area. Again, very pleased!
We did the Amazing Mountain Adventure while we were their. It was an all day activity starting with riding elephants, hiking, learning about the terrain, swimming in waterfalls, a lunch provided by our guide (super delicious), learning about the Mae Wang villagers and customs, a bamboo ride, and ending with bathing a baby elephant. I don't think I stopped smiling all day. Great fun, educational, and we met some great people along the way.
We did meet Alexa during our stay and she was very kind and helpful. She has a genuine care for the people and culture of this area and it shows.
If you are looking to get away from the rat race and stay somewhere peaceful and serene with your not so everyday activities... This is your place. We are so glad that we stayed here.
