Do you need a comfortable place to stay for a few months in NYC? This is the spot! Located just three blocks from the subway, minutes from Columbia University, and 25 minutes from midtown, this is the perfect home away from home.
One bedroom with a double bed, dresser, closet, and a desk. It's not large, but plenty livable. You are sharing the apartment with me and no more than two other guests.
There is free wireless Internet. Sheets and towels are provided, and there is a paid laundromat on the commercial floor of the building.
You have full access to the kitchen, with a variety of coffee and tea drinks. The living room is also freely available - the TV has basic channels, Netflix, and a DVD/Blue-ray player.
Interaction with Guests
I, personally, am not the most outgoing person, so I will generally let you be. But I'm more than happy to help you with any questions about NYC. I live here full-time, so any problems are immediately taken care of.
The official neighborhood name is "Hamilton Heights" and is located in upper west Manhattan. It's an active residential neighborhood that is safe at all times, even late at night. While rapidly gentrifying, Hamilton Heights is still a predominately Dominican neighborhood, and you'll hear as much Spanish as English.
There are a growing number of places to eat and drink, with some very good food. Like any good city neighborhood, you can find 95% of what you need within a few blocks. The subway is located just three blocks away.
A three block walk to the 1 subway train, followed by a 20 minute ride lands you in Times Square, with easy access to the entire west side of Manhattan - Lincoln Center, Central Park, Rockefeller Center, the West Village, and the World Trade Center. From Times Square you can transfer to almost every train in the system.
Other Things to Note
I'm in my mid 30's, formerly an IT consultant turned theatrical stagehand, and have lived here for over 11 years. The two guest bedrooms are at one end of the apartment, my room is at the opposite end of the apartment from your rooms, giving you privacy. We do share the living room, kitchen and bathroom.
Lastly, because of the extended length of stay, PLEASE have a completed Airbnb profile, with a real picture, verified IDs, (website hidden) link, etc. I need to know you're who you say you are!
Please no smoking or candles.
No drug use allowed.
Lost keys are $30 per set.
You can come and go as you wish, I only ask that if you come home late at night you minimize use of the kitchen light and cooking - the lights and smell wake me up. The noise I don't care about (do be aware the hallway floors are creaky).
Pillows, sheets and towels are provided. For extended stays, laundry of these items will be your responsibility.
I stayed at Michaels place for 2 months and enjoyed it very much! The place is as advertised and previous ratings tell the story. You can tell Michael is an experienced airbnb host, he was very helpful and attentive to travelers wishes (he even has a whole library of New York guide books previous travellers left behind)! He communicated very well and was always fast to respond. The bedroom is spacious and the livingroom (with netflix :) a nice place to relax and have a chat. The apartment looks out on a quiet street, but with bustling Broadway around the corner you're just steps away from restaurants, grocery stores and less than 5 min walk from the subway. The neighborhood is mainly Central American-oriented (I can recommend restaurant Flor-de-Broadway) but gentrifying with new restaurants and bars opening every month (try Anchor and Geisha!).
Michael was a great host. He let me go about my business but was there and helpful whenever I needed anything, had questions, fell ill, etc. I can recommend staying at his place. Supermarkets are nearby, the pharmacy and subway are less than three blocks away, and the 1 train takes you downtown. The room looks just like in the pictures, I had plenty room to store my belongings and could use the kitchen every day which was very convenient and not a given with other airbnb accomodations.
A great place for anyone spending time in Manhattan. Mike is a great, friendly host who is available but also gives you absolute privacy. The location is phenomenal. There are a variety of eating and shopping options a short walk away. My wife and I stayed with Mike for two months and would gladly go back.
Michael's place is an incredible deal for Manhattan. The room was larger than expected, and was plenty of room for my boyfriend and I. Sharing the bathroom was not a problem at all, as it was kept very clean. Conveniently located near the Subway, it was easy to explore all of Manhattan and Brooklyn from Michael's place. As a host, Michael is very kind, generous, easy to get along with, and a great person- highly recommend if you need a clean, convenient, and cheap place to stay!
We stayed two times at Michaels apartment. First time in room (a) second time in room (b). We enjoyed his location:
- beds are comfortable
- everything was clean
- enough space for us
- everything was as described
- subway is 3 blocks away
Michael is a reliable and a quiet person. As we haven't seen Michael often. He organized everything in advanced which worked absolutely fine.
Michael was a great host. The apartment is really cozy, clean and it has all the facilities you need. The location is awesome, just 2 blocks from the subway and 12 - 15 minutes to all Manhattan attractions, also is a safe neighborhood.
No tuvimos ningun inconveniente.
Great stay at the end of a long journey - exactly how it was advertised. Very accommodating to our travel schedule also, thanks Michael

I'm in my mid-thirties and have lived in this apartment for over 10 years (that's a long time, by NYC standards!). I became an AirBnB host after losing my job, and have now been hosting for 2 1/2 years while in school for a career change. It's been great meeting everyone on here!
I used to work as an IT consultant for a small company, specializing in network and server administration. Now, I'm studying to work in entertainment technology (think Broadway, concerts, etc). For fun I enjoy hiking, camping, playing casual league sports (flag football, soccer, kickball, etc). And of course the huge variety of events in NYC.
