Mamen was always warm and helpful. I came back home feeling I had met and made a wonderful friend. Her children were adorable, and fun to play with and made me feel right at home, too. One could not ask any more from the neighborhood, either. The house was secluded at the end of a cup-de-sac, yet right down the driveway was a neighborhood park where children played all the time. The pictures were accurate, except that they don't show the effect of the drought, which is turning everything in the state from green to brown.
I absolutely will come back again to Mamen's house when I stay in Monterey.
The room was exactly as described--very spacious, clean, lots of closet space. The bathroom is not connected but is adjacent to the room and has a nice rainfall shower. The breakfast tray was a nice touch! I didn't get to meet Mamen but would love to stay there again on my next trip to Monterey.

The room is great for the price. The bed, while not the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in, was clean and adequate; If you are taking a road trip you may want to bring your own pillows for more comfort. There is a private entrance which was very nice as we could come and go as we please without any awkward interactions. The room was very clean, so was the bathroom.
Overall I would definitely stay again for a short 2 or 3 day trip. The neighborhood is very safe. Bring earplugs if you are a late sleeper as the kitchen is right next to the room, a quick trip to Walgreens and this wasn't an issue. Mamen's kids are the sweetest little girls imaginable, and this comes from someone who normally dislikes children; our short interaction with them was definitely a highlight!
We showed up and had a bit of a time determining where to park and what entrance to use. But, Mamen came out to save us! We made ourselves at home upstairs and quickly went back out to Monterey and the Big Sur area.
This house is in a very quiet neighborhood not far from Monterey (the house is actually right on the border of Monterey in a town called Seaside), and a quick 5-10 minute drive will have you on the docks of Monterey. We decided to skip the peninsula and head right to Bixby Bridge and the rest of the Big Sur. This is a great spot to stop and take in the sights, then return for a hot shower and comfortable bed.
The room was as pictured and Mamen provided a few snacks and tea. The bathroom was right next to the bedroom, but there was only one towel in our room. I would have asked for another but we weren't at the house all day and didn't want to disturb Mamen at night.
We were provided a key. But we were unsure what the key was for. It was left on our bed but there was no lock for the patio door and the upstairs "front" entrance didn't open with the key given to us. We didn't really need a key! Just left the patio door unlocked until we got back from our day adventure. It is very secluded and I wasn't worried about anything happening while we were away.
Overall, a great stay! And very affordable considering the area.
