About this listing

This Florida Waterfront Sanctuary is like stepping into the tropical garden of Eden. Our little island just offshore is a protected bird sanctuary, with an abundance of exotic species year round. Close your eyes, relax, and float downstream.

The space

April, 2017 updates complete (pics/video new). Enjoy the sunrise AND the sunsets over gorgeous Cedar Lake. Two bedroom/two bath plus Florida room. This is a simple and modest home - but we feel the location is hard to beat. Minutes from the gulf, you are at end of a cul de sac and on the point of Cedar Point Drive. Water views from from the east, south, and west. Prime fishing off of our private dock, or grab a rod and hop in one of our kayaks to explore Cedar Lake's many channels. If you head into the gulf, please use our CLEAR BOTTOMED KAYAK! You won't be disappointed. In ground kidney-shaped pool (with lanai).

Special (by pre-arrangement only): Electric Scooter. No motorcycle endorsement required. For local use. Ride safe.

52" and 42" HDTVs w/DVD with 1000s of movies and channels via Roku, but c'mon, who wants to watch TV at this sanctuary? Fully appointed kitchen. Linens and towels provided. Secure 1/4 acre fenced in lakefront yard - perfect for your well-behaved pet, with pet-doors installed to the lanai, Florida room, and garage area. We do ask that pets be well behaved, housebroken, and kept off of the furniture.

The island (yes, a small island) directly off of our waterfront is a protected rookery - teeming with exotic and endangered birds year round. The sounds created are mesmerizing, and deeply therapeutic. You will return year after year for the birds alone. Among the endangered species you will see are Everglade Snail Kite, Audubon's Crested Caracara, Piping Plover, Florida Scrub-jay, Wood Stork, Red-cockaded Woodpecker, and if you get lucky, the occasional otter has been known to visit. Take the kayaks out to the island... but please try not to disturb any of the area's reported 140 species.

Pool and lawn service included. Cable/high-speed internet included. The bikes and kayaks are included without additional charge, we only ask that you be safe and use them with great care. Please satellite map the location - the setting will speak for itself. Try zooming in on the island to spot the birds. Imagine the sounds...

Green Key Beach on the gulf is a bike ride away, whether you're alone or with your honey, this hidden gem offers a multitude of possibilities for relaxation, solitude and fun. The most obvious choice, of course, is soaking up some rays, taking a swim or walking hand-in-hand along the shore. But keep the stroll going and a 650 feet boardwalk that snakes through the mangroves will lead you to a two-story observation deck overlooking the water. This is perhaps the most serene spot of all because it's far enough away to escape what can be a busy beach.

Explore the Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park on our included bikes. The park's multi-purpose trail consists of 7.3 miles of paved surface for bike riding, roller blading, jogging or walking and it connects to the Suncoast Trail (42 miles). There is a 10 mile equestrian trail and 13 miles of hiking trails.

Right down the road is New Port Richey's best kept secret: the James E. Grey Preserve. These 80 acres boast over 140 species of birds, and some of the best kayaking in Florida. The park is the end of a Florida Canoe Trail that runs from Frances Park 4.5 mile down the river. The river runs slow but has many hairpin turns that will be challenging for the beginner but navigable. This section is very scenic with practically no development along the shores of the river. Visitors can also kayak through the canals of the preserve, which has natural Florida ecosystems, hardwood hammock uplands and swamps.

Oh, and did we mention the birds?

Overall a good stay and what we expected for the rate we paid. Pool was well maintained and fun to play in with the kids. Very pet friendly. The house is located in a very quiet neighborhood, relatively close to stores. The host is very responsive to any questions or concerns. If its hot outside in the 90's the house will be hot inside. After an HVAC tech visit the inside was averaging around 83 degrees inside on hot days. If you like your place in the upper 70's beware. If you plan to work or have multiple devices on the wifi don't. It speed tested at anywhere from .5-2mbps. For example maps satellite views took 5-10 seconds to load each. You will likely have to take the previous AIRBNB'ers trash out to the street due to when trash days are at the house. The cleaning crew does not take the trash with them. Not a big deal but when paying a $90 cleaning fee its something to consider.

Beautiful view of the water and fishing from the dock, and the place was pretty much as described. Loved having the kayaks available, hearing the bird calls, waking to the glorious views. Fairly well-equipped kitchen for basic needs. Unfortunately, when we arrived, the house was tidy and looked clean but the floors were not cleaned well-- within a short time our crawling baby's clothes were stained dark. Overall, a good experience and if it weren't for the floors it would have had 5 stars.

The setting was great, on a small lake with a nice view, kayaks and bikes in good shape. The house itself could use some attention: minor repairs, better sheets, some improvements in the kitchen equipment and furniture.

I'm the clinical director of a counseling non-profit, The Packard Institute, Inc., that has been bringing young souls to the gulf since 1992. We feel we offer a unique and therapeutic setting that lends itself to deep healing.
