About this listing
Our place is in an historic brick 1860s warehouse building; high ceilings, brick walls. 2 Full baths 1 upstairs, 1 down. Cal King bed upstairs, sofa beds downstairs in living rm. Not much privacy: loft-style setting, open mezz. Perfect for couple.
Our brick loft has 16' ceilings, brick walls, upstairs bedroom/bath and downstairs sofa bed and second bathroom.
Minimum rental: one month, due to HOA rules.
Newly remodelled kitchen with new dishwasher, new electric stove/oven, and 2 new baths (one en suite upstairs, one downstairs for guests.) 1400 sq ft. Downstairs bath has new jetted jacuzzi tub. Upstairs large glass shower. This is an open loft style flat. We are renting it out for the summer as a complete, entire flat. there really isn't a ton of privacy, as the upstairs bedroom walls do not go up to the ceiling, so you can hear whatever is happening in the living rm/second bedroom below. the loft is perfect for a couple (upstairs), or 2 couples (one upstairs, one down) who know each other very well, or a family. There is a washer also available. No dryer. Line dry.
2 blocks from Universal Cafe, Atlas Cafe, Blowfish Sushi, Flour + Water, Asiento tapas bar, and tons more restaurants, from low cost Latin and Asian cuisine cafes to high-end gourmet 5***** gastronomic delights.
3 blocks to a free gym with racquetball, basketball, soccer and weight machines at Mission Rec and Park center. 5 blocks to the community swimming pool. Located in the sunny Mission district. #27 bus on corner to downtown. BART and/or SamTrans to SFO walking distance. MUNI within a few blocks to everywhere.
Sorry, no pets. Absolutely no smoking on premises.
In compliance with local laws, we will only rent for a minimum of 1 month.
Most of the reviews listed are of our other properties. We moved, so now are in a different location (now in the sunny, flat, public transportation friendly mission district.)
Please, if you are interested, fill out the profile and add a photo so i know something about you. opening our home to strangers is a bit scarey, so a profile and recommendations helps. thanks. per airbnb rules, guests are responsible for maintaining the premises in the same condition as when moved in, and are responsible for all "covered property." please treat our home as your own, and clean up after yourselves (ie, take trash and recycling out, wash your dishes....
Absolutely, no smoking on premises. Also, there is only one small electric heater, which we have never used. The flat stays pretty comfortably 60-70F all year round. We have tons of comforters and flannel sheets, but don't have central heating.
Please describe yourselves, and your guests/family members.
Great neighborhood. Fantastic food everywhere close by/walking distance.

Spike's loft was a great place to stay at while visiting San Francisco. Their loft is in a great part of the Mission, my wife and I felt very safe while we slept. Public transportation was close by, with a bus stop on the corner, and BART (subway) was just a short walk away. Spike was very accessible both before and during our stay, even though she was out of town. Any questions that we had were quickly answered, which is an often over-looked attribute of a host. We would gladly rent again with Spike!
Very cool apartment in hip and trendy Mission district of San Francisco - safe, quiet with some lovely spots to dine out just a few steps away. Easy 30-40 mins walk into downtown area but lots to see en route. Otherwise number 27 bus is so handy and regular - literally 30 seconds walk from front door.
Great base to explore the many diverse areas of SF and a very quiet apartment with everything one needs to have a great time in SF.
Didn't meet Spike as she is on travels of her own but very communicative via email with lots of advice on any queries I had.
All in all great memories and very easy to get on with (website hidden) - the bed is very comfy!
Great neighbourhood for us. Minutes from the heart of the Mission. The space itself is beautiful. The heated toilet seats are great, especially because we found the space to be quite chilly, which is likely only a problem in the winter months. Also, perfect for 2 people, there is really no privacy for 2 couples, which was fine for the four of us as we are all pretty relaxed about peeing and stuff (the upstairs washroom is open-concept, which I loved as a design feature but if any of your party is at all uptight, they might find the lack of privacy to be a bit challenging.) However, it's very affordable for how awesome it is in other ways (like location, building). I would stay here again.
Stay at Spike's loft only if you want a more challenging experience.
The neighborhood is gritty and crime-ridden and far from the fun commercial area of Valencia Street; walking around at night is not recommended. And isn't walking around at night one of the great joys of traveling?
If you like smooth sheets you won't find them here (only rough old flannel ones). If you want to use the kitchen, it's very primitive - camping level equipment, and no dishwasher.
The place is labeled as "wheelchair accessible", but the only table is bar-height, and the kitchen is much too small to accommodate a wheelchair.
As many other reviewers mention, it's only one room, so if you're sharing the space, there's no privacy at all.
Spike's written instructions are long and rambly; we never figured out where to put the recycling etc., so we carefully gathered and separated everything the way the city likes it, and left separated bags for the housecleaner. I felt bad about that, but we were all otherwise happy to get out of there.
But the place is full of art, and there's a tv and music! Those are strong points.
Our loft space is in a wonderful neighborhood, and Susan, who apparently
didn't like my honest review of her stay with us, seems bent on retaliating
with this negative review. We are a bit away
from the commercial area of the Mission, which makes for a quieter
neighborhood, but still close enough to walk to the multitude of nice
restaurants all within 3 blocks of our home (Slow Club, Universal Cafe,
Blowfish Sushi, Flour and Water) or, spend an evening at the Jay and Bee, a
local pub on the corner, serving handmade pizza and salads, with a pool
table and full bar, or a block away: Asiento, a tapas/cocktails place.
Her other "complaints": camping level kitchen? Our newly remodeled kitchen
is full-service with 6 cabinets full of kitchenware and appliances, All
Clad pots/pans, full oven and stove, large refrigerator; see the photos and
judge for yourself. Didn't like our flannel sheets (she was here in
winter) she could have used any of the other clean sheet sets we have on
the shelf. We usually have bar level counters in the dining area, but we
brought in a wheelchair height table for her daughter (who uses a chair) to
use at Susan's request. Susan inspected our place twice prior to renting
it. She lives in San Francisco, so knows the neighborhood. I don't know
why she rented from us if she were uncomfortable walking around this
wonderful neighborhood at night.
Spike and Rodney have a really nice studio nicely located. The flat is near the lively 24th street and close to bus lines as well as the BART making the rest of city accessible.
Rodney is very nice and help us with our search for apartments in city by suggesting neighbourhoods.
The only downside to this beautiful studio is the lack of privacy. The room is on the mezzanine, which keeps you out of sight, but isn't a match for a real bedroom.
Host was very flexible when we wanted to shorten our already-booked stay. The place is very pretty and in a terrific location! Two thumbs up :)
