The space

Casa Luna is a seaside residence located in a private, enclosed compound about 80-90 yards behind Playa LaRopa beach. Playa LaRopa beach is the best of the four beautiful beach's contained within the bay of Zihuatanejo, Mexico.

The house is surrounded by a spectacular, one acre tropical garden. Casa Luna was designed to blend the best qualities of living in a traditional Mexican countryside villa, together with the open air feeling found in the native seaside tropical dwellings.

The result is a huge, soaring parabolic style roof, comprised of woven thatch and hand hewn hardwoods; suspended above adobe walled rooms trimmed in hand painted tile. The design produces a simultaneous indoor/outdoor effect that captures the sea breezes from nearby Playa LaRopa, affording views of the surrounding gardens from every room; while still allowing for privacy and climate control in individual sleeping quarters. The interior is decorated with country style antiques, Mexican crafts and a sprinkling of intimate works of art left behind by visiting artists.

Best place on Playa La Ropa! All the comforts of home with bonus Mexican culture. The property is spacious, gorgeous, and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful and a pool welcomes you after a long hot day on the beach. The kitchen is amazing - fully stocked and authentic. Patsy was a kind and gracious host who ensured that our stay was perfect! From restaurant recommendations to snorkel trip, she was a wealth of information. Every day, Amalia would come clean the villa from top to bottom. Patsy recommended that we engage her to cook for us which was the best decision of our visit. We had the tastiest, authentic Mexican food cooked by Amalia in the beautiful kitchen. After one meal we were hooked! We asked her to cook the rest of our dinners, each better than the last. She was so sweet and so pleased to see us enjoying her home-cooked meals. We would highly recommend her cooking talents for the duration of your stay as her cuisine exceeded any of the meals that we had in town. We will be back to Casa Luna! The Casa Luna is a a fantasy stay imbued with the soul and character of the owners. One immediately feels at home and is swept into a relax mode. One can stay on property and be pampered by the wonderful Amalia and Jorge who are on property daily. We had the grand luxury of having a chef for lunch daily, Santiago prepared scrumptious and local meals for us 8. The pool is a huge plus as over New Years the Playa la Ropa was packed daily. Higly recommend taking the short taxi ride to Playa Larga where there is a long wide empty beach with simple food possible. We did not need a car as taxi can be called and arrives ion 3 minutes. Highly enjoyable and perfect for one of our México first timers. Loved it!

Our three generation family enjoyed the garden, house, pool and location immensely. The public beach is minutes walk and it offers beachside restaurants, boats for hire, parasailing, perfect sunsets and more. This is an authentic architectural delight to live in. Truly an indoor-outdoor experience. There is an iguana on the property, butterflies and birds. The maid and gardener are very expert at their jobs and very friendly. Owner stayed on the property and was an excellent host but not a strong presence most of the time.

Casa La Luna. There's a different world behind that red gate. You are surrounded by flower bushes and fountains, fresh cut grass, yuccas and palm trees. There are hummingbirds, and the biggest butterflies I've ever seen. Down a trail at one end of the property we discovered the pool, all in blue tile. We were three friends traveling together, and we loved coming back to hop in the pool before bed time. In the middle of the garden we noticed how the house connected seamlessly with the air and the light—it sounds a bit much I know, but it really was something else. The lounge, dining room, kitchen, and bathrooms are all really charming. They are done in tile, wood, and straw, and are mostly in blue, green, white and brown. All the modern stuff—everything from fans to A/C to freezers, is there and available—not so visible, but ready when you need them. The bedrooms are self-contained units under the great wood and straw canopy. They are like ligate-controlled sanctuaries when you need them, for reading, napping or just cooling off between the events of your day. We really loved the kitchen. It feels like the one you wish you had—big, with a restaurant grade gas range, a big oven, a gas grill outside, ample counter space (learn to navigate the central market, and you can create great dishes for pennies on the dollar), and everything else you need. During our stay, we were pinching ourselves all the time: can you really get Casa Luna for the same money as three four-star hotel rooms? Turns out you can.

We had a fantastic time staying at Villa Casa Luna and would recommend it to those looking for an authentic, natural and relaxing Mexican getaway. The house is full of soul and style with authentic Mexican tiles, furniture and ambiance. Amalia (the caretaker) was there daily and helped with cleaning and dishes and was so kind to take me to the market on our first day to go shopping. The house has a fantastic kitchen (the owner is a chef) a great pool and is on its own lush and secure compound only 2 blocks to the beach. The open-air style house was fantastic especially during rainstorms and breezy days but it also allowed for insects and the odd crab or two to come in and hang out which wasn't an issue for us and our curious 4 year old but if your the type who likes air conditioned living quarters and a turn-down service then this probably wouldn't be right for you.

Casa Luna is not just a beautiful house in Zihuatanejo, it is a very special place. It's the product of years of love and caring, and you can feel it the minute you very first step in and smell the heavenly garden. Its delicate taste is palpable all around the house and you can feel there is a story behind every object and every flower. The place is very comfortable and relaxing as the sea breeze blows through a house with almost no walls. The kitchen is a major experience, it reminds me of my grandother's: enormous yet homey and with a very mexican feel to it. The beach is a three minute walk to Playa La Ropa, but if it gets too crowded for you, the pool in Casa Luna is just the right size, with the right atmosphere. I can't help but to feel that this place is a fine portrait of the people who built it and have taken care for it for fourty years. Patsy is the sweetest woman, she was an excellent host, and someone you could easily befriend. Casa Luna and Patsy are beautiful, interesting and moving.

I have been in the travel business for over 30 years in Zihuatanejo Mexico. I created and was the owner of Restaurant Coconuts for 30 years. I've had rental properties here for over 30 years also. Owned a wonderful gift shop called the Coco Cabana which was listed as one of the bet gift shops in Mexico by the guide books. Before coming to Mexico my husband was a renowned art dealer in Chicago and New York. Our last gallery was in soho New York. I am currently working of jewelry designs with real insects.
