This secluded woodland retreat is only 45 minutes from Charleston and area beaches. It is located in the african american Sampit community which is a part of the Gullah Geechee corridor. The historic port town of Georgetown is 15 minutes away and offers great restaurants, shopping and a beautiful harborwalk. This secluded property is surrounded by a 1000 acre tree farm and has lots of wildlife and small fish pond. The retreat is at the end of a paved road and has city water but no wi-fi or cable we do get a few local TV channels. 3 bedrooms and 2 baths make this home a perfect getaway from the hectic city life and offers the solitude to get back to nature that is so rare in todays busy lifestyle. The owners are using the property as a retreat and for growing fruit trees and flowers the fish pond offers a relaxing afternoon of fishing or enjoying a view on the deck. The huge oak tree next to the home is really beautiful and covered with spanish moss. The home is nicely furnished with clean baths and cosy beds the large kitchen and open floor plan make this a perfect home away from home.
The owners will meet guests to open driveway gate and turn on water and hot water heater.
This is a rural african american neighborhood with hardworking spiritual values.
No smoking inside or outdoor fires, small children and pets should be watched closely to prevent being lost in the woods or being too close to the pond.Insect repellent is advised during summer months.
Very quiet and comfortable location. Lots of space and much needed family time.
Paul was very accommodating and made for a smooth family trip. Snacks and cold beverages awaited us at the home.
Looking forward to checking out Paul's other rentals, as well!
Paul was an exceptional host and his retreat was everything we were looking for in a vacation rental. It was great to come back and play some pool or sit by the pond. Very comfortable beds and a nice collection of DVDs in case we got bored.
Paul was very flexible during the arrival of my crew and met them earlier than intended. They enjoyed the ample space for 4 people, the fishing pond, the condiments/spices/beer that were provided, and the pool table. One thing to note is that cell reception is a bit spotty out here, but that helps with the relaxed feel I guess!
Paul is a gracious and welcoming host, who very helpfully led the way to the location and also led back into town to demonstrate grocery shopping options. He was very easy to deal with before arrival and was responsive to calls during the visit.
The retreat is definitely secluded and peaceful. The dwelling has heat, Air Cond., kitchen with utensils etc, some books, a DVD player & some DVD's, and over-the-air TV. It is an older building, quite similar to what I would describe as a "family cottage", a kind of rustic feel. Just make sure you're OK with that (ie. it's not a "hotel style" at all).
One can fish in the small pond on the location. Just to note, there is no swimming in this pond. Location is surrounded by thick woods (apart from neighbours who live along the road in to the location, but they are not close, so as mentioned, it is for sure secluded).
Location is 1 hour from Charleston and about 45 minutes from Myrtle Beach.
Overall, a good quiet time in the woods in a cottage/cabin dwelling and a helpful, trustworthy host.
Paul was an excellent Host, provided us with great directions, gave us a clear tour of the house, made us feel welcomed and respected our privacy. We really enjoyed visiting the pond and feeding the cat fish. Paul's place was definitely like he described " a spiritual retreat" because being surrounded by the forest fulfilled our desire about nature. The property met the descriptions. The neighborhood was quite, Sampit was a good place to stay.
Paul is a gracious and informative host who works with your arrival time, ours changed by 2 hours and he was there to meet us. Very quiet and cozy house, we enjoyed feeding the fish and the seclusion. We also enjoyed playing pool the one day it rained. We would definitely stay here again.
