It is 100% up to the guests. We have had guest throughout the years that we have become great friends with, shared meals with and have come back again and again and others that would prefer to be left alone. It is very important to us to take the lead from the guest on interaction.
The Columbia River Gorge offers the best of outdoor activities including camping, hiking, biking, golf, whitewater rafting and kayaking, windsurfing and kiteboarding, boating, bird watching, photography, downhill and cross country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing – the list is endless. Indoor options are also readily available with world-class museums, wine tasting, superb dining opportunities, shopping and spa services. There is truly something for everyone in the Columbia River Gorge.
Just taking a drive through the Columbia River Gorge is an experience in itself as you will be in awe of this spectacular geological (website hidden) visit to the area is not complete without a visit to the breathtaking waterfalls.
The home sits on 3 aches with a stream on the property and a view of the Columbia river with territorial views of the Gorge.
Although we are only 1.7 miles away from Hwy 14 and the quaint town of Stevenson the retreat feels extremely remote because of the huge amount of trees and the lack of neighbors.
no public transit. Plenty of parking. Only 45 min from the airport.
Dog friendly. We love dogs! Our dogs are friendly and roam freely on the property.

We enjoyed our stay at Karen & Chris' house. The pictures don't do it justice!
We were able to check in early and and we came and went as we pleased. On our second day there we came home to cookies on the counter top and a very nice personal note. On our last day we were able to meet Karen and she gave us a plate of lemon squares for the road.
The fireplace was very nice and the view is to die for!! The bed and all the furniture were all comfortable and the shower was clean and the water was hot.
We only had one small snag, our 8 month old pug wouldn't stop barking at the three dogs that reside in the house above, but other than that we had a great time and plan to go back in the late summer.
Karen and Chris' place was just as described and I had a wonderful stay. I would definitely stay there again. The garden, views, and surrounding area are beautiful and inspiring. Very relaxing.
The long weekend at Karen and Chris's Retreat could not have been more perfect (ok maybe it would have been a little bit more perfect if the weather had been nice the entire time!).
The space is well appointed with every comfort you would need, including a very effective massage chair! They had all kinds of treats laid out, and even a pay-as-you-drink kegerator on the porch with local brews.
The small stream further down their property is great as well, complete with a cabana to lounge or picnic in while you listen to the water gurgle. We pretty much will not stay anywhere else when next we're back in the area. It's very close to great hiking, eating, running, and wine tasting options which are pretty much what we spent our time doing. And they have a TV with lots of streaming options for when you're decompressing from your adventures.
We didn't see anyone until we went over to say hi so you'll have your privacy, but Chris was incredibly welcoming and friendly so don't come and go without saying hello! :) Book with absolute confidence.
I've never stayed at a nicer place. The bed was comfy. The rooms were clean and beautiful. The gardens were wonderful. Everything was just right.
This was the perfect spot for a long weekend in an incredibly beautiful part of the country. The house itself was so comfy and relaxing (the microbrew keg in the fridge was above and beyond awesome!), with a nice little kitchen, great bed, fireplace in the living room, and a stunning view of the forest and mountains. Chris and Karen have also done some lovely and amazing work on the land right around the house and it's really beautiful to wander around, with a perfect little spot by the creek to relax. In addition to all that, it's so easy to hop on the highway and follow the river west to tons of wineries and never ending Ohhh-and-Ahhh vistas, or to cross back into Oregon and check out all the orchards and more amazing scenery.
THANKS SO MUCH, Karen and Chris, for creating such a wonderful space and letting us share it for the weekend :)
Karen and Chris are both wonderful people and their dogs are great too. When we travel to that area again, I would not think of staying at any location but theirs. From the minute we arrived we found the property and host to be even better than we had expected. We had the bad luck of booking while a record storm hit the area, And the government shutdown. So we spent more time relaxing and enjoying the property.
Thank you, Karen and Chris for a wonderful stay
We hope we can make it back real soon.
Richard and A.J.
Karen and Chris have created an inviting, cozy & convenient retreat in the Gorge. Secluded with a great view, close to town and adventure. We had a great stay in spite of the rainy weather. Our dog, Angus, was welcomed warmly by ALL two AND four legged hosts which meant a great deal to us. Knowing he's welcome will ensure we'll be back. Thanks Chris & Karen!
We cannot begin to describe what a fantastic time we had at Chris and Karen's... It was truly a retreat away from the busyness of our lives! The property is gorgeous, so much so that it was hard to get up and go in the morning because we were enjoying coffee and the view so much! But this was a great home base for exploring all the Gorge has to offer. We also loved their recommendation to try Acadia Farms... So fun! Thanks Chris and Karen (and Sadie, Honey, and Julio!)... We can't wait to come back soon (or try out your new Glamping set up!).
Karen and Chris were super flexible, gracious hosts. The stay was great and comfortable, with an awesome view of both the gorge and the stars at night. Karen and Chris were also really friendly and helped us plan our day, thanks again!
The retreat was amazing! It was quiet, serene, and had everything you could need. We loved the nap nest. Would definitely book with Chris and Karen again. They were very helpful prior to our stay and have done a fantastic job to create a perfect space for rest and relaxation.
