The room overlooks onto Mango and Coconut trees and most of all, the vast expanse of sky which is rare in a city of high rises. Kites and parrots are a common site and if one is lucky a family of kingfisher.
Convenience. Being centrally located guests can travel easily into the city center or to the airport or into North Bombay.
Hot water, wifi (sometimes the signal is strong and sometimes weak), filter water, tea or coffee in the morning, a wardrobe, a desk. Access to kitchen is provided for a small fee. I am happy if guests treat my place as their home and they are free to use the dining table and living room.
Interaction with Guests
I do enjoy interacting with guests and sometimes move around the city with them. I have access to cultural events and am happy to share these with guests.
When I was younger I didn't like many things, the dirt, people defecating on streets, noisy festivals...
Today I see and hear the same things but I I strangely love it all. I love walking down the vegetable market, walking into little east Indian villages (which are speedily disappearing under the weight of construction activity).
Excellent public transport..train station is 5 minutes away and you can board trains for Churchgate or Victoria Terminus.
Taxis and autos and buses too.
Other Things to Note
There is an abundance of street food, restaurants, expensive and inexpensive. We have 4 main streets Hill Road and Turner which lead to the sea. Then there is Linking Road and SV Road which are main arterial city roads that connect the suburbs to the city center.
Linking Road and Hill Roads are the 2 main shopping areas.
India does not follow the norm of garbage segregation. I do so. Strictly. I expect guests to do the same.
Fan, AC, lights and geyser have to be switched off when not in use.
Lila, who helps me with house cleaning arrives at around 10 am. Anytime between 10 and 11 she cleans the guest room. I expect the guest to make the room available at that time.
While using the elevator, the guest must ensure that elevator doors are shut properly. Otherwise the elevator stays stuck on that floor and cause inconvenience to other society members.
Staying with Jyotee was great. It was our first time in India and the beginning of our month long trip. She set up a ride for us from the airport to her house, took us to and showed us some great restaurants, helped us get our SIM cards set up and was lovely to chat with. Her house is very clean, with a convenient location close to the train station. There is some train noise, but nothing that affected us. It is a great place to stay and a lovely host.
My first stop in India and just what I was looking for. Clean, good location and Jyotee is a friendly, thoughtful and very helpful host who'll give you as much or as a little information as you need. The room itself is a good size with ensuite.
The station is a five minute walk away and takes you straight into town. Do the take to walk around The leafy parts of Bandra too (particularly up near the Fort).
Jyotee graciously waited up for our late arrival from Mumbai and was kind enough to welcome our dog Maggie. The building is difficult to locate, definitely have a driver that can speak to Jyotee for assistance in finding her apartment.
Oh..maybe it is because we are older or maybe it was the long flight that impacted our view of our stay here, I am no sure, but the creature comforts were spare. The bed and pillows are uncomfortably firm, there were no bath towels, bring your own tp if you require it, no ac meant the windows open which led to loads of mosquito bites and the trains ran endlessly and loudly through the night. The neighborhood is intense vs other parts of Bandra West.
I stayed with Jyotee for two months and it was the best AirBnB experience I've had. She really is a fantastic host, and the apartment itself is so light and airy. The room is great--you very much have your own space, but you also have a wonderful host to spend time with if you want. I would recommend Jyotee's apartment to anyone looking to stay in Bandra. It is a true gem.
Jyotee is the perfect host that anyone could get! She makes you feel like home and make sure you are well taken care of. She never once make you feel that you are being left out. She provided very detailed directions to places you want to visit and gives many suggestions of real good local food and what is happening around the area. The location is excellent for everything that you need. From pharmacy to sim card to train station to restaurants, they are all in walking distance.
Everyone should stay in Jyotee's place to experience the true heart and life of Mumbai.
I enjoyed so much my staying at Jyotee´s house. She was nice and always available for advices and suggestions on where to go and what to do. My room and the house itself were very clean and ordered. The location is good because it´s near the train station so it´s very easy to move around. I will definitely come back to visit her.
