The space
Balcones de Piedad´s Caves in Guadix- Granada. Bioclimatic houses. Uniques, magics, exciting. An amazing landscape.
In Balcones de Piedad we have 7 faithfully restored caves on a total of 30, so far, respecting the traditions that have been kept for centuries but with all the comfort and equipment of our times. We have scrupulously respected tradition in construction, they have not been built with concrete, the walls are treated with a mixture of ground of the area and cement, so the resulting color is the terrain itself. Everything is made out of natural staff: wood and stone handworked by local artisans.
Los Balcones de Piedad is a neighborhood with many centuries of existence, located between the ancient cities of Guadix and Baza, at the end of Bácor, it belongs to the province of Granada. It is a great natural balcony where the village settles, a great look out place into a sky full of stars. A stream runs along the bottom of the place, making silence alive.
These caves are very close to important and well known places such as Sierra Nevada National Park, Sierra de Cazorla, Segura and las Villas National Park, Guadiana Menor River -a tributary to the Guadalquivir River-, the water reservoir Negratín -second in size in Andalusia-, and more than 2000 hectares with siliceous earths that give the water an amazing turquoise color. Granada capital -with all its magic, charm and wonderful architecture-, Cabo de Gata National Park -on the coast of Almeria, an hour and thirty minutes drive away-, or other places full of history, such as the millenarian cities of Baza and Guadix ...
The location of the place is simply extraordinary, a huge canyon that has been eroded over thousands of years. Its isolation provides a virgin landscape where we can find hundreds of dolmens, indicators of inhabited area for many, many millennia.
Balcones de Piedad consists of:
Pita Cave and Acacia Cave can accommodate 2 people each (+2 people in each, if required).
Granado Cave and Cerezo Cave. Up to 5 people each.
El Almendro Cave. Sleeps 4.
Laurel Cave, can accommodate 6 people.
Outside, an extraordinary and unique infinity swimming pool, in which water comes out of a 8 metres deep cave, accessible from the same pool, and also a Solarium.

Where you’ll be

Los Balcones, Andalucía, Spain

If you are in Spain, don't forget to visit the beautiful province of Granada and spend some time in the back country away from the big city. Spend a few days touring the famous Guadix and Baza region and spend each restful night in one of these uniquely restored medieval cave dwellings.
Perched 3000 feet on the cliffs overhanging the Baúl river, these mountain alcoves maintain a natural year-round temperature between 69-71 degrees. Cool off in the pool after a summer hike and spend your nights gazing at the same stars that have been seen from these cliffs for centuries.

We are a small family business that has considered rehabilitating an entire neighborhood of caves, ( the Balcones de Piedad )abandoned decades ago, for the moment we have finished 7 and a beautiful swimming pool, out of a total of about 33. A fan of history, anthropology, and nature. Passionate about my land, we have started the project of Los Balcones de Piedad, to give the traveler the opportunity to get to know an almost unspoiled territory, full of paleontological and natural interest. Discovery of the restless and capable traveler.
