About this listing
Peaceful little attached ohana (mother-in-law apartment) with separate entrance, private patio and your own large landscaped green yard!
Read our reviews and book with confidence.
Small but cute attached ohana (in-law apartment with separate entrance) in a quiet residential neighborhood of Kailua-Kona, central to all that Kona offers. Two miles to Turtle beach, five miles to Kailua village, one mile to Keauhou Shopping Center, one block to a popular running/walking/biking path. The best snorkeling spots are 10-15 miles south, and the best sandy beaches are 10-15 miles north. Because we are on a hill and public transportation in Kona is limited, you will need to rent a car. There is safe street parking in our neighborhood.
The ohana is attached to our home but has a separate entrance with a private patio and a private green yard. The bedroom has a queen bed, and there is a bathroom with toilet and shower (the sink is just outside in the bedroom), a small living/dining/kitchenette room with fridge, microwave, toaster oven, and other accessories you'll need to make simple meals. The large gas barbeque on the patio has a separate cooking burner for cooking.
There is cable TV in the bedroom, and wireless Internet.
We are not a resort or a B and B. We can't offer daily housekeeping, a pool, ocean views, or breakfast. What we can offer is a clean, quiet place to stay while you explore Kona, away from the crowds, traffic noise, souvenir kiosks and drunk vacationers. We will give you your privacy but will be available if you have questions.
We can also offer many free amenities: washer and dryer in our "laundry lounge", double kayak (can be used by one person also), beach chairs, towels, beach umbrella, one set of snorkel gear, and small insulated bags.
We will consider pets, but we do have adorable (we think) French bulldogs and they get a little excited when another animal is on their turf (although they will not have access to your apartment or your private yard).
We see lots of wildlife because our property backs up onto acres of undeveloped land. Wild turkeys wander the neighborhood, geckos play in the yard and sometimes in the house. If you're lucky, you might spot a wild pig. They are the descendents of domesticated pigs and wild boars and there is no cuter sight than a mama pig with her babies trotting past the house.
Come join us in paradise!
Your unit is attached to, but separate from, our main part of the house. The fenced back yard will be yours exclusively. You are welcome to use the laundry facilities in the garage "laundry lounge".
Interaction with Guests
We will be on hand to answer any questions. We prefer that you text or call before coming over, and we will try to do the same (emergencies don't count).
We are just above Walua Road, a popular walking and biking trail. The trail is about six miles long and consists partly of road with limited car traffic and partly of paved trail that is closed to car traffic.
Public transportation is scarce in Kona if you are off the beaten path. You WILL need to rent a car.
This is a quiet residential neighborhood, so we ask that guests keep noise to a minimum. Save your "party voice" for the bars!
You will need to rent a car while you are here as we are on a hill and public transportation in Kona is minimal.
We don't provide breakfast, so you might want to pick something up on the way in if you are arriving in the evening. There are some restaurants about a mile away that serve breakfast.
Because the place is very small and because we are in a quiet residential neighborhood, we ask that entertaining be kept at a minimum in terms of number of visitors and length of time.
We only clean and change linens and towels between guests, but you are welcome to use our washer and dryer free of charge.
We have a short but steep driveway that guests need to walk up. We are happy to help with luggage and it has not yet been an issue, but we can see that it might be a problem for some people.
If you don't like to go barefoot, be sure to bring house slippers because in Hawaii we leave our shoes at the door.
I really enjoyed my stay there; which is in a very nice secluded residential area. Christina was a great host and pretty much let me enjoy my privacy it was a great experience and I highly recommend their rental too everyone. It was really nice to be able to use the washer dryer in their garage. Ano really nice touch was having a bathrobe available to use and a decent closet to hang my clothes. The outside seating area was enjoyable, perfect for one or two people. Close to shopping and beaches. I would definitely stay there again.
This Ohana is by far the best choice for a stay in Kona. It is a perfect apartment with all the cooking amenities needed for added convenience. It is obvious that Christina and Dan are well traveled by the level of necessities they have included in their Ohana with perfect arrangement for ease of use. The ability to do laundry after days of hiking and surfing was also huge plus.
Our host Christina and Dan are very friendly and helpful people. We really can not say enough about the positive experience we had at this Ohana. Perfect quiet location, perfect relaxing visit.
Best airbnb experience ever! The value of this wonderful Ohana made our friends staying in touristy condos and hotels so jealous. It was like a comfortable apartment with a huge deck and private backyard. Lots of cooking, organizing, and storage space. Chris and her husband are super cool. The second we think we're coming back to the Big Island, we'll race to book with them again.
Let me start by saying that Christina and Dan are super nice people. The unit it self was super nice. The icing on the cake where Christina's special touch such as cute little soap packages and local snacks and drinks in the fridge. Aldo where where out exploring this great island a lot. Christana and Dan where more then happy to help us find great snorkeling and food (da Poke Shack Rulez ) The location is just of the main road so quick going to town. All and all an amazing stay.
This is an amazing place, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. It is very private, clean and has everything one may need - including beach towels, beach chairs, and body boards! There's a private patio overlooking a beautiful garden, complete with a barbecue grill. Highly recommended!
This place is amazing. It has al you need, is quiet and even better than you expect after seeing the pictures on airbnb.
I had a great time!
Thanks Christina and Chris
