  • The view of vancouver was excellent. After I became acclimatized to the somewhat lively family environment beneath me I was able to get some much desired rest. Overall, the experience was suitable for the cost. It would've been nice to meet the host(s) in person. I do appreciate first hand contact under such circumstances.

  • Doan and Karen are awesome, helpful people. I had a great stay at their place. The accomodation was clean and close to all forms of transportation. I recommend any traveler or newcomer to Vancouver to stay at their place!

  • Totally what we were after, affordable option, well taken care of. It was a bit further from downtown then we were hoping but we brought our bikes and between that and public transit we didn't find it to be an issue. We stayed in their rental and it was very quiet and felt like our own space.

  • This was our first try with airbnb. We didn't actually meet our hosts. The key was hidden outside with a note on the door (we arrived late, maybe 9?). The room was sparse, there was only one bathroom for up to eight people (four rooms). There was a decent looking kitchen. The location was very convenient for our needs (visiting friends) and the bed was comfortable.

  • I stayed at Doan and Karen's place for three weeks while in Canada for an opera program. The house was clean and in good condition. I was in one of the bedrooms in the basement, sharing a bathroom with whoever was staying in the other bedroom (it changed over the course of the three weeks). The basement has a separate entrance, which was really nice.

Doan and Karen were great at responding to anything I needed very quickly. When I needed a new set of keys or the Internet went down, they made special trips to the house to take care of it. Overall, they were great hosts.

One of my only complaints was that there were large groups of people staying in the main (upstairs) part of the house, and it could be extremely loud at times, even at all hours of the night. I had privacy with my own room and being in the basement, but if you're looking for a place that's always quiet and peaceful, this may not be the place. It's also not terribly close to anything other than residential areas, so getting to Safeway/coffee shops/Skytrain/etc. was a little bit of a hassle.

  • Our stay at Doan&Karen was quite good.
The room were clean and comfortable.
The house is located in a calm and quiet neighborhood, about 5 minutes walking to the metro station and not far from downtown.
We would not only recommend, but also stay there again when traveling to Vancouver.

  • You need to know that there are actually 2 locations. They have an (email hidden) and another (email hidden). Surprisingly we stayed in both places... We booked Rupert St but when we (email hidden) nobody was there and when we called them we were told to check out Chatham St being 'a lot nicer'. This place is very nice indeed, only some troubles with the keys but you have your own bathroom and very cosy bedroom. Also the kitchen and living room are really well equipped. You do need to know that the family will use these areas too so expect some visits during the day from them. But then we had to move because it seemed the place was already booked for someone else... So moving back to Rupert St we had to sleep in what seemed to be the grandma's bedroom. The bed was okay but there was only one small window and almost no storage space. Also there was NO private bathroom and the kitchen was being occupied fully by the host family. Looking back at the pictures on the website, we don't recognise these rooms at all, in neither of both places we came across these rooms. So in summary, if you can stay in Chatham St you'll be okay but if you need to stay in the (email hidden), you won't have a private bathroom and a very small window only and no real common area to cook. We rated this venue low because we didn't like to be pushed around like that and because we think you should know that you may get something else than what the website tells you.
