Chris is an excellent host and his place is beautiful. Stayed 1 week with kids aged 4 and 6, who really enjoyed the pool. Very good and quiet spot in Samara!

Chris was an exemplary host. Simply cannot fault him, his tips, calm attentiveness or the beautiful Casa Halcón, which perfectly combines accessibilty to the amenities of Sámara (best by bike or 20 mins walking) and a cosy family space. A magical stay.

This was our first visit to Costa Rica and we fell in love with Samara so much so, that we are highly considering relocating to build a life in this magical slice of heaven. We loved waking up to the sound of the howler monkeys in the distant trees, drinking our morning coffee out on the lanai and biking down the dirt road into town. We are a family of 3 with a toddler and our daughter absolutely loved Samara. The beach is perfect for young swimmers and for learning to surf. We swam in the ocean everyday! We stayed at Chris' place for 6 weeks and cannot begin to elaborate on how great Chris was in making sure that we were comfortable, were enjoying our stay, and addressed any question or concern immediately. More so than being a great host, Chris is a wonderful person as are nearly all of the people who call Samara home. The distance from the house to Samara beach and into town was about a 35 minute walk with our toddler, so we opted to bike instead which was about a 10 minute bike ride. We loved being so active everyday. The dining options are outstanding, which we are really impressed to find given that Samara is a smaller beach town. If you like Vegan/Vegetarian you have to try LuvBurger, Bohemia Cafe, smoothies from the Organico Mercado, and Falafel from the little spot within the Nature Center. Other great places to dine is Mamma Gui for incredible homemade pasta, Locanda on the beach, El Que Hay, and Gusto Beach. There are several great Soda (Tico owned) Restuarants as well: Soda Ana and the one 2 doors down from Chris' place. We did our grocery shopping at the Organico Mercado (you can pre-order your Organic produce before Tuesday morning deliveries), Super Samara, Iguana Verde up the street from Chris', and hitting up the fruit stands and fruit trucks. Be sure to ask Chris to put you in touch with Rafa and Manny for their Nature/Waterfall Hike - they are awesome people and also offer taxi all over. Take a day trip into Nosara and dine at La Luna on Playa (URL HIDDEN) is magical. The food is divine, the owners have impeccable taste and it's right on the beach with constant ocean breeze. Take the bus from town to Carrillo Beach about 10 minutes south and be sure to pack a lunch since there's no beachside markets or dining options. You can catch the bus back at the Northend of the beach right before you head over the bridge. Take the hike from across Villa Tangerine to the 'Secret Beach'. The views are spectacular at the top of the mountain before you hike down and cool off in the ocean. If you are looking to do a stay longer than a week, and have children, we highly recommend Mareas International Homeschool in town as a half or full day option. Our daughter Zelle absolutely loved her...

Chris was very knowledgeable about the area and had great recommendations. He was always available when we needed something. The house was very cozy and the vegetation around the house was very lush so you had privacy from nearby neighbors. We loved having access to the bikes so we could ride down the dirt road to get fresh pastries and food or go a little farther to go surfing. Would highly recommend this place. It has great value and Chris is a wonderful person to be around.

We had a great time in Samara. The AC in the rooms worked well and the pool was nice and refreshing. Chris provided us with purified drinking water and was present and helpful.

The property was just as advertised. Pool is a bit smaller than anticipated, but ended up being a perfect size in the end. Very beautiful house nestled in the jungle. Bikes were provided which was awesome being so close to the beach. AC in bedrooms worked which was crucial. Definitely have all the basics needed, esp. for the price! Would love to stay again!

Chris was a great host, he greeted us upon arrival, even though we were very late. He was very present, checking everything was okay and giving us recommendations for things to do and places to go. The house was clean and we loved the yard with hammocks and shallow pool which was perfect for the kids. It was in a nice, quiet neighborhood. Although we had some vocal monkeys outside our window, we loved hearing them and watching them eat mangos from the tree outside. It was a short drive to the beach, where the waves were perfect for the kids and learning to surf. We loved his dog, he was very friendly and calm and the kids enjoyed playing with him. We would stay here again.

My name is Chris Hawk (Most friends call me Hawk). I'm originally from Canada but have been traveling extensively for the past 18yrs. I moved to Samara in 2012 and am very happy with this choice. Samara is a wonderful town with an incredible vibe where the locals, ex-pats and tourists all mingle effortlessly.
I am a certified hatha yoga instructor and was working with an addictions retreat center here before finding this amazing property. I am open to working with anyone that would like yoga, pranayama (yogic breathing) or meditation classes.

Wishing you an amazing adventure in samara - HAWK
