Beautiful and cozy little freestanding huts offer the ultimate private mountain experience and you can watch a family of elephants pass by your windows all day long. The huts feature traditional grass roofs, queen-size beds, mini-bars, mosquito nets, fans, and private outdoor space.
Here you can spend your days caring and interacting with elephants — playing, feeding, and bathing them. Cool off with an afternoon swim in a fresh mountain water pool. Ride down the river in a bamboo raft, or simply float away in a tube without a care in the world. Picnic in a sprawling garden, eat fresh fruit right from the tree and relax in a hammock. Go trekking or on endless trails that lead to secret waterfalls, beautiful vistas, Hill Tribe villages and hidden spots unreachable by car. And at the end of the day, come gather around the fire pit and experience local Hilltribe music and dance performances that date back generations, while gazing at a sky full of stars.

Wow where do we begin!!!!!
The moment we arrived we were amazed as we walked over the suspension bridge and watched below us as local Thai family's were swimming and bamboo rafting down the river, and along the banks were masses of locals sitting in bamboo shelters having food that was BBQ from a steep bank of about 60ft above the river which was delivered by rope with a basket hanging from it.
We were greeted with smiling happy faces from Alexa and all the staff were Amazing people. We got on so well with them ALL that we felt part of the team, so much so that we were awaken at 5am to help deliver a baby elephant. One of the most exciting and memorable experiences that we have had the pleasure to witness.
The food was amazing and the huts were picturesque and in perfect keeping with the surroundings and comfortable. We could not have chosen a more special place to stay it truly is a hidden gem and we were very sad to leave but will be returning for a longer stay ASAP.
Thank you Alexa and the whole team for an unforgettable unique life experience
This is a most atmospheric and pleasant surrounding with all the elephants and rafting options. Nice people to meet and Alexa does a top-job! Highly recommended.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Serene Bungalow elephant camp. It was indeed serene, and comfortable. We had some wonderful times there.
The stay with Alexa started a month ago when I started emailing her about what I wanted to do at elephant camp. By the time I arrived she was family. She took cAre of everything I wanted to do and more. Due to her amazing attitude to life and her incredibly endearing staff I rode a huge elephant bareback through the Thai jungle and took it swimming in the creek. It was the highlight of my trip and I am still buzzing from the experience. Her work with the Karen people and Burmese refuges will keep me coming back to Mae Wang for a long time to come. These gentle people have stolen my heart. This is the experience of a lifetime. You would be crazy to miss it. Miss you guys already xxx
Chai Lai orchard was absolutely amazing. I can't imagine a more peaceful and relaxing place. Not to mention Alexa's support of the local people and enviornment. Next time I'm booking for a week!
Alexa's place is magical. She wasn't feeling well while we where there but her staff was excellent. I even forgot to pay the bill for the elephant ride and food, because we had paid the reservation through airbnb, and she simply called the driver and was very nice and understanding on the phone. Great experience all around.
Chai Lai Orchid is wonderful - can't reccomend it enough. The place is beautiful and peaceful. It was wonderful to be able to sit at the cafe, drink coffee, play cards and just observe elephants for hours. Alexa was a very friendly and helpful host as well and she was full of helpful information about the area and the elephants. As reviewers say she is from New York City - a fun and funny coincidence as me and my friend I stayed with are too. We stayed only one night as our time total in Thailand was short. One night was worth it but we wished we had had at least one more night there.
The drive from Chiang Mai was also quite beautiful and interesting. We enjoyed seeing some of rural Thailand that we wouldn't otherwise have seen.
We had an incredible time at the Serene Bungalow at Elephant Camp. The food was fantastic, the atmosphere relaxing, and the scenery stunning. Alexa was a wonderful host both in terms of setting up tours but more importantly, telling us about the local populations and the issues they face. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to spend time in a rural area of Thailand.
We had a fabulous stay with Alexa and all of her great staff. Alexa was very responsive and helpful to all of our inquiries including our initial booking and all of the follow up about where to stay in Chiang Mai, drivers and the best weather for bamboo rafting on the river. The staff at Chai Lai Orchard are very friendly and while many of them are learning both different aspects of hospitality and english, their smiles and enthusiasm went so much further than just providing good customer service. They had our stay an experience that we will not forget and will treasure for a long time to come.
Meeting the elephants and riding them through the jungle is something which cannot be under estimated. They are such gentle yet powerful creatures, each with their very own personalities. Staying at Chai Lai Orchard provided an opportunity to observe the elephants and their manhouts interacting with each other and the tourists. All the end of our stay we felt that we had started to get to know just a little bit more about each one.
Going to the Karen and Long Neck village and finding out about how they live and seeing their beautiful handicrafts, bamboo rafting down the river and simply spending time in the beautiful Thai forest were other highlights.
Great place to check out while you're in Northern Thailand, especially if you want to get up close and personal with the elephants and some of the locals. We spent 3 nights there with our 1 year old daugther and had a great time. Definite highlight of Thailand. Probably easier for people that have kids that can walk as there isn't a lot for a toddler to do unless you're happy to take them on an elephant ride, rafting down the river or trekking in the jungle. The staff are very friendly and it's going to become very popular in the future as it continues to improve.
