This unique house is over 125 years old and made of redwood planks that were brought in by train from California. I have spent thousands of hours lovingly restoring and enhancing it with period details for contemporary comfort.

Bob is one of my all time favorite airbnb hosts. He's welcoming, interesting, mellow and thoughtful. We felt immediately comfortable with Bob and enjoyed chatting and getting to know him better when our schedules permitted. Bob is also a great resource for things to do and places to eat in and around Tucson.
The rooms we stayed in were as described and even more charming in person (just like Bob). I was really impressed with how very clean the space was. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom spacious, and we appreciated having kitchen privileges. It was so nice for this Bostonian to sit outside on my own porch on a February evening and relax.
The location of Maddox House could not have been better for us. We were in town for the gem shows, so had to drive most places, but were able to walk to Fourth Ave for dinners, as well as to the U of A (literally 1/2 a block away) to visit their museums. There is also a cool little arts enclave/neighborhood called "the lost barrio" about a 5 minute walk away.
On Bob's suggestion, we took the shuttle from the Phoenix Airport which has a stop about a two minute walk from Maddox House-very convenient as it was much cheaper to rent a car in Tucson.
In the end, I really didn't wan to leave! Thank you so much Bob, for a perfect stay in Tucson.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Maddox House, and Bob was a delightful host. We enjoyed talking with him about a wide variety of topics, and he was full of practical and historical information about Tucson. The house suited our style perfectly - the privacy of our own room and bathroom, plus the shared living room/kitchen arrangement where we could prepare our breakfasts and other light meals worked out well. The neighborhood was conveniently accessible to both downtown Tucson activities and to quick escapes out to the mountains for hiking.
I am very happy I made the acquaintance of Bob during my stay in Tucson! Even if we were both pretty busy the week I was there (hint, don't miss the All Souls procession on November next year!), we found some time to chat and it was really interesting. Of course, this was helped by the fact that Bob is an extremely kind host, giving good advices for Tucson neophytes and for things to see and restaurants to try.
The house is very nice and cozy, and the rooms for the guests are on one side of the house so you can have all the privacy you want (you have also your own entrance; the kitchen is shared with Bob instead). Nothing to complain about the facilities (bed, bathroom...) and it's so pleasant to stay on the porch in the evening. Great experience, will come back if I'll have the occasion!
I loved the location, the living space, and the host Bob from Maddox House. The location was perfect to walk to the UofA campus as well as downtown. Our living space (bedroom, bathroom and living room) was immaculate. It was so well done and comfortable. The porch off of our room was perfect to sit and drink coffee that Bob offered in the morning. Bob is friendly and an overall wonderful host. He made sure we could find the house easily, he offered tips of Tucson and was great to get to know and talk with. My boyfriend and I enjoyed staying at his beautiful home and we would recommend it to anyone! We look forward to staying there on our next visit!
Bob was a great host. His house is in an absolutely perfect location for anyone that has business at the university. Bob has a rare skill to make you feel welcome and comfortable while still providing space and privacy. Will definitely be staying again when I have to come back to Tucson.
I enjoyed Bob´s wonderful “rincón.” The personal warmth of the house, and the combination of the local and interior landscape that Bob has created over the years, made my visit to Tucson very special. Bob is a welcoming host, always ready to help with advise and friendship. I was working with the University of Arizona so the location is excellent. It is also a good point to link up with the rest of the city. I was able to walk, use the local city train, taxis, and for those with cars, easy to find and with parking.
Bob is the most generous, interesting, wonderful human! His house is gorgeous- a little oasis in the desert. My friend and I only stayed one night, but I would happily stay forever. Bob was happy to make up the couch so we had a bed each, we had our own entrance, and there was plenty of privacy (though when we were 'home' all we wanted to do was chat to bob, so we sought him out). The house is less than a km (about half a mile) from 4th avenue, where you'll find great cafes (plenty of vegetarian/vegan options for those interested), bookstores, tattoo parlours, bars, thrift shops, a beautiful food co-op, herbalist, souvenirs and much more. It's a great area with plenty to do, and Bob has lots of suggestions for wonderful places to see/eat/experience (if you're a poetry/literature fan, ask him about the poetry centre). Our stay at Bob's was definitely a highlight of our little trip to Tucson.
I'm an artist, and I've been in the visual and performing arts all my life--that's almost 60 years, now! Currently, I'm writing and producing a feature film. I'm easygoing and my home is peaceful and, above all, comfortable. My guests often remark on the quiet and relaxed atmosphere in my house. I love referring people to remarkable local restaurants and out-of-the-way places they wouldn't discover on their own. I enjoy good friends, good food, and good conversation.
