A small one bedroom apartment just 2 streets back from the beach in a residential neighbourhood. Recently renovated bathroom and tile flooring. West facing balcony with view of Rocamaura, great for breakfast in the shade and afternoon sangria in the sun!

The space
Located on the 3rd floor (NO ELEVATOR) of a building mostly made up of holiday lets. It is worth noting that several flats are YEAR-ROUND RESIDENTS and there are FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN who run and make noise early in the mornings. Also, the newly built MarCel school and nursery as well as the new Medical Centre are directly across the road. I'm sorry for the capitalization, but you wouldn't believe how many people read this and then complain. So I have taken the perhaps unusual route of pointing out the downside up front.

So what's the downside? Well, the flat is small. Compact and bijou would be the estate agent's way of saying it. Its not that the pictures are a trick or some kind of lie, but you must keep in mind that the spaces that you see don't contain people. I know this seems obvious but it needs to be said.

Another thing to note is that the flat is not in a purpose built holiday complex. It is in a normal residential building in town. There are children who live in the building and across the street is a school.

Add to this the fact that if you are coming in the height of summer, it is very likely that many of the other flats in the building will be rented to holidaymakers who are likely to be enjoying themselves. Its not usually too loud, but it certainly could be in July or August. I know that this is all very obvious but I really do need to emphasize it here so that everything is absolutely clear before booking your holiday.

I can hear you saying, "Wow, all of that is a real downer. Is there any upside at all?" Naturally there is (or we wouldn't have bought the flat in the first place)! And there is far more "up" than "down" to the flat, in our opinion anyway. So first of all, while we would never try to pretend that ours is in any way a "luxury" flat, we would certainly contend that it is a very sweet and cozy pied-a-terre for your beach holiday; a wonderful place to come back to after a long day (or evening) out exploring L'Estartit and the surrounding area.

And of course this part of the Costa Brava (and L'Estartit in particular) are well known for being a family friendly holiday destination.
______________________________________________________________________So, with those disclaimers out of the way, here is the low-down on the area:

Perfectly located as the gateway to the Medes Islands marine reserve and Baix Ter Nature Park, you can enjoy our pleasant and beautiful sandy beaches, the fabulous Medes archipelago, birdwatching, hiking, canoeing and cycling along the River Ter.

The Medes Islands are today one of the most important marine flora and fauna reserves in the western Mediterranean, as well as being a popular scuba diving destination. Twenty years of protection have brought about a spectacular recovery of the wealth of the seabed, the marine environment and the islands themselves. Companies operating in the area offer attractive trips in glass-bottomed boats around the islands and along the equally stunning Montgrí coast.

Easy day trips will take you to Cap de Creus, hiking up Montgrí Mountain or visiting the Greek ruins of Sant Martí d'Empúries.

There is a weekly market in L'Estartit on Thursdays as well as one in nearby Torroella de Montgrí on Mondays. Also in Torroella you can find shops, restaurants, cinema, medical centre, museums, etc.

You can arrive easily by bus from Girona train station or from the airport. And if you come by car, parking is free outside the property.

The apartment is just 230 metres from the beach. It's 33 m2, third floor, so you will have one bedroom, a small open kitchen living room and a balcony with great mountain views. In the living room there will be a futon style folding double bed as well as a double bed in the bedroom.

This is a great location if you want to enjoy the beach, especially if you come with kids, and if you want all kind of leisure activities for all ages or if you also want to enjoy the nightlife. You also can enjoy very nice walks from the apartment, 1-3 km, to beautiful natural sites, just walking by the sea, and you have great day excursions to visit the Empordà region.

Please note that the flat is located on the 3rd floor. There is NO LIFT (ELEVATOR).

Other things to note
No charge for extra people, although I would point out that the flat is a SMALL ONE BEDROOM FLAT. It is best designed for a couple, possibly with a very young child or two. Four adults is honestly way too close for comfort!

Torroella de Montgrí, Catalunya, Spain

Residential neighbourhood, in front of the school and new medical centre and only a short walk from bars and restaurants. While it is relatively quiet, please be aware that L'Estartit in the high summer season has as many as 40,000 visitors per week (!) so a certain amount of frivolity in the streets is unavoidable. However, L'Estartit is a great destination for most of the year and the underwater beauty of the Illes Medes, the large and well-equipped sports marina and the abundance of nearby golf courses keep divers, sailors and golfers coming back year after year.
