Our guests say: "This is paradise!" when they stay at the little red cottage on our horse farm. Located in sunny Deer Harbor in a very private valley on a dead end road, you can watch our mustangs play in the meadows below, or the deer muching apples from our 100 year old trees. Our snug cottage has an old fashioned feeling with wood floors, wainscoating, high ceilings, lots of sunshine and walls of windows. Yet it is modern, warm and has high speed internet for those who are working or need to stay in touch.
We supply bikes for biking, apples off our trees and other local produce when in season.
This one bedroom cottage offers a queeen sized bed with down comforters and 100% cotton linens. There is also a single bed (sleigh bed) in the dining room. The fully equipped kitchen has a double sink, gas range, fridge, table for dining. Windows surround the living room offering views in three directions and let in lots of sunshine. Furnished with couch, chairs and TV with a DVD player. (Bring your own DVD's) The bathroom is compact with shower, sink and washer/dryer.
Adjacent to a Waterfowl Refuge for extrodinary bird watching, you may see owls, hawks, eagles, songbirds, migrating waterbirds, finches, swallows, herons right from the patio. The round brick patio surrounded by mature lavendar and flowers is a geat place for the evening barbeque and a glass of wine, while watching the sunset.
Walk to the nearby Deer Harbor Marina to the beach, or to go whale watching or kayaking at the Deer Harbor dock. Quiet roads for walking right out the door, and great hiking on nearby Turtleback Preserve.
In Deer Harbor you can dine watching the sun set at the Deer Harbor Inn. Eastsound offers a variety of eateries, some of our favorites are the Asian Kitchen for lunch, Ship Bay Oyster House or Chimayo's for dinner - both offer excellent seafood. At the far end of Orcas you can find the Doe Bay Cafe- run by a 5 star chef from NYC, or grab some crabcakes and blackberry pie at the Olga Cafe. Love Horses? A recent guest had this to say: "...the best part about it are the four wonderfully spirited and graceful Mustangs who are awe-inspiring to watch. I would HIGHLY suggest you take some horse lessons during your stay, it will feed your soul, and Kate is a master at her craft in her ability to connect with the horses." See more at: Natural Horsemanship On Orcas. Currently Retreats/Workshops are being offered on Sept. 20-22 "The Keys to the Heart of a Horse". Oct. 11-13 "Ground Skills and Psychology"
Staying in the little red cottage that looks out over a lovely marsh to the right, four stunning mustang horses straight ahead and a tree filled with bright red October apples to the left, was a dream come true! This Orcas Island experience nourished my mind, body and soul. Thank you, Kate, Ken and your incredible mustangs, Black Elk, Shaman, Rascal and Ranger.
Kate and Ken's property is truly a hidden paradise. This small cabin is filled with character and charm - inside and out. I suggest waking up early, watching the sunrise and taking in the symphony of bird song that is at your front door. Amazing!
An idyllic setting and a sweet cottage, especially if you love birding. The little patio overlooking apple trees is a perfect place to read, write, eat, drink, and watch birds.
Thank you to Kate for sharing this serene slice of paradise!
We loved our stay on Orcas Island, and we loved this charming cottage! It was so incredibly comfortable and the light in the place was amazing. The views are stunning, and it's remote enough to feel alone, yet well located enough to get to restaurants and activities quickly.
We would absolutely stay here again! Thanks for everything Kate!
Kate is really great. She was great with communicating and worked with us a whole lot. You couldn't find a better place to visit, Orcas is magical!
The reservation was canceled 5 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Totally loved this place. Hosts were friendly and accomodating. Great hiking nearby. Cottage felt airy and all the windows, gorgeous views, made me feel like I was in the midst of nature.
Wonderful 10 day stay at the Orcas Island Cottage on Horse Farm. The cottage had everything we needed including high speed internet. The Island offers much to do, with many highlights over our 10 day stay. Kate and Ken are most excellent hosts.
We had a lovely stay at the cottage. The space is so cozy and there were wonderful decorative and accommodating details everywhere, like the fresh flowers! We cooked a few meals in the kitchen and were happy to have so many utensils and pots/pans available. Even though we visited during a rainy time of year it was still a lot of fun and Orcas Island is beautiful with clouds!
This is a lovely "get away" place. There was plenty of room for 3 adults in the cottage although there is really only one real double bed and the third person sleeps on a cot. There were no complaints about the comfort of the cot from my 28 year old son. Our only mistake was not looking at the lay of the island and realizing that we were way over on one side of the island. This is not a place to come to without a car in inclement weather. We were a little disappointed not to have crossed paths with our hosts although for someone who wants solitude this place is pretty perfect.
