We enjoyed our stay at Jeri and Kathy's country cottage. With two bedrooms and two full bathrooms, it was just the right balance between cozy and comfortable for four humans and a dog.
The stars at night were beautiful! There is less light pollution out in the country, so the stars come out clearly. Dusk came early, and the cold December air made for lovely sunsets.
We enjoyed staying on a small farm and looking at the crops out the front windows. Kathy gave us a diagram of the beds and plantings, so we were able to identify the different plants and trees they are growing.
The only thing that was a little surprising was the presence of mice. I gather it's not unusual for farms to have mice (what with being surrounded by foodstuffs), but as a city girl, I was unprepared.
We had a nice time in southern Illinois. From the prettiness of the countryside to the convenience of Carbondale (which has yummy restaurants as well as big box stores for shopping if you're so inclined), it was a good stay at Kathy and Jeri's place.
Kathy's and Jeri's organic farm is a great place to stay. The house is very clean and comfortable. They have great wireless Internet which was very important to me. Staying there is like staying in a great park as it's right on the edge of Giant City State Park. The night sky is just gorgeous in this very rural setting.
Donna and I are vegans and Kathy made us a great Thanksgiving vegan dinner. It had several delicious courses with enough for two days of leftovers. Their house is very quiet and a great place to sleep or just relax. We look forward to a return visit in the summer or fall. Thanks again, Kathy and Jeri, for a great time!
Jeri and Kathy's place was perfect! They were so accommodating to prepare the house for us with only a few hour's notice, even leaving treats for us upon our arrival. The farm was beautiful and located in a lovely rural area, but within close reach of restaurants, coffee shops, and unique, locally-owned shops. Makanda was a quaint delight, and Carbondale provided all the supplies we needed throughout our stay. Sadly, we did not get to meet Jeri or Kathy, but all of their communication was prompt and lovely. Hopefully, we can return to meet them in person!
Jeri was very responsive and communicative in advance of--and during--our stay. The place was just as described. It's in a lovely setting minutes outside a tiny historic town (Makanda) and in the beautiful wooded hills around Giant City Park. We had the queen bedroom with attached bath--it was extremely comfortable. The grounds are lovely, rural and quiet. We saw rabbits and squirrels and birds including a hummingbird at the kitchen window. Full kitchen with all the utensils you need. Some beautiful rustic furniture pieces. This is a simple, cozy, very quiet and lovely place to spend a few days and get away from everything. We also purchased the muffins and smoothies that came in addition to the coffee, apples and chocolate that seemed to be included with the place. Next time we want to spend a night or more around Shawnee National Forest, this will be our home base.
We had a great time in Cobden! The property was beautiful, and the breakfast was yummy. The garden looks wonderful; we'd love to come back and see how it looks in spring or summer.
What a treat! Quiet, relaxing and well located. We really enjoyed reading and recovering on the front porch. Close to hiking, biking and fun Canopy Zip Line. Kitchen was well appointed in the house for cooking and there are good restaurants and wineries within close distance.
Beautiful organic gardens made for fun bird and bee watching from front porch.
Jeri and Kathy were good hosts and easy to work with. The beautiful homemade soaps for showering were a treat and local honey and jam a taste treat. They provide organic breakfast (donuts, muffins, and smoothies) for $10.00 pp which we enjoyed. Did I mention the house was clean as a whistle! It was a treat to find this gem and we look forward to further explore this beautiful part of the state from this comfortable house.
We enjoyed our 3 nights stay at La Colina Linda Farm. It was quiet & comfortable, also private since we were the only occupants of the two bedroom house. We especially liked the locally made bath soap provided by our hosts. The breakfast smoothies that were part of an additional cost option from a vegan fare menu were quite good too. And what’s not to like about fresh coffee beans to brew up each morning. We would return to La Colina Farm on our next visit to Cobden in Southern Illinois.
Kathy and Jeri were fantastic hosts! We stayed there the week of our wedding and I was touched by how much they went out of their way to help. Homemade almond milk, muffins and yummy blueberries and kale from their garden were waiting for us upon our arrival. We plan to go back after our son is born to relax again!
