About this listing
My home is a lovely shotgun double home located in the Lower Garden District of New Orleans. The house is close to many restaurants, bars, museums and shops. Just a few blocks from the Convention Center, Warehouse District and everything else the city has to offer.
My home has two BR and two baths. There is a queen bed, a full and two inflatable twin mattresses. There is always plenty of parking and even bikes available.
Charlie left us a basket of fresh fruit and some beer in the fridge. He also promptly answered emails and texts. He also lives next door which is immensely helpful.
Charlie's house is in a great location. it's a 30-40 minute walk or a 20 min ($12) cab ride to the French Quarter, in a quiet, safe neighborhood. A public bus and the streetcar are also within easy walking distance though we didn't use them. The air conditioners and ceiling fans in the bedrooms and living room kept the apartment very comfortable.
Everything was spotless and there were fresh towels etc. for our stay. We did notice that the back door didn't lock, but Charlie came over the next day and fixed it asap. Charlie was a very responsive host and he answered texts and calls immediately. He is very willing to help you if you have a question about either the property or NOLA in general.
Great time at Charlie's! Nice porch, good location in a quiet but decently accessible neighborhood.
This cute, eclectic shotgun house was a really nice size for me, my husband, our baby, and my parents. Plenty of space but still cozy. For the most part (see exceptions below), it was very clean. The location was GREAT! We walked to Magazine St. and to the Warehouse District, but drove to the French Quarter. Parking at the house was never an issue. The neighborhood felt safe and everyone we encountered on our walks was very friendly.
That being said, we did have a few issues. First, the house was not ready for us when we arrived at 4:30 (though check-in was supposed to be at 3:00). After a tiring 7 hour drive with a 5 month old, we were a bit disappointed in that, and that it wasn't communicated to us before we got there. We unloaded our stuff while the cleaners finished up and took a stroll around the neighborhood to pass the time. Second, contrary to previous reviews we read, there was no cable on the television, not even free local channels. I realize we're there to enjoy the city, but we couldn't even turn on the TV to check news or weather. Another issue is that in the kitchen, one of the cabinet drawer fronts was off and left on the counter with nails sticking out, which leads me to believe that no one inspected the house in between guests. Finally, the back door did not have a key and was left unlocked (though there was a security latch) and the back yard was completely derelict. There were tools, weeds, dog feces, and boards with nails in them strewn all over.
This location had only positive, raving reviews, so we were disappointed with our experience. If not for these issues that could have been avoided or fixed in advance, we would definitely return to or recommend this location.
Thanks for the review. This is a busy time of year and people are checking in on the same day others are checking out. Sorry the cleaning crew was not done yet they were late. And no I don't have cable, it's DirecTV with a couple hundred stations, including local ones.
The house is just as it's described on the website. It is a great space and was very clean and tidy. Charlie was quick to respond to any questions we had -- very accommodating! The location is great, as well. It was just a 15 minute walk from the Convention Center, and very close to Magazine Street. Overall, a great stay -- we would definitely come again!
This house was perfect for a weekend in New Orleans with some friends. The location is amazingly close to the shops on Magazine St and Mardi Gras World (where our event was taking place). The house had a TON of charm and was everything we could have hoped for.
The house was great. It was so cute and had everything we needed! The beds were really comfortable. It was in a good location and we felt safe walking around. We were able to hail a cab for 6 from Magazine Street on both Friday night and Saturday night! We would stay here again.
Everything was great. The house was clean. Everything we needed was there. The beds were really comfortable. It was an ideal location. We would definitely stay there again.
