The Space

Guests can expect a warm welcome from Hilary, Alan and Henry (our Cocker Spaniel dog). We love meeting our guests and chatting over breakfast! Our adult sons have left home and so we are renting out their bedrooms- with their approval! Please see our other listing "King Size Bed in Family Home" for details of the second bedroom. NB If other guests are staying you would be sharing the bathroom. Please specify if you would prefer not to share.

We have a family home 1.5 miles north of Bath City Centre. The bus stops right opposite our house and it only takes about 10 minutes by bus or car or 30 minutes on foot to reach the City centre.

Hourly trains will take you to London in 90 minutes. Other easily accessible tourist attractions include Oxford, Stonehenge and the City of Bristol.

Although not far from Bath City Centre, we live in a very quiet location on the edge of lovely countryside with great views from the house and garden. There is free parking on the road outside- a real bonus in Bath, where parking is at a premium.

Our own bedroom and bathroom are situated on the second floor, and so the first floor of our house is for your use. A spacious double bedroom is available- with tea and coffee making facilities and a digital TV. The bedroom is quiet and comfortable with room to hang clothes.Free super fast Wi Fi is available. Also on this floor there is a bright clean private bathroom, with bath tub and a fantastic high-tech power shower .

Downstairs there is an open plan modern L shaped kitchen and dining room overlooking the terrace and garden with wonderful views of surrounding hills.

We provide guests with a nutritious breakfast including fruit juice, tea or coffee. Cereals and toast and fresh fruit will be on offer.

If you need to do laundry while you are travelling, this is available for an extra charge of £5 per load.

We live in a quiet neighbourhood near the top of the hill, with stunning views over to the famous Solsbury Hill and beyond. It is a 5- minute walk to our local convenience store and pub which has a good Indian restaurant and take away. Larkhall Village is half a mile away. There are beautiful walks nearby, including the Cotswold Way, and the Kennet and Avon Canal.

Bath itself is a World Heritage City with many tourist attractions- The Roman Baths, Thermae Bath Spa, Royal Crescent, The Circus, The Jane Austen Museum- to name but a few. Bath also has many fabulous restaurants and shops! Although we offer one-night stays, most people have commented that you need longer to appreciate all that Bath has to offer.

We have leaflets and maps on offer and we are always happy to answer any of your questions and help in any way we can.

Guest Access

Guests have access to their bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and garden.
Our bedroom and bathroom on 2nd floor is strictly off limits.

Interaction with Guests

We will welcome you, show you to your bedroom and then leave you in peace. However, we are happy to help with any suggestions on places to visit in Bath.
We like to chat over breakfast, but quite understand if you would rather eat on your own.

  • I've been at Alan and Hilary's home for 4 days and they make me feel like staying at home. We usually met for breakfast and dinner and we had nice talks. The area of Larkhall is very calm and it only takes 15 min by bus to go to city center. I suggest to visitors to buy a ticket for a whole week which is around 17 pounds and lets you move around the city with no limitation.

There are also great walks on Larkhall area by taking some paths outside the residential area.

    I firmly recommend it

  • Hilary and Alan were so incredibly welcoming. I highly recommend staying here! Hilary was so lovely to talk to and was such a sweetheart and Alan was very warm - and talented! We actually bought one of his beautiful vases from his pottery workshop. :-) Beautiful views from the window, filling breakfast, gorgeous doggy, open and light home, wonderful hosts. Next time we are in Bath, we will definitely be back to this warm and welcoming house! Thank you!

  • we spend 3 wonderful nights in Hilary`s house. the room is very comfortable and clean and there is a lovely garden. Hilary and her husband are very kind and polite. they make you very free in their house. the house is a little far from city center that will need 20 minis, but just front of the house, there is a bus stop, you can get to city center very easy. I think this (email hidden) for stay in bath.

  • We had a very lovely short stay with Hilary and Alan. The house is beautiful, the room comfortable and only a 25 minute walk into Bath. We really enjoyed meeting you and chatting over breakfast. I would recommend your cosy home to anyone who wants to stay in a family house which is close to Bath. We also really loved meeting your little dog Henry!

  • Hillary and Allan have a wonderful home together. Although sadly we did not have the opportunity to engage in long conversations, it is obvious that they are really hospitable people, and they are always ready to be helpful. I really appreciated the faithful description of the stay.Everything you read before getting there is purely and simply true, and that is to be applauded these days.

  • We had a very short and sweet visit with Hilary and Alan. Although it was short it was very pleasant getting to know Hilary and Alan over a delicious breakfast. Their house is very homey and comfortable and I would recommend staying there if you're visiting Bath.

  • Merry Christmas! Happy holidays Hilary&Alan and little Henry! Its been warm staying there, just what was needed for a start of our honeymoon in UK. The room/house is clean n tidy and the long garden at the back is nice, even better during the summer I bet. Would highly recommend for a stay definitely.

I live in Bath with my husband and our dog. Both our sons have left home and now live in London. We enjoy travel, reading, walking Henry, cinema and socialising with friends. We also enjoy hosting foreign students and generally love having people in our home. Alan is a keen potter and we have many of his pieces on show around the house. If it is a clear night, you might like to have a look through the telescope at the stars!
