1800's island boathouse on Casco Bay converted to a charming cottage. At high tide, the ocean surrounds the house on three sides; as the tide recedes, a sandy beach re-appears. Sunsets abound from the deck; seabirds entertain from the sky and beach. Walk, bike, boat or drive to spectacular views from every angle while exploring the island. There are three restaurants, a cafe, and a well stocked grocery store. A short 20 minute ferry ride to Portland, 'the foodiest small city in America', provides numerous dining, shopping, and entertainment options. On-island bike rentals are available at Brads Recycled Bike Shop. Maine Island Kayak, one of the top kayaking outfitters in the country, is headquartered on the island, providing instruction, trips, and kayak sales. Our mooring, located directly in front of the cottage, is available with rental.
Such an unbelievably amazing place. I want to come here again and again. Perfectly located with views of Portland and other islands. Amazing tides. Plenty of wine openers. This is the type of place everyone needs to stay at least once.
Two words sum up this place -- Dream House. It's right on the water, has everything you need, and we spent a lovely weekend listening to the waves, cooking with friends, reading, laughing, and just watching the tide come and go on Peaks Island.
The boathouse is absolutely charming. Wally and Carol have it set up so that you have every thing you need for comfort and fun. Staying here was the perfect way to celebrate my 30th birthday with my family who had never been to Maine before, and we definitely hope to be back. Wally and Carol are extremely responsive and made it easy for my family and myself to relax and have a great time!
Carol and Wally were extremely gracious and eager to answer any questions about the area. We absolutely LOVED our five day stay at the boathouse. The place is magical and I have never had such a relaxing, peaceful vacation in my life. We would definitely love to visit again and were missing the charming boathouse and lovely Peaks Island the morning we left.
We had a great time at the Boat House. Wally and Carol are gracious hosts. Everything was absolutely perfect. They did everything in there power to make the stay perfect. We had my parents and my Wife’s parents with us and it was easily the most relaxing vacation I have had in years. Watching the tide roll in and out is something you just have to see. The waves hitting the beach are the best sleep aid one can experience. I would love to say the experience was not good but I would be doing so only to make sure the boat house doesn't get booked up for next year. Thanks again Wally and Carol. All of us had a great time.

our stay at the boathouse was very calming & soothing for the entire family. what a warm and charming home to get away from it all and is very well equipped. we have 3 kids (18,14,12) and peaks island offered something for everyone. it was nice to be somewhere that the kids were safe to be on their own biking, hiking the trails or walking to town/market [to get yummy cinn. buns] which gave them a sense of independence. the people on the island are warm and friendly which added to our experience. portland is a short ferry ride to do exploring on foot easily with lots of shops and restaurants. i must say tho- by far the best part was just hanging out on the deck or beach. the sound of the ocean everyday is really something not to be missed or taken for granted. my 18 yr old daughter made a slip the other day by telling me she missed the boathouse from our trip. now thats impressive coming from someone who thinks vacations with her brothers is horrible...to me it speaks volumes. thank you wally and carol for allowing us to vacation in your home. we hope to do it again...and maybe meet you this time!!
sincerely, the boccarossa family
We had a great time at the boathouse. We enjoyed walking on the beach during low tide and being on the deck during high tide (plus they have a new grill). The boathouse is a special place. It's very well maintained and has beautiful details. You can see the water from most windows (I was tempted to see the high tide
very early in the morning from bed). It also has all you need: a complete kitchen, washing machine and dryer, a good size TV, clean towels and sheets, a good shower, etc. Carol and Wally left everything ready for us to have a bonfire on the beach. We also like the café near the ferry (especially the lemon turnovers, the croissants and the berry bagels). if you don't feel like cooking, we recommend the Pub at the Peaks Island Inn (nice place, good food and service). Thank you for everything Carol and Wally! We hope to come back again.
Staying at Peaks Island Boathouse was like an awaken dream. The hosts, Carol & Wally are more than welcoming and we felt right at home. We had fun with the bikes and the boats that they left for us to use. The beach is perfect for kids and for adults. Watching the tide go up while eating marshmallow was a must; building sand castle even before breakfast; discovering the other side of the Island (much easier than in the Lost serie :-)); eating local lobster and mussels; getting to know local people and watching horses pass by, in front of the sunset. What else to say... Ah yes! We WILL be back.
We met Wally and Carol when we just got off the boat... it was such a joy to meet them! Even though we talked for only a couple of minutes, it was obvious they are very special. Their house exceeded all expectations.
It was beautiful, special, wondrous and we hope we will be able to come back. The perfect place to meet our European family and show them the beauty of the coast!
We had a great stay at the Boathouse! The house was very clean & comfortable. The location was amazing. It was just a few minute walk to the ferry terminal. I can't wait to come back! Thank you Wally & Carol!!!
