Peaks Island Boathouse

House - Entire home/apt · City Point Rd, Peaks Island, ME 04108, United States

The Space

1800's island boathouse on Casco Bay converted to a charming cottage. At high tide, the ocean surrounds the house on three sides; as the tide recedes, a sandy beach re-appears. Sunsets abound from the deck; seabirds entertain from the sky and beach. Walk, bike, boat or drive to spectacular views from every angle while exploring the island. There are three restaurants, a cafe, and a well stocked grocery store. A short 20 minute ferry ride to Portland, 'the foodiest small city in America', provides numerous dining, shopping, and entertainment options. On-island bike rentals are available at Brads Recycled Bike Shop. Maine Island Kayak, one of the top kayaking outfitters in the country, is headquartered on the island, providing instruction, trips, and kayak sales. Our mooring, located directly in front of the cottage, is available with rental.

  • Carol & Wally's boathouse is absolutely beautiful. They have truly thought of each little thing their guests could want and/or need. We cooked out on the grill and enjoyed the seabreeze, and waking up in the master bedroom to the sounds and smells of the sea made it hard to leave. They even had a Ray Lamontagne CD that we played on the outdoor speakers! This place is so special, and we hope to make it back there soon. Rent bikes and ride along Peaks' coastline, then walk the trails through the conservation and visit the Cockeyed gull for drinks on your way back.

We stayed here for our honeymoon, and were so happy to be able to relax and enjoy being married.

    We loved every minute there!

  • You won't regret staying here. Rain or shine, the boathouse is the perfect retreat. We loved it and were charmed by Peaks Island.

  • Hands down, best vacation in a very long time.

This is just an amazing house with SUCH a killer view. Words cannot even begin to describe the beauty we enjoyed the 3 nights we stayed at the boathouse. EVERY meal we prepared was enjoyed at the picnic table on the deck.

There was 6 of us staying there (3 couples) and everyone was comfortable and enjoyed their time on the island. Anything and everything we needed [and then some] Carol and Wally had. Propane for the grill, speakers for the ipod, fans for the warm nights, extra blankets and towels, everything! A cookbook to prepare our steamers? They had one of those too!

    Wouldn't change a thing.

    Worth every penny :)

  • Hands down the best part of our trip to the east coast. This 140 year old house is so full of charm and character. Walking into the place, I could feel all my worries wash away.
We had everything we needed, a well equipped kitchen (and some basic food supplies too!) So nice to have a washer and dryer to catch up on travel laundry. Wally generously allowed us to take the kayak out in high tide, that was the highlight of my son's trip. The beds were super comfy. Biggest decision I had to make each day was whether or not to get out of the comfortable bed to go and sit on the deck to enjoy my morning cup of tea.
Can't say enough about this place. Wally and Carol were super

  • Such an unbelievably amazing place. I want to come here again and again. Perfectly located with views of Portland and other islands. Amazing tides. Plenty of wine openers. This is the type of place everyone needs to stay at least once.

  • Two words sum up this place -- Dream House. It's right on the water, has everything you need, and we spent a lovely weekend listening to the waves, cooking with friends, reading, laughing, and just watching the tide come and go on Peaks Island.

  • The boathouse is absolutely charming. Wally and Carol have it set up so that you have every thing you need for comfort and fun. Staying here was the perfect way to celebrate my 30th birthday with my family who had never been to Maine before, and we definitely hope to be back. Wally and Carol are extremely responsive and made it easy for my family and myself to relax and have a great time!

  • Carol and Wally were extremely gracious and eager to answer any questions about the area. We absolutely LOVED our five day stay at the boathouse. The place is magical and I have never had such a relaxing, peaceful vacation in my life. We would definitely love to visit again and were missing the charming boathouse and lovely Peaks Island the morning we left.
