The Space

a house with magificent views near Rocky Mountain National Park. Though there were floods in Colorado last year our home was untouched and the roads are fine. A wood stove plus electric heat adds to the charm. A fully equipped kitchen and 2 bathrooms. Available in the summer season from May through October. Close to a small town with coffee shop and cafe plus an art center with yoga classes and other activities.
We have a flat screen tv with a blue ray dvd player in the living room that connects to Netflix plus wi-fi throughout the house. No tv services but a large library of over 70 dvds of movies and tv shows .
Main bedroom has a queen size bed, 2nd bedroom has a queen size futon and the downstairs bedroom has a double bed plus a single bed. Main bath has soaking tub and shower, downstairs bath has a shower only.
Our home is on a 6 acre plot with a lot of privacy and animal trails throughout- expect to see elk and deer. We have a telescope to watch the stars at night.
Recreation includes an air hockey table, bird watching, hiking horseback riding and just relaxing and enjoying the mountain air and view. A Weber gas grill on the deck is available to cook outside.
Our house is mountain easy living style with original art throughout. There are aspen and evergreen trees throughout the property and ever present wildflowers. Just a 1 1/2 hour drive from Denver and 45 minutes from Boulder on good roads. Our road is a dirt dead end road. There is no cell phone service but we have a land line in the house you can use and good WiFi.. Some people get cell service by driving down to the highway, Rt 7- others need to go to Lily Lake or Lyons.

Guest Access

The whole house is yours. We live in Denver and have a support person locally in Allenspark if there are any problems.

The Neighborhood

Allenspark is the unspoilt alternative to Estes. No McDonalds just some locally owned cafes, a riding stable , a fresh water spring and a few shops. However the supermarket and hardware stores and other attractions in Estes are only 20 minutes away. You can walk to hiking trails from our cabin.

Getting around

We are 1 1/2 hours from Denver International airport.

Other Things to Note

Our cabin is located over 8000 feet above sea level so if you are coming from lower elevations please consider staying one night in Denver or Boulder ( 5280 ft) before coming to the cabin. Some people are affected by the altitude, others not at all. If you are pregnant or have health issues please consult your doctor. the best way to avoid an altitude headache or other issues is to drink lots of water and be careful with alcohol- one drink is equal to 2 at sea level.

  • Cabin was great. Perfect if your looking for something away from the busy downtown area of Estes Park. Its about a 20 min drive into town so if your planning to drive back and forth, allow for travel time. Very close access to Wild Basin Area with great hiking trails. On the map, it looks as though trails/road from the west side of the property link to Wild Basin hiking trails. If staying for the week, you can just plan to shop for enough food if you want avoid driving. Wi-Fi was great, as we could make phone calls through the internet when needed. Abundant wildlife, and great views from the deck.

  • Incredible location, one of the best views in Allenspark! Private and comfortable, this cabin really is a gem in the woods. Our party cooked every meal in the small but completely serviceable kitchen, and used the gas grill just about every night. No need for us to go out to eat at all! As others have mentioned, the wildlife is great around the property: deer, hummingbirds, chipmunks all around the outside of the house. The deck has a commanding view of the valley and mountains, a great place to just sit and relax. We'll definitely stay here again when we are in the area! Hosts were responsive and very accommodating, great to work with.

  • Wonderful cabin with hosts who really went out of their way to help us when we had travel hiccups. Views and privacy galore and such a quick trip to Estes or Lyons. However, the cabin was so wonderfully appointed with everything we needed going into town wasn't necessary. We saw deer and so many hummingbirds (not to mention the mountains) from the deck and enjoyed cool sunsets every night. This little place is perfect.

  • This cabin is really something special...it's nicely tucked away on the mountain and offers complete privacy. Don't expect design here, it's all very rustic and you can tell it is a weekend getaway or second home, but it has everything you need (including wifi..) and has a convenient location to explore RMNP. We would definitely go there again! The little community of Allenspark is something special, too,...and don't forget to have breakfast at the Meadow Mt.Cafe and fill your water bottles at the local spring. Mountain time...here we come..;-)

    Response from Katharine & Peter:

The reason we had to cancel for Katy was the Federal emergency declared in northern Colorado on Sept 12 due to extensive flooding. All roads leading to our cabin are currently under water or severely damaged. We expect ( and hope) everything will be back to normal by next summer season!

  • If you want a cabin off the beaten path (but not too far) with a great view and a reasonable price, this is the place for you. Make sure you are up at least once in the morning with a cup of coffee on the deck to watch the sunrise, beautiful! Kitchen has most everything you need, we had every evening meal there. Take advantage of the fireplace, when you think about where you are, makes for great ambiance. For us the location was perfect, close to some great hiking (highly recommend Chasm Lake, tough hike but the view of the East Face of Longs Peak is breath taking!). The trip down Highway 7 into Lyons is well worth it, that canyon gives the Big Thompson a run for its money! All in all, our experience at the Warren's cabin was great. We will be going back.

  • This mountain cabin is more than idyllic! The views are breathtaking and the cabin has everything you'll need for a relaxing stay. Katharine and Peter left us a delicious loaf of freshly baked bread and some toys for our son! So thoughtful! The location is close enough to RMNP to be convenient, but far enough to feel very secluded. We couldn't have been happier. My only reservation with staying here again would be that I am allergic to (email hidden)d while the owners don't have cats at the home all the time, they have taken their cats there in the past, and unfortunately, I could tell...making sleeping at night pretty uncomfortable. I should mention though, that the house was very clean, I just have bad allergies. :( If you don't have cat allergies though, I highly recommend staying here! We loved it!

  • We can't say enough about our stay in this wonderful house. The house was absolutely perfect for what we wanted--unbelievable views from the deck (including elk and shooting stars), quiet and away from city life, comfortable beds, clean, well equipped kitchen. Katherine was so helpful and available before we arrived (and throughout the visit with any questions we had). It is the best Airbnb stay we have had. Strongly recommend.

  • We enjoyed our time at the mountain cabin, it's a fantastic location with a nice view of the surrounding hills, close to the national park. It is a spacious loft in the moutains with all amenities in good order.
We felt very comfortable and at home. It is a place where we wished we could have had more time to spent! We would recommend it to all our friends.
It is also a 1 1/2 hr drive from the airport, so for us it was a perfect spot to spent the last 3 days of our holiday before returning home.

  • Great cabin with gorgeous views just outside Rocky Mountain National Park - what could be better? The deck overlooking the valley is an added bonus. Thanks Katharine and Peter for the wonderful vacation experience!

About
We bought this unfinished cabin in 1985 and have added to it and renovated extensively. It is an easy 1 1/2 hour drive from Denver and the airport but you will be in the high mountains- elevation over 8500 ft. It is close to many hiking trails with restaurants and horseback riding nearby. Shopping is in Estes Park, 20 minutes away with a full supermarket and lots of stores. Access to the spectacular Rocky Mountain National park with fly fishing and other activities. We are an artist and retired University professor who is now a photographer.
