We stayed at the Cesar Palace guest house for 12 nights and we had a comfortable and convenient stay. It is in the perfect location, close to the central station that takes you all through Rome. The neighborhood is filled with affordable and delicious food. The stay was comfortable and our room was charming with an adorable window view. The cleaning staff were so friendly and accommodating. Sarah was especially helpful and sweet. We felt that our hotel was the best deal for our trip because we got more than what we needed for the price. If your goal is to stay at a charming place while exploring rome without all the fancy hotel services that you might break the bank for, Cesar palace is your best bet!
I must say our first impression was not the best. Upon arrival, we were greeted with having to pay an extra 14 EUR for something we figure was some form of tourism tax --- our host (definitely not anyone we've had spoken to thus far) was unable to explain what that really was about. Then there was also the surprise that we would have to pay an extra 15 EUR for checking in late (I'm guilty of not having asked about this per e-mail beforehand, but I've seen other hosts who explicit this extra charge information on their ad).
This hostel is located in an old building with access to 2 good bus lines, as advertised, but it's a bit far from the Termini metro station (trust me: if you're going to Rome and you're using public transportation, you wanna be close to Termini). The building has an elevator that was out of order for pretty much all the time we stayed there. Not the hosts' fault, but still bad news for anyone who's not looking forward to walking up 5 floors.
The room itself is actually good, everything looks new and clean. They've provided us with clean towels and linens, which was a good surprise.
Overall, we had an okay stay. It was not bad, but I bet we can find a better deal next time.
