The Yosemite Sugar Pine Cottage was the perfect place for me and my group to get away. The property is quite secluded and quiet and surrounded by nature. The house itself was beautiful, spacious and home-y and was very well stocked with everything we needed. All the instructions were laid out and there were even some very useful maps and guides to hiking in Yosemite. The complimentary bottle of wine and the cupboard full of board games made for a very fun experience. The back deck was great for watching the stars, making s'mores and sitting back and relaxing. The pictures do not do the house and all its amenities justice. I highly recommend this place, you will definitely enjoy it!
We had a fantastic time at the Sugar Pine Cottage. As soon as we stepped out of the car, we were struck by how quiet it is around the cottage, making it the perfect place to get back to and relax after a long day of hiking in Yosemite. The house was incredibly spacious and the complimentary bottle of wine was a very nice touch. We will definitely be back.
A great place to stay near Gold county and about an hours drive from Yosemite.
This house is the perfect size for two families to share. I wish we visited while it was snowing.
The house has 4 rooms: 2 queens, a pair of twins, and one room with 2 sets of bunk beds.
The outdoor BBQ area was perfect for a sunset dinner and for making a couple smores!
We spent a lot of time hanging around the fireplace. The owners kept the wood restocked and brought over additional fire starters when I asked.
The nearest grocery store is also the nearest gas station. It had everything we needed (even skewers for smores). Be aware that it closes early (5:55pm) so buy your supplies before heading out to Yosemite.
One more note: there is no cell reception out here. You can find pockets of reception up until Modesto and down in Yosemite valley. Overall the hilly terrain will result in a rare 1 bar on occasion. If you are using Waze to navigate it will function, but missing an exit can result in rerouting to a worse route (because it can't calculate time off network).
Overall our family had a good time.
Laurie and Craig have a very cute house near Yosemite. It was homey, cozy and located somewhere in the middle of the woods (which we liked). GPS definitely got us confused so it was great that Laurie and Craig had given us instructions before hand. The roof leaked a little when the rain was really hard, but otherwise, we really liked how cozy the cottage was. We also sort of broke the board in the kitchen, unfortunately, with 14 people rushing in and out of the kitchen at the same time. I loved how they provided everything - sheets, towels, toiletries, utensils, even some ingredients. We didn't get to use the outdoors much either because of the rain, which was unfortunate, because the grill and bench outside was so adorable and would've made a great afternoon place to hang out in. But anyway, we had a lovely time, they gave us wine, which was really sweet and I apologize for calling so late when we arrived.
Sorry about the roof leak - that has only happened 2 other times in 10 years - it is not the roof; when rain comes from a certain angle it enters the roof vent. I'm also sorry about the water pressure - we are on a well and with the lack of rain for the past few years, it has affected the pressure.
The cottage was beautiful and had all the supplies we needed. There was plenty of spaces for parking 3 cars. The grill was in good working order. Overall a joy to have stayed here.
What a beautiful little cottage!
The pictures online does not do it justice, it looks much more beautiful in person. Although the cottage is at least a 40 minutes drive from Yosemite's check-in point, it doesn't feel like a long drive. There's a lot of beautiful scenery to look at while driving and the road there is very curvy so you need to drive slowly.
Laurie was extremely helpful and responsive to my emails and question which I truly appreciate. Also the driving directions that she provided were very useful!
There were so many things that I enjoyed about staying here that I will go ahead and list:
- Bowls, plates, cutleries, pots and pans are provided
- Great selection of DVDs to watch for some down time
- Well stocked toilet paper rolls
- Easy parking and very accessible to front door
- Well-stocked fire wood
- Close to Shell gas station (3.4miles on intersection of Greeley and Holtzel Rd)
Our stay was mostly a positive experience, however, there were a few drawbacks, such as:
- Slow internet connection speed
- No extra paper towels
Keep in mind, that we did not bring this up these drawbacks with Laurie while we were there, since we ended up not needing it so much.
We really enjoyed our stay here and if possible, we would definitely stay here again when we visit the area.
The cottage was perfect for a getaway! My family and I felt very at home. Laurie and Craig were very accommodating-- prior to our arrival, they e-mailed with several tips (i.e. where to grocery shop, get chains in case of snow, etc.) and they supplied us with other needs (extra toilet paper, dishes, toothpaste, etc.)
Although a bit of a drive away from Yosemite itself, the neighborhood was beautifully suited for a nice walk.
