We unintentionally arrived before the studio was ready and Karen met up with us so we could drop off our luggage. She was incredibly welcoming and friendly, and made us feel right at home. The studio is much nicer and bigger in person, and it's very clean. Almost everything you would think to need is there, from toiletries to kitchen stuff. Karen also left us some yummy cookies and chocolates, which was a really nice touch.
The view from the studio is really nice. The yard is kinda woodsy and makes you feel like you have a lot of privacy. It's really close to bus transportation and the airport, and the upstairs tenants are quiet and helpful.
This listing says no smoking allowed but we made the assumption that we were allowed to smoke outside. We found out after the first or second night that it was a no smoking *property*. No big deal, we just went for walks, just good to know if you're a smoker. Overall, we had a really nice time and Karen was an awesome host.
Karen was very quick to respond to my inquiries. If you are wanting to be close to the downtown area, the airport, Circuit of the Americas, then this is a great location. You are a quick drive from the interstate, yet in a nice quiet neighborhood. The property has it's own entrance so as not to disturb. Everything was as described.
I had a very good stay in Karen's studio!!! The studio is in Karen's house but totally independant, with his own path and entrance door ! It's like your own house. It's clean and the location is perfect, close to Downtown and there is a bus stop on Oltorf St (5mns by wall) ! Peaceful studio highly recommanded !! Thank you.
The Woodland Studio was, for the most part, an excellent experience. The location was idle, minutes away from downtown and South Congress. It was right by a bunch of great restaurants and shops. Some nights we were able to walk from downtown all the way home, though it was a bit of a trek. Karen was very helpful and left great detailed instructions for the studio. It was full of any amenities that you may need, clean, extremely well organized, and a lot more spacious then the photos led on.
The only minus to the place was the upstairs residents. During the afternoon hours they can get a little noisy. Just be aware that through out your stay you will hear them from time to time.
Besides that it was private, located in a beautiful safe neighborhood and had an idle location, I would recommend it.
I had a very pleasant stay at the studio. It has a nice atmosphere, is spacious including the direct connection and view to the garden, although a bit dark. The pictures in the listing does not give a good impression, it is much better!
The apartment was clean and has all you need for a comfortable stay, I was there 6 days for SXSW.
Karen was there for a warm welcome and gave some helpful tips for getting around in the neighbourhood.
I definitely would recommend this place for a Austin experience.
The apartment was clean, had all the furniture/cookware needed, and a huge backyard. Parking and commuting are easy from the location. The host is very friendly and leaves contact information readily available. My parents were thrilled with their stay and so glad they didn't go for a hotel. There were also snacks for guests, recycling, menus, and other information left out. Many restaurants and cafes are walkable. The neighborhood is safe and close to downtown. You really can't get a better deal or experience, highly recommended.
About the Host, Karen
I handle the reservations at the studio on the lower level of a house that belongs to a good friend of mine. I really enjoy this part of town, and it is great to be offering comfortable & homey lodging for people coming from around the world to experience Austin.
