Michelle made us feel quite welcome. We loved the papayas she brought over for us. The house is as described and pictured, a unit away from the main house and private. It was clean, light, well equipped and comfortable. The neighborhood is nice and quiet. The house is actually set back off of the street so there is no street view at all.
We would stay here again.
This place is perfect for a couple who want a non-tourist Kauai accommodation experience! My husband and I stayed with our two toddlers and it worked out great. It's a bit of a drive from the beach but it was really cool to be able to see a Kauai neighborhood, and the cottage is perfect spot to crash after a day of adventuring. The owners were very flexible on our arrival time and they live right next door so very convenient if you run into any issues.
Michelle and Tony's place was great! Very clean, convenient location. They were even thoughtful enough to have earplugs available for guests who aren't used to hearing roosters in the middle of the night! Would love to stay there longer on our next visit.
This cottage was so great! It was super roomy and comfortable! We loved how it felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. The roosters gave us lots of laughs...they were vocal but we loved it. Coming from NY it was a nice change to hear the nature and animals around us...instead of people.
Michelle and her daughter were so sweet and welcomed us with homemade muffins. Other than that we saw no one, it was very secluded there.
We were there during a rainstorm so we didn't get the chance to enjoy all the outdoor space...but we would have for sure had the weather changed. It was beautiful out there with various places to sit/lay and enjoy the sun and fresh air.
The house was great and in a quiet location not a far drive from many beaches. We loved the privacy, and would recommend staying here. We stayed 2 weeks.
The cottage is very cozy and lovely furnished! It is a good getaway to explore the hole island. Michelle, Tony and Mazy are a kind family and excellent hosts. We felt very welcome in the backyard of their property. By the way, the roosters were no problem at all for us. Just be prepared to share the place with tiny lizards ;-)
Our stay at Tony and Michelle's cottage was the perfect way to round out a magical trip to Kauai. From our first interaction over the phone I could tell how sweet they were, and we were blown away by their kindness, generosity, and graciousness when we finally met them in person. They gave us complete privacy, stopping by once to say hello and make sure we had what we needed.
The cottage itself was beautiful. It exceeded any expectation we had about how well-appointed, nicely laid out, and clean it was... especially how clean it was! With it's own private little front porch, cozy kitchen/living room, airy and light bedroom, and large bathroom, it was better than we possibly could have hoped for. It's close enough to town to have easy access to anything you might need; and just far enough away to feel like you're in the country, and to enjoy the magic of the mountainside. It was truly the perfect little place- we joked about how happy we would be to move in permanently!- and it will be our go-to the next time we're in Kauai.
As for the roosters that other reviewers mention - yes, there are roosters and chickens there. Yes, they are noisy little buggers. But that comes with being on the island of Kauai. They'll be around and loud no matter where you stay!
My husband and I had a wonderful experience at the cottage, and were very comfortable. Tony and Michelle were very friendly and helpful. They even had some freshly picked avocados from their yard waiting for us upon arrival. (They were delicious) Tony recommended beaches for snorkeling and shelling, both of which were right on. We also enjoyed hiking nearby. Tony and Michelle live on the property, and it seemed like one of them was home most of the time, so they were always available to help with anything.
The cottage is well maintained, well appointed, and very clean. It was great to have a quiet, isolated, comfortable place to return to after a day full of activities. There was nothing lacking in terms of amenities. We made our breakfasts in the cottage every morning (including island fruit smoothies with the blender) and found it very easy to cook two full blown meals here; the grill was wonderful to have use of.
They provide beach towels and allow use of beach gear (boogie boards, beach mats, snorkel gear, etc.). We utilized the snorkel gear down at Poipu (south shore), which was the highlight of our trip. (It was such a time and money saver not to have to rent fins, masks, etc.)
The cottage is located in the hills over Kapa'a in a suburban setting, and is convenient to many restaurants, shopping, and other conveniences in Kapa'a. The central location can mean running into bad traffic depending on the time of day if you're heading south. Nonetheless, it's very convenient to the east and north shores, as well as many inland hiking trails.
A note about the roosters: they are everywhere on the island, so no matter where you stay, expect plenty of cock-a-doodle-doos through the night. They seem to like to roost in mango trees, and there is one next to the cottage. If you're a light sleeper or sensitive to the noise, just get some ear plugs (a few dollars at the drug store or Walmart)...they do the trick. (We stayed at a cottage on the west side on this same trip, and had the same experience with the noisy island chickens.)
I highly recommend the cottage, and would stay here again!
The most lovely family, the most lovely place,,,
Very friendly hosts. Greeted us upon pulling in. Facility and neighborhood were big pluses. Supplied ample set of towels, snorkel gear, boogie boards etc (everything needed to head to the beach). Be sure to walk the surrounding streets, with great views of the mountains. Consider having earplugs on the nightstand for the resident rooster. Overall - a strong "recommend'.
