Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • We had high expectations before our arrival but our room was even better than the photographs. (We were even welcomed with soft relaxing music.) The furnishings were elegant and comfortable, the room had everything we could have wanted in it and more. The accommodations that were included in the price but were outside of the room, were amazing too. We took full advantage of the communal kitchen as well as the sauna. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxing. We had a delightful stay.

  • Loved their place and will be back soon!

  • This place was amazing. Beautiful, clean, and friendly. We went down for a long weekend and when arrived our room was ready for us, stocked with fire wood for the wood stove, a coffee maker ready for the morning, and san pellegrino in the fridge.

Shenendoah Park is a 15 minute drive, Charlottesville is about 20, but there is also lots to do on the grounds, even in the winter. We particularly enjoyed the sauna.

The shared kitchen is big, well stocked, and very convenient. We made breakfast there every morning.

We didn't get to meet David and Kumud, but David called us to invite us to a Carnival party at a nearby winery one night, and they seemed very available if needed.

We would highly recommend this place to anyone, but especially if you are looking for a little seclusion with easy access to plenty of activities. You can go hiking or into town during the day/evening and come back to a wood stove and Netflix at night and delicious coffee and a kitchen for the morning. We will definitely be going back.

  • When we pulled up late Friday evening, David and Kumud saw our car and dropped by to welcome us. When we stepped into our room, soft music was playing and the lights were on and low-lit. It all added up to such a warm, relaxing welcome! The room was gorgeous and thoughtfully appointed. And a king size bed! We loved having our own little kitchenette for privacy and morning coffee, and we had easy access to the communal kitchen's oven and stove. The communal kitchen, by the way, is downright inspiring; I wish I had brought some cookbooks and ingredients to make good use of all that counter space and the provided appliances. David and Kumud were in no way intrusive, but very friendly and responsive to our needs. The property feels nice and isolated, which is just what we wanted, though it did mean at least a 10-15 minute drive to get anywhere of interest. That said, there are many places of interest within a short driving distance. We had dinner in Charlottesville, visited Barboursville Winery, had lunch in Ruckersville, and went on multiple hikes in Shenandoah National Park. This is a great getaway for a couple, and, honestly, even more ideal for a group since David and Kumud can accommodate so many on their property. I'm trying to get some friends together to stay again over the summer. Definitely worth a visit!

  • We had a an AMAZING time at David and Kumar's Green Barn. The place was immaculate and they think of everything. The shared kitchen was wonderful, well-equipped, and makes for a nice social atmosphere with other guests staying on the property. The owners are so accommodating and friendly, and you can tell that they really care about their guests and making their stay memorable. Not a single complaint about our stay, just looking forward to coming back again!

  • We arrived on a Friday afternoon after traveling out of the city. We loved the location and how well our room was set up and had everything you could need.
When we walked up to our room at the white Lotus eco spa
retreat in the green barn and keyed in our code we were blown away at how lovely the rooms where. Our room had a wood stove, a kitchen, marble floors in the bathroom, a soaking jet tub, and was connected to a laundry room, which them was connected to a communal kitchen with every known kitchen tensil known to man. Great tables in ther to play word games, etc. the sauna was a great feature and a place to build a Bon fire to roast marshmellows or s'mores was an awesome area. They also had a fish pond with kayaks, and a picnic area. We were in Unit C and outside on our verandah was a ceiling fan, a grill, plenty of nice seating, etc. then upstairs was a mediation room, a massage room, and scores of chairs to look through the glass wall to see outside and the stars that shine nightly. Don't forget the reading nook recliner chair that you can see out all three sides of the nook and read while enjoying the views, night or day. Our Bed was a king bed and slept like a dream. I especially liked the meditation music that played in the room from a meditation machine that also carried pandora, or you could use you iPod.
We met David as he came to check on us after we arrived and he was a super nice guy with great ideas for what we could do or where to go. We did not meet Kamud as she was visiting family.
We will definetly be back as it is a wonderful retreat for US.

Met David and he was equally great and a gracious host. Will definitely be returning and cannot wait for my next stay. Also breweries and skiing options were pretty close and accessible from location. Plus wifi and Netflix. Cheers.

David Clark, a native of central Virginia, and architect of Green Barn has worked professionally as an electronic technician, D.J, photographer, chef, yoga instructor, builder, and heavy equipment operator, but he is best known as "The Chainsaw Comedian". For twenty-five years, David entertained around the world: taking flowers from ladies’ fingers with a sixteen-foot bullwhip, shooting balloons off men's heads from a unicycle, even juggling an egg, torch, and running chainsaw! His passion for nature, architecture, and global travel (36 countries and counting) fuels his current project: a self-sustaining retreat center in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains. In 1998, while traveling in Tamil Nadu, India, he met Kumud. Two years later, David invited her to co-direct a yoga-video production in Bollywood; a week into the project they decided to get married. While helping victims of the 2004 tsunami in Asia, they decided to establish International Community, an organization that creates local green businesses in order to help the underprivileged and often-forgotten people with whom we share the planet. Green Barn is a part of David's dream to share this area’s natural beauty and bring people from different walks of life together to learn, play, and grow. Kumud - I am a native of Coimbatore (India) where I spent a good part of my life growing up, schooling & teaching yoga. Stanardsville, VA although very different from my world in India, has become a wonderful haven and a place I am delighted to call home. Spent many years in customer service both here and in India, but now, mainly I spend my time teaching yoga at our church nearby. My other passions are dance, cooking and learning new languages. It has been fun exploring many different cuisines in this country which is such a melting pot of cultures. My joy of cooking has inspired me to teach some Indian vegetarian cooking classes as my schedule allows. Rural living has introduced me to cooking fresh from the garden, that I have learned to tend from David. We also love to travel, especially to warmer parts of the world over the cold winters here. We have created a urban suite with modern facilities amidst our beautiful quiet woods. We welcome you!.
